One request in regards to changing game play.
Could you make it so that barnacles disorient the player and lift you in an inconsistent pace? id imagine that if one grabbed you by the leg you'd be up foot first. potentialy when you land you bob quite heavily to show that you may have landed on your arse.
it'd just be more interesting than
"oh, iv been grabbed by a barnacle*
*looks straight up*
*waits for the perfect time to strike*
*kills barnacle with shotgun, falls down, continues on.
It'd be much more interesting if you had to work out which way is up,pick your weapon, line up your shot against the barnacle with your view ever-moving, then after you kill the beast you need to orient yourself so that your fall is good.
They pick you up by the neck.

That lighting method you posted a video of does not work with the deferred path. And you wouldn't want it anyways since Bio wrote a [I]proper[/I] CSM system in the deferred mod.
I'm not working on this mod. But I highly doubt they are going over to the deferred path Bio developed. Last I checked it does not have quite a few important shaders. And the way mappers do the lighting pass would change drastically, meaning all their Source-lighting experience would be rendered worthless. And the current dlight/elight(muzzleflashes,explosions,etc.) system would have to be redone to use the deferred lights.
The deferred path is also many times more expensive than the current lightmapping system. Currently the many compiled lights used to light up a scene cost absolutely nothing(if they don't change state). Where as with the deferred path, every light costs something. And the more a light covers, the more it costs. The real reason to use the deferred path, is if you got [I]lots [/I]of dynamic lights.

Why do you use the shotgun to kill barnacles? That's over-kill, just use your crowbar, it saves ammo.
I misread The Jack's post as a request to make barnacles fall off of the ceiling when you kill them.

Those folds don't really make a whole lot of sense. They're all very flat and uniform, and don't take much consideration into how clothing works, like you were just randomly painting indents in ZBrush. You also really need add some variation in the model, to give the folds some silhouette, rather than just leaving all the limbs as flat tubes. The crotch area also looks totally messed up, you've got some smoothing errors happening, and it's super blocky.

Yeah the wrinkles are all wrong, you could of just added those folds into the normal map and not have needed to sculpt them.

Which is the easiest way to add folds into a models normalmaps.
i'v never had an issue with shotgun ammo. i do use the crowbar, but sometimes i just can't be bothered to wait to get up, or don't want to be pulled up because of the fall. Half life 2 isn't a difficult game even on hard
I over-horde 357 and crossbow ammo though.
speaking of crowbar make sure to redo the default animations, they're horrible :v:

Personally, I rarely seem to crowbar those things without taking at least some damage. Plus the fall isn't that great too.
Though admitedly I'm more likely to use a pistol on them than a shotgun. Depends on how I'm feeling.

I appreciate the constructive criticism, cloth folds are something I really want to get right with these 'enhanced' models and finding the right technique to achieving them is something I've been working to find. Thanks for the ref pics and the tips, they've really helped.

What you're seeing is an altered base mesh with a normalmap baked from a high poly sculpt in Mudbox.
citizen clothing doesn't really look like it would fold much.
I always assumed citizen clothing was just jeans, a cloth undershirt, and a denim jacket.

Be sure to look up some tutorials on sculpting folds, as well as grabbing a bunch of reference photos.

Since im in the mood for making silly requests: could you also maybe make the crowbar slower but more powerful with the ability to stun combine soldiers? It always felt silly fighting combine with the crowbar, he'd flinch slightly whilst he shoots you until he dies. .
