Mojang didn't really deserve the win, but at least I respect them as developers. Valve I just fucking hate as of late, and I'm convinced they're the number two overrated developers in the world. (First, of course, being Mojang. Though I do like Minecraft.)

I sort of agree. I don't hate Valve but I'm indifferent to them right now. Portal 2 doesn't interest me, TF2 isn't fun anymore, we're still waiting on Ep3, and I find no replay value in any of their games(I try, but I get bored. They were mostly great the first playthrough though).
Don't get me wrong, Gabe and his team are really cool and nice people. Unlike Notch who is a complete bitch most of the time. I'd still vote Valve over Mojang any day.

It's unbelievable that anyone thinks Mojang is better than Valve, unless you're butthurt about episode 3 not being released yet, or you simply haven't played their games. I like minecraft, but Jesus.

Fanboyism isn't unnatural around there. To be honest, this is a contest that I hardly hear anything about in the first place, so I wouldn't say that I'm concerned.
Valve is out on the yearly company vacation to Hawaii, and Mojang have been kept up for two weeks making some wolves and unfinished achievement code.
I don't understand why you are all so shocked minecraft won. People like stuff that is recent, and it will always be at the foremost of the mind compared to something years ago. Minecraft is the current internet sensation, and is currently a very popular game among forum goers and the like. Valve, on the other hand, hasn't made to much recently, and thus their name isn't currently in the spot light.
It isn't about who is better right now, it is about who has the most temporary fame. But, beyond that, this competition proves nothing and no one should be fretting over it.

I don't see how Mojang is THAT good honestly. They have Minecraft, but I think Valve still has way better games. Don't get me wrong, I love Minecraft, but Valve would always get my vote in a popularity contest.

Voted for Mojang because they made a secret weapon capable of lowering COD's influence. Half-Life, TF2, and CSS can't seem to reach out console kiddies and get them to stop playing COD 24/7, but somehow Minecraft could.
Also the direction Valve has been going in recently has pushed me away from liking them. IE, Mann Co store, not focusing on Half-Life, acting like VAC is perfect and refusing to acknowledge it makes mistakes, putting advertisements in SRC engine 1 games, trying to force CS 1.6 players to buy CSS (see previous), fucking HL2 and EP1 with shitty ports to latest OB engine, fucking old mods (Like SMOD) with HL2's OB engine port, Left 4 Dead being quite literally left for dead, Left 4 DLC 2 coming out less than a year after Left 4 Dead 1 (Seriously even COD sequels have more time in between releases, hell, they even are in development longer), and a bunch of other bullshit that makes Valve in 2010 unrecognizable from Valve in 2006 in a way not too different from Youtube being extremely different in a bad way from what it used to be.

I didn't even vote but I agree, Mann Co. Store made me quit TF2. I liked it more when it was about mindless violence than 'hilarious' collectible hats. People blindly defending Valve need to realise they are clearly in the minority else Mojang wouldn't have won. Other people have different opinions, stop peddling yours as fact.
