Here's my progress on the Metrocop so far: [t]http://imageshack.us/a/img805/6375/metrocopenhanced.jpg[/t] [t]http://imageshack.us/a/img708/6648/metrocopenhanced2.jpg[/t] [t]http://imageshack.us/a/img341/8973/metrocopenhanced3.jpg[/t] [t]http://imageshack.us/a/img521/9647/metrocopenhanced4.jpg[/t] [t]http://imageshack.us/a/img203/2153/metrocopenhanced5.jpg[/t] As you can see rather than hitting 'Turbosmooth' I've accentuated certain details that relied on texture work and boosted them into the 3d world. I've also exaggerated some seams that I felt needed it. The folds on the back of his head look a bit kooky in these screens and I've since cleaned that up a bit. The next stages will be to make further adjustments and then re-uv it onto a bigger texture map.
you'll probably want to sculpt clothing folds on that
you'll probably want to sculpt clothing folds on that
Will be doing, in ol' Mudbox.
I can see the added detail, But a lot of it is still visibly low polly.
Thing is, it doesn't need to be high poly for it to look good. I'm also thinking in terms of game optimisation here when we see a fair few of them on screen during the canals chapters.

Just high enough to smooth out the many sharp edges on the models, which have quite a few. Like the quality I'd love is something similar to L4D, or CS:GO, those had fairly high poly-count yet ran smoothly.
I must admit, having worked in the source engine for this long it's very hard (at least for me) to get out of this rut of optimising my models for a 2004 game.
Those details can be baked to a normal map. The current model is good for a base model to then put those normal maps onto. He already said he was going to sculpt detail in mudbox so one can make the assumption that he will be baking other details also. Higher poly != more detail. Halo1 spartan had higher poly than halo2 spartan
Snood's already working off that concept since about 6 hours ago.
Am I the only one who thinks those bulky combine look kinda goofy?
It kind of reminds me of this.
Small update, I finished 4 more brick textures, fixed up Kleiner's chin area a bit (not so much as to warrant new pictures), and started work on my Alyx Vance v3. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/daren.jpg[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/RcGbP.jpg[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/5ZurV.jpg[/img_thumb] Note that I only did the cheeks/sides of the face and the lips (the rest it the default VALVe texture), I still have to refine it more.
Good improvement, though it looks like she has small burn scars all over face, all those small white dots. perhaps thats just the original valve texture that shines through
I really did like the hair you were doing, it just needed to be more black.
Good improvement, though it looks like she has small burn scars all over face, all those small white dots. perhaps thats just the original valve texture that shines through
Mind pointing out the 'small white dots'? I frankly don't see them, other than on the nose and forehead which I haven't done yet.
I feel that the area around alyx's eyes are a little shiny, if it could be decreased a little bit it might look better.
WIP Alyx update. I've now done everything on her face except for her forehead- what do you guys think? [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/1a49w.jpg[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/03bJO.jpg[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/jRVdR.jpg[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/0parE.jpg[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/FPAJ3.jpg[/img_thumb] [editline]2013[/editline] Her face still seems a bit low quality compared to the others I've made, I'm hoping I can fix that, but it's just really, really hard to get Alyx to look right...
I feel like the headband is what makes it seem lower quality. Most of the face looks good but the cracks in the headband still kinda look blurry like the HL2 texture That, and maybe those light spots around her forehead could be a bit smaller, though I stress the maybe

Woops I guess that's what I get for not having gotten any sleep last night
Also it feels like maybe you could add a bit of subtle freckling on her cheeks. You can kinda see it in this picture.

Alyx Update! I think I've more-or-less finished her face! Unless of course I missed something, or did something wrong... Now I just have to do her hair! Great progress. Somehow the original alyx face looks more elongated. strange. Your texture is starting to be preferrable to the older one.
Great progress. Somehow the original alyx face looks more elongated. strange. Your texture is starting to be preferrable to the older one.
Thank you! I think the reason why it looks elongated is because the pic there is of the original Alyx model, and I'm using the EP1-EP2 version, which fixes up Alyx's head, and makes the jaw more rounded.
And for comparison: [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/NrLH4.jpg[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://nightmaremode.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Alyx-Vance.jpg[/img_thumb]
you airbrushed her skin again
you airbrushed her skin again
Nope, I didn't. [editline]2013[/editline] Please do not just look at thumbnails.
I'm still not winning any popularity contests, but i preferred the old alyx. She looked more human. It also looks like you've made her less Asian.
It does seem like her original skin tone is slightly more greyish and weathered than yours. At least, judging from those pictures.
It also looks like you've made her less Asian.
I'd rather have a blonde white Alyx with big breasts. :v:
It does seem like her original skin tone is slightly more greyish and weathered than yours. At least, judging from those pictures.
It's a little hard to tell, but the main reason why, is the pics are from our mod, which has slightly different lighting than the original HL2, making it look different that way, on texture, it's more or less the same color.
