Also, the trailer for AC3:Liberation, starring a female assassin:

That trailer was amazing, and was it just me or was it implying at the end with the American General was a Templar too?

I think so. Most game faces aren't really readable, but he looked concerned.

Well, all the new moves and abilities look incredibly amazing. I also like how they replace the blade with the axe. Fighting looks really dynamic. Although the animations look a bit stiff and a bit to slow, also it still lack some blood. Hopefully they will fix that soon.
Also Connor really is a bulky guy, looks really neat to finally have different animations and moveset.

It is bothering me how they emphasized on you fighting both american and british templars, but in the videos you're just slaughtering red coats. The assassins are supposed to be fighting the templars, not picking sides based on which form of government is most correct. After all the assassins are obviously fine with monarchy or any other form of a single leader in power as long as they are not a templar or using a piece of eden, Ezio worked with the vicious Medici family and was also an advisor to the Pope, whose word at that time was law. Altair was fine with Al Mualim and Lionheart and the other rulers of the time. The assassins are supposed to be a neutral entity that in secret eliminate the templar threat of taking away freedom via the pieces of eden, after all even under a normal monarchy you have the freedom to choose. So why all the red coat slaughter, hell I am an American and even I didnt see him fighting any kind of non redcoat/american militia/french (dont forget they were there too).

maybe it's gonna be a plot change in the games story,
Like some of you already said the general looks more bothered with the victory than happy!
So it might change in the game...

I saw it more of a "damn, he's good. We could use him" face

In the E3 trailer he says: "They speak of liberty and justice. But for who?"
I think that's a bit of an inndicator that he's obviously not exactly taking sides. Native Americans play a LARGE part in the Revolutionary role as well and to them these European white folk are all strangers to them. So, I get the feeling he'll be playing the side that is more convenient for himself. I'm pretty sure the Assassin Creed has never truly been set in stone regarding outside powers and politics. Every generation of Assassin adapts to the ever evolving world around them. Like our current assassin, he's going to accomplish his goals as an Assassin, following their Creed, in a manner that is appropriate given the time and circumstances. Perhaps that means the revolutionaries seem to have a more relating goal thus he'll work "on their side" unofficially.
The look on the general's face at the end of the trailer is not only just of concern but also of "wow...where did this guy come from and how useful can he probably be for our cause? Is he for our cause?" The trailer shows that nobody even knows who the hell he is and he just comes in there and steals a horse and rides off to assassinate a Templar agent on the British lines. It's just a coincidence that it happens to work in the revolutionary's favor.
So relax. We don't know what else will happen in the story and I'm sure they won't reveal too much. We don't know what they have planned. I don't understand the stigma that people have against this game regarding our Assassin. It's not like he's being advertised as an American hero of the revolution or anything.
You notice that Washington almost looks displeased with the death of the Redcoat general. We already know that they are both Templars, staging the battles and wars to suite an outcome that meets their needs. At this point, we have not idea if Connor knows that some of the Colonial leaders are in cahoots with the Templars, so he's merely fighting who he thinks is the enemy. We'll probably end up discovering the staged war and defect to the Native Americans' side fighting against colonials and redcoats that are under Templar command.

The general is George Washington, if not, the appearance is uncanny. It's speculated highly that he's a Templar, so it's likely his face was more of "oh shit, he's messing up our plans."

Yeah he does look like George Washington and if he truly is going to turn out to be a Templar of sorts then you're right, he's probably thinking about what it might mean for his Templar plans when an assassin just took out another Templar agent.
I personally think Washington is a rogue Templar like Hitler. Gets a PoE and decides to change the course of history.

The developers have said that Connor will play to both sides of the conflict exploring the gray nature of the Templar Order in the process. However, like Jim_Riley said, Connor states that he is not particularly for any one side. You can bet that the game will play out in a similar fashion as the first Assassin's Creed wherein Altair killed both Richard The Lionheart's men as well as Sala ad-Din's, but were a part of the Templar Order in the end. Washington may be a Templar, but that does not necessarily mean Connor sees him as an enemy- but rather a convenient ally- to his personal cause for justice against tyranny.
And on the note of Ezio working for the Medici: in the first Assassin's Creed, it is stated that the Templar Order had rewritten history hiding the truth about the Assassins and whatever may hinder their cause. Thus, we get things like the Medici being benevolent, and Machiavelli and Leonardo Da Vinci as avid supporters to the Assassin's cause despite their historical counter-parts.

Hitler wasn't a rogue Templar.
I'm excited that there is another assassins creed game. It means the other AC games I haven't played yet will get cheaper
How the fuck have you not played the others? You are missing out.
On further thought I believe Washington is a templar, but I dont believe he is a rogue one, I believe the entire revolutionary war will be a plot by the templars.
Think about it, the assassins have already established themselves in Eurasia and have foiled the templars there, now they hear of a new land. What better way to get a position of ruling power if not to start a country and have it right at the beginning? By starting a war and then creating a new country, the templars no longer have to sneak their way up in the hierarchy of whatever society they were trying to gain control of, they could get direct access to the leader role. Here they could establish much more room to maneuver, such as creating an economy system based on competition, so they could say....have a large successful business to generate large amounts of income to fund their future plans...or maybe having the freedom of speech and other personal rights could allow them to gain information easily AND give them reasons to go on "scientific expeditions" to find "artifacts". To me, the entire war seems too convenient for the templars to gain power off something that focuses on freedom and privacy..which they could abuse.
well said
I'm hoping the naval aspect of the game isn't restricted to a single mission and you can sail around and do whatever on the high seas.
Piracy anyone?
Also in AC2 it shows Washington as a Templar so we can lay that whole "'murica is best" thing to rest.
but murica is best
native murica

Knowing Ubisoft, I doubt they would allow you to practise piracy in their game.
:v:
Holy fuck, the tree climbing moves are ridiculously awesome.
Although the fighting moves look a bit clunky.
I think it's due to the video's framerate. I don't recall it being that clunky in the other gameplay trailers.
Just love how he hangs a guard to the tree to distract the other one.
