The Xen sample in the test chamber wasn't actually from Xen, it was actually just some of Kleiner's incredibly potent crystal meth. It was so strong it tore apart time and space.

Barney

In-game pics:
Barney
One thing I noticed Barney is currently missing is that stray single hair that goes down the middle of his forehead, somewhat small detail but he looks kind of different without it.
Yeah, I was gonna mention that earlier when I noticed it, but it's a minor detail so I didn't bother.
I'm wondering if after the stage of texture development and modelling, and to the stage of coding and additions, if dynamic RTT shadow angles will be used for areas where there are no dynamic lighting, so shadows aren't facing the wrong way.

Wow, is that where his nostrils show up on the original texture?
Just had a look in the model viewer myself, jesus christ. v:v:v Maybe there's an acceptable middle point, something that allows his nose to still look kinda narrow.

I believe the RTT shadow angles has been already fixed in the mod.

Yeah, just tested: they're fixed.
That's Fakefactory's definition of "HD" aka "let's add as much dirt and small repetitive patterns as we can".
Please be careful with the souce material.
It's interesting as I actually didn't add any extra dirt to the texture, I only darkened levels to accentuate detail. Though I take your point about the repetitive patterns.
Thanks for the feedback so far guys, I don't want to run this mod into the ground with Fakefactory-like reproductions so knowing where I'm failing or succeeding is extremely important to me.
Part of me wants the ak-47 from the beta/leak re-added since its one of the most durable and common weapons in the world, that and it can have an grenade launcher attached to it unlike the the combine standard issue mp7(which would not support a grenade launcher in real life) anyhoo why not? make sense that the resistance use the ak since they would use what they could find.

It'd be significantly easier just to ambush some CP's and steal their SMG's rather than banking on finding an old stockpile that's both big enough to arm the whole resistance, but small enough that the Combine wouldn't have noticed it before. Plus all the Resistance members are clearly wearing body armor taken from Metrocops, so either way they've already been stealing and modifying Combine tech for quite some time.

If it is added, it has to be heavily modified from both the combine and the rebels.

Didn't say make every resistance member use it, just a few like i said they use what they can find so there is going to be different resistance members walking around with different guns.

No just leave the combine with their standard issue, they never used it in the leak/beta.
Civil Protection vests could be similar to the HEV Suit/PCV albeit with much less protection. Would explain why they have chargers everywhere.
While i'm thinking about it why don't some rebels take transhuman combine's armour as well?
They're working on that.
I don't think the ak would fit half life's art style (like the pre war army helmet) Story wise it fits, but i just don't see it looking nice.
The modeler dude is working on bodygroups for just that purpose actually. Look around 10 pages back (?)

I'd guess it's a Big Daddy kinda deal, where the suit is permanently fused to the wearer's body
I'd guess it's a Big Daddy kinda deal, where the suit is permanently fused to the wearer's body
If you look on the sides of Combine soldiers you'll notice the chest armour is completely removable. It has straps on one side of the body and can be taken off.
To put it on one simply places their head through the collar while sliding their arm out of the right arm hole. Then they would pull it snugly around their body and fasten the straps with their other arm being in the left arm hole.

So what kind of new effects are we gonna see here? I know you're using the Alien Swarm engine, but is this with Biohazard's deferred renderer?
Will cascaded shadow mapping be supported?
Is proper per-pixel motion blur possible? I'm sick of Source's default camera based bullshit :T
I think rebels with AK-47's could work, just make them rare and unobtainable, being in the hands of only a rare few, and in areas the player cannot reach. You could also just make it so that the weapon doesn't drop on death of the user (pretty sure there's a flag for that).
I say keep them unobtainable because ammo would be too scarce, so it'd have limited use. Plus, functionally, it'd probably just end up being a rebel AR2, without the alt fire. So it's not much good to the player anyway, mostly what it'd do is take up a weapons slot.

This is pretty much how I was thinking the best implementation of the weapon would be, although make it obtainable to the player, only in a super secret and ultra contrived easter egg. and also make it useless next to all the other guns.
Yeeh

If that's all you'd have the AK-47 for, what's the point of even having it???
One thing I'd like to see: I more high-tech-ish looking Revolver. Or a replacement for it. I mean, you find it in an are controlled by Combine afterall.
[editline]26th January 2013[/editline]
Wait, then again, the area was once controlled by humans, so a Revolver makes sense.
