It started after the game and company got popular with the kids and etcetera.
I registered for this game in 2001.
I lost the account yesterday.
I tried to log in with the password I had used ever since then, and it didn't work. I was able to log in a year or so ago, before all the updates.
I never gave the password to anyone, and was never hacked to my knowledge. No registered email, so I had to provide information to Jagex to prove I owned the account. Couldn't remember recovery questions. Couldn't remember account creation information from 2001 (the exact date it was created? are you serious Jagex?), and no longer had a receipt from 2004-2008 (sometime in there) where I bought a month of membership that would have proved I owned the account (even though I knew the last 4 digits of the credit card that was used to register, I still needed to provide a transaction ID and the exact date I bought the time).
I entered as much information as I could in the recovery form but it wasn't enough; I was sent an automated rejection and I'm now locked out of my account. I can't figure out how to get an actual human to resolve this problem for me and I'm getting sort of frustrated; anyone have any suggestions?
So it turns out this asshole who hacked my account is still playing after all these years.
I have no interest in returning to Runescape, but I wouldn't mind having my old account back.
Excellent. Been playing the combat beta for the past few hours and the performance issues that were present last week seem to be non-existent now.
It's so crazy how fast you level up though, but I really love it. I went to the iron/steel dragon lair to my surprise they're quite low level now. First time I just went in there to check what their weakness was (water spells), but even though I was on very low health, because I had put on armour but not eaten, I managed to kill a steel dragon without using any runes, just by building up my adrenaline, using metamorphosis and using the big damage boost from casting spells for free to quickly kill one.
And the levelling felt really fast compared to the live game. I got from 72 to 74 defence and 74 to 75 const in under an hour, which I'm pretty sure I couldn't do in the live game, at least not without getting bored (and also because you can train 100% defence XP with magic, which is awesome).
Oh and something else that's cool that was in the latest update for the combat beta, you can now press [ and ] to select/change targets, so you can target something without going into combat so that you can start with a stun or a charge instead. It's quite good but the way it chooses targets feels a bit random.

I think I prefer it this way. I just hit 80 defence but I'm never going to do this in live game because it's so boring and slow.

I had invisible items, random circles and items which had parts missing, and all of that got fixed.
Now I have the black squares around icons on the minimap again.
Directx mode is fucked.
If I leave a marker on the world map and then go back to the game, my settings drop to safe mode and I have to restart it.

It looks legit because it's from [email]noreply@runescape.com[/email], but I think Jagex use Jagex e-mails. Also the link inside the e-mail looks legit, but if you mouse over it, the it's actually linking to a phishing website with a similar URL. If Jagex had a problem with your account, you would either already be banned, or you could check your account status on the website which shows any marks you have on your account.

It's amazing how much weaknesses matter in PvE in the combat beta. I'm at Steel Dragons using their weakness and rangers and meleers keep walking in and trying to kill them. I can kill 3-5 steel dragons in the space it takes them to kill one, it's crazy.
I forgot to take pictures, but I got some dumb little kid pestering me to give him gold. So I told him the secret to getting millions if not billions easy. You run a powerful magnet over the hard drive. The more powerful the magnet, and the faster you run it over, the more money you get. I explained that it was because Jagex stores the runescape files that count your gold on the top layer of the hard drive, the magnet only effects this layer and modifies the gold count only.
He, just kinda, poof-ed after he had thanked me for the information and continued following me for a bit. I must use these powers for good, and... no, I think I'll just continue fucking with people that pester me.
