Thing is, Digimon likes to strap on as many guns and swords and armor to their creatures as possible.

I was expecting a Pokemon Grey but the sequels really threw me off.

But with how much they changed out of the norm with B/W anyways, now I'm not surprised at all.
I look forward to see what they do.

Also the only reason I can see for not having it to be a 3DS release:
They'd have to code a new engine, make models for EVERY Pokemon plus towns, objects and characters, and take longer coding the whole 3D feature. So overall it would take much longer.
The game would probably end up being more expensive to make and/or produce
Compatibility between B/W, being DS games, and B2/W2 on 3DS, would be awkward, and you'd probably have to settle with a Poketransfer like thing instead of trading back and fourth. (Then again that might happen anyways... Who knows)

I've played(?) the Pokedex 3D game and they look like they have a graphics engine and Pokemon models already done. I don't see how it wouldn't be possible to chuck out a 3DS remake with those features in a year from now.

Yeah, they've only got the most recent generation done. None of the older ones. They'd still have several hundred others they'd need to do.
Not saying it's impossible, but it'd be a lot of work.

Porting and upscaling models from the Gamecude/Wii games shouldn't be too much work would it? At least it wouldn't take nearly as long as making 493 (plus formes) from scratch.

No, wouldn't be too hard, but I've noticed that the textures from the GC/Wii games are worse quality then those on the 3DS Pokedex (which is strange), so they might have to do a little refining.
