I don't really understand why skillers exist.
It's fun!* Not everyone likes doing combat related stuff all the time.
*Achieving higher levels in skills after putting in work is fun, not so much the actual grinding. Runescape grinding isn't even horribly awful until you get into the 90's.
Edit: more like, around 79 it starts to suck

Shortbow is the best in ranged.
Knives are even better.
Chinchompas are god.

You ruined it! Thanks, jerk!
Do we have that clan yet? I might just make a clan of my own.

What?

They're proper quick.

ps. there isn't a choice. Shortbow is better in almost any given situation. The only advantage the longbo has is a longer attack range, which is pretty useless.
Also crossbows are usually even better than either, since Jagex keeps buffing the crossbows and leaving the bows in the dust.
Got Aegis today, its pretty neat.
I have a question for you guys... is there still a way to get items from one account to another that you may have? Like drop trading?
Yeah, it works.
i can't wait till steadfast boots drop in value.
Have you guys heard about the planned combat update?
I have not. Inform me.

Just trade them.
20 - 50 rc in just under 3 1/2 hours f2p not bad.

This is from a thread on the Runescape forum (QFC: 16-17-742-63328955). I think this guy went to Runefest and this is basically some of what the mods told him.
They know that the combat triangle is currently broken and they want to rework a lot of items.
Jagex are going to release a way to easily find out how much DPS you should be doing.
In the current system, melee has two skills (attack and strength), while Magic and Ranged don't. There is some formula which apparently adds attack and strength for melee, but only multiples magic and ranged by 1.5. It's not clear what this is talking about in the thread, but it does say that no extra combat skills are going to be added.
ALL armour in the game will be rebalanced.
Any negative bonuses (like magic defence on melee armour) is going to be lowered even more.
Any positive bonuses will be boosted, especially melee defence on magic armour (in the thread, it said it's going to be represented as an "aura effect", like a magical shield that blocks melee attacks).
Attack bonuses on armour might be removed.
Since attack bonuses are going to be removed from armour, ranged weapons and magic weapons will be getting a large boost to their magic attack.
Apparently weapons are going to be balanced, since currently (as an example) everyone in F2P uses a scimitar, despite maces and battle axes having better strength and accuracy. So speed and bonuses are going to be balanced some how.
It's also being made so that the combat skill you train can be selected, so that you no longer have to use rubbish styles (eg. stabbing with a mace) to train a combat style. You select the type of attack you're doing, based on your weapon (crush/stab/slash) and the combat style (accurate, aggressive, defensive, controlled) seperately.
Damage soaking is likely to be removed, since it works weird and doesn't really do much.
As a replacement to damage soaking, every armour set will provide a life point boost. Every armour set. This is also going to allow for higher tier weapons (like Dharoks axe 2.0), along with balancing of lower tier weapons somehow.
Nex armour is going to give the highest life point boost in the game, so a player can expect with 99 const and full virtus to have about 4000 life points. This allows for higher tier weapons and the removal of one hitting and power play fights, based on who has the best weapon special.
There is going to be some high level ranged equipment and some adjusting of attack statistics and maybe ranged strength bonuses.
This is the stuff I'm looking forward to mainly:
-Magic level and Damage. Currently, the damage one does with Magic is based upon the spell, not the actual skill level, as is the case with Ranged and Melee. This will be changed, and the higher your Magic level, the more you will hit, as well as the higher your accuracy.
-Skilling spells and Combat spells. Comments were made about how Magic is split into two sections and it is a common sight to see somebody High Alching or Stringing Jewwllery in order to obtain a high-level combat spell. Though not too bad, this is something seen as strange in the gameplay sense and the encouragement of using combat magic at lower levels will be implemented.
-HOTBAR. Yes, finally we will see some nice Magic uses from the use of "F" keys (I presume it is F keys, but as they are used to swap screens, maybe a CTRL + number will be used). These will be short term spells, or possibly used for single casting a spell without having to visit the Magic Spellbook. I know there will be comments about this being "copied" from WoW, but face it, a HUUGE number of games use hotbars for all sorts of combat scenarios, and Jagex should not be flamed for using this simple technique.
-Rune-Holders. Rathe made a friendly comment about how "useless" the surgeboxes from Dungeoneering are, though they do provide more inventory spaces, one would much prefer to use an Arcane or Farseer shield, and whilst the Tome of Frost provides a nice Magic bonus, elemental staves are practically useless in combat situations.
Expect some nice things here
There is more stuff in the thread about monster rebalancing and making it so that you get more XP if you don't AFK train, among other things.
Something else brought up at Runefest was a love/hate suggestion of slower attacking with heavier armour. So people might forsake armour for faster attacking, or take heavy armour and an accurate weapon.

There is a lot in the thread, so I'd advise reading that instead.
Crapping my pants at Ranged being useful finally.
:swoon:
finally i can put my 92 ranged to good use!
finally i can put my 92 ranged to good use!
I can put my 84 ranged to no use, except for red chins whenever I decide to spend 50m on 99.
>shortbows are best

What?
Shortbows are the best bows.
This will pretty much break 1 defence pures
I think that is partly the point. I can't remember who but I think I've read a lot of mods saying that they don't like pures.
[editline]4th May 2012[/editline]
Actually just found an interview with Mod Chris L, most of the interview is about random stuff but near the end he touches on the combat overhaul and also mentions that because it's going to be such a game changer, there are going to be public testing servers for the first time.

Something that I suppose was sort of rumoured in that video as well, elemental spells would all have the same max hit (so Wind Surge and Fire Surge hit the same), but then there would be things like slightly higher damage if you use the right spell on the right enemy.
Maybe the different spells will have different effects like ancient magics, like the elemental spells used in the 4th fremennik saga.
It'll probably just be Pokemon-ish combat. Use Water Surge on Pyrefiends for extra damage, use Wind Surge to fuck up flying types. Fire Surge on Moss Giants to kill them for even faster exp oh god.
Shit the GE will go nuts.
I'm leveling my mining so I can mine pure essence. I suspect we'll see a sharp rise in pure essence prices once everyone realizes they have high levels to make runs with.

I officially have one million coins in my bank account!

I always say "I'll give you 300k as a test then 1m," so they double the 300k, and I just leave.

I never noticed how fun Dungeoneering is. I've been doing Dungeoneering for the past 2 days and gotten about 800K XP. Just got my SSH today :v: If anyone wants to go Dungeoneering my IGN is iBarbarian
