That's what I don't get. How the towns are always so goddamn small. You know Saffron City? They claim it's the "largest" city in all of Kanto and yet it only has 20 buildings and 30 or so people.
And speaking of buildings, have you guys noticed that almost all of the houses in the games only have one floor? Even the mansions! Doesn't anyone else find that a little weird?

Ash is a horrible trainer and a horrible protagonist. He loses half the time, and the other half of the time he just barely scrapes by a win with Pikachu on his very last legs. If Ash was even the least bit competent, I might be able to watch the anime. Besides the movies, which I enjoy and watch anyway.

Like I said before, if his Pokemon didn't evolve during every important match ever, he'd be so done right now.

Much like Ash's age, Pikachu's level regularly (at the end of each region) resets to a pre-determined level.
Wasn't there someone who analyzed every match Pikachu was ever in and estimated his level? You'd think that after 10 years it'd be at level 100, but I'm fairly certain it's still below 60.
Just got Platinum and HeartGold. Awww yeeeeaaaauh. Playing through Platinum first, about o fight my Rival (who i think is annoying as shit) exiting Eterna City to the south. Keep getting my ass beaten by his Monferno. Using a Grotle and the rest of my team sucks.
Can't wait to play through HeartGold, Gold was my favorite and my girlfriend got SoulSilver 'cause she never played Gen II so i'm really stoked to see her progress.
I like to think that some of the inspiring theme songs are being sung to Ash, rather than the songs being a representation of Ash's drive to succeed. Take "Unbeatable" for example:
"You can never win, but you sure can try!"
"Every move, each attack you choose; you think you can win but you always lose!"
"You think you'll win, but soon you'll see; You may be some, but you can't beat me!"
"You can try your best, this might be fun; you'll go down to defeat before you've begun!"

I like to pretend that some glorious jerk is sing this to Ash, mocking his consistent failures. Meanwhile, the game protagonists are off doing something awesome, like they rightly should be.

I always wonder how Red and Ash would interact if they somehow met.
If they introduce Ash's father AT ALL in the anime, then they should make him a much older and bearded Red, with a Raichu, some legendaries, and a Black Charizard.
They should end Ash's time in the anime with a final battle against his father.

Pretty sure the Manga came out after the game.
His team was probably based off Game Red's team.

Such as Red is considered the dominant game out of red/blue/yellow.
