Newer generations have horrible art style, yes. And this is my opinion, but I know there are those who share it. The older generations were better (again, in my opinion) because they weren't so silly. Look at Black and Whites line up of Pokemon compared to the older stuff and anyone can see that someone was doing some dark deeds in the art room when they came up with these things.

The outlandishness and oddness just makes them flat cooler really. Hell, the 1st Gen starts to look... well... boring, in comparison. You can't say you ever gave a fuck about Tauros.
The new male protagonist's hairdo looks like a cut short palm tree.
Magikarp and Tauros are awesome, and you'd give a fuck about Tauros if you ever used it, motherfucker had crits all the time with Hyper Beam.
Nowadays it's a bit meh, but still easy and fun to use.

Persian learns Slash, and Jolteon doesn't IIRC.
In my opinion Gen II has the best pokemon, sadly it introduced the less number of pokemon of all the generations.
