Either Nasty Plot or choice item'd.
Houndoom has no movepool, sadly. Teaching it Ghost or Poison moves is redundant as fuck, and then, it has fire moves, MAYBE Dark Pulse, and that's it for offense. Solar Beam if on a sun team, and lol Hidden Power. Physical movepool is a bit more varied, but suffers from a far lower firepower.

My Houndoom goes Flamethrower/Dark Pulse/HP Fighting/Nasty Plot; it works fine but getting said Hidden Power with an usable power is hard.
We need more special Fighting moves.

Colosseum was lovely for it's surprisingly grittier setting and story (in comparison)

I'm just looking at his moveset and it's a physical move with decent power.
After the first turn is done it's all too easy to switch in a flying/levitate/etc to negate any damage.
Unless you were tempting a switch for whatever reason.
