I thought we never finished her? She just looks like the original enhanced with SSS on the screenshots to me. Plus we have not done the clothes on anybody yet.

Really? I thought it was water or something at first.

It's probably just a random post on the wrong thread.
Did another paintover

Original for comparison
Also did a quick sketch for an idea I had on how to make the citizen clothing more interesting, rather than just being a completely nondescript blue shirt and blue pants.
Talking about how we can do some atmospheric changes, I decided to start doing some paintovers as to how we can change the lighting and atmosphere.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/JiiQn.jpg[/t]
Tried to make it more like Viktor Antonov's other work. Thinkin about adding smoke coming from the smokestacks on the houses, some clouds and a sun entity around the citadel, ect ect.
Thoughts?
I like the way it looks, but it doesn't really mesh with the atmosphere of the game somehow. It's too overstated, I guess.
As for the metal struts or whatever, I don't think it would be too much of a performance hit as long as the models were really low-poly. Just enough to give them some depth.

Lol, those metal struts are ingame.
I'm talking about the ones on the brick wall texture. Either way, there's too much drop shadow/AO on the texture. I think that's making it noticeable that they're 2D.
Damn.
I want this out already.
The graphics looks so physically demanding.
Characters are done nicely.

Not bad, but I think it defeats the purpose. Citizens are supposed to look like prisoners, it's not meant to be fancy. Adding armbands like that makes him look like some sort of worker, rather than a prisoner.

I was going for the worker look since it is still technically supposed to be a society, and the citizens are technically workers (if they were prisoners they'd be in Nova Prospekt). I figured it wouldn't be beyond the Combine to slap their symbol on the citizens to remind them who runs the place.
It'd be more demoralizing to be wearing the symbol of your conquerors than completely nondescript clothing.

I thought the citizens didn't work, i was fairly certain they just sat around and got beaten all day. also they wouldn't be in nova prospekt if they were prisoners because nova prospekt isn't a prison, it used to be one.

Looking into it, it doesn't seem like it's ever really stated what citizens do. Though you'd think that if they weren't doing anything and the combine were only here for Earth's resources they'd just kill all the humans outright, or turn them all into soldiers against their will.
EDIT
Ah, here we go, from the Half Life Wiki
...the use of human teleporter technology and the enslavement and exploitation of its dominant species - the humans - for either menial work or military service...
So they do do work.

Well, there you go, another thing added to my "things I know about the half life universe" list.
With this in mind, I actually agree that the citizens outfit could use a little bit from revamping from the standard jump suit, not too much though, as they're pretty important to the atmosphere.
I disagree, this mod should be kept to improving the look of existing assets, not changing them.

It's pretty but it's too out of place and same thing with the blur, it may annoy the viewer after a while.
It would probably be better if we had a video in motion with the effect on (when you can make it of course).
Regarding the jumpsuits, I think the outfits aren't necessarily in need of change, but it could be a nice addition.
It's already been stated that one plan will be to give citizens additional variety, the armbands could occasionally pop up on them, but not all the time.
In 1984 there is a distinction between party members and non party members. Maybe you could take creative license with the canon and add something like that in?

But metrocops are basically "party members". I like the idea of a logo but keep it like prison clothing and not like a coverall.
What'd be cool if it can be done is random Citizen bodies
Instead of everyone having the same pristine, buttoned outfit, some could look a bit roughed up, some might have a few stains, a few buttons undone, more wrinkles, etc.
I'd imagine the refugees and rebels would have ALOT of variety, what with the fact they're not being forced to wear the same uniforms.
I'd imagine the refugees and rebels would have ALOT of variety, what with the fact they're not being forced to wear the same uniforms.
But most clothing that they'd find would be Very old and possibly less comfortable and initially less attractive. I can imagine a huge percentage of them would still wear citizen clothing with probably nearly all of them still wearing the trousers.
Not to say that i can't imagine any variety... even in the way refugees wear their citizen clothes. I can imagine a few rolling their sleeves up to their elbows or Not doing the buttons up.
Well, so long as i don't see refugees wearing brightly coloured T-shirts with band logos on i will probably be happy anyways.
There's plenty of variation to be done even with just the regular citizen outfits. Rolled sleeves, unbuttoned shirt, tucked in/not tucked in shirt, maybe wearing some dirty cargo pants or jeans they might have found somewhere instead of the trousers from the uniform. Maybe some kinda coat or jacket over the regular uniform.
I wouldn't go as far as adding other clothes, the Combine would probably have some kind of restriction on freedom of clothing
I wouldn't go as far as adding other clothes, the Combine would probably have some kind of restriction on freedom of clothing
It could work for the refugees though, instead of them just having the same clothes only dirt and ripped up, or that one weird white shirt.

Where would they get the other clothes from?
It's not hard to imagine the Resistance has clothing supplies that include stuff that aren't the citizen uniforms. It's not gonna be fancy suits or dresses, yeah, but it'd probably be stuff that's durable and long lasting.
