Quick time events for everything. Hit a soldier with a crowbar -> quick time event, ant lion pounce -> quick time, step off train -> quick time, pick up that can -> quick time
And port it to xbox

You can sum up every game like "press X to not lose", what's the point

qtes are dum
This might be a difficult request to do, but is it possible to make the enemies more dangerous. I hate how predictable the enemies in HL2 are. Hit a zombie twice with a crowbar, give him space to counter attack and then finish him off. Or get close enough to a metro cop and his gun clips through you and he can no longer shoot you. Maybe just a simple fix, like the combine with guns run backwards away from you while firing. Or the zombies sometime attack you a lot sooner and end up taking you by surprise. Just so that the battles are more exciting and dynamic. But I have no idea how difficult it is to change these things, so don't worry if it can't be done.
A slight variation in damage output for every shot/swing would make things a bit more challenging.

I can't give up on this thread yet! I haven't even seen all this cool shit put together for gameplay.

Not every game should be god damn Dragon's Lair.
I remember when QTEs were a fun novelty. I'm still just a kid and the industry have been introducing so much stupid bullshit trends into games that even my not-even-20-year-old ass is looking back. That's not a good sign.
i think God of War I did QTEs best because it was like MASH X TO FUCKING TEAR THIS GUYS EYEBALL OUT AND SMACK HIM WITH IT
[editline]3rd February 2013[/editline]
in fact that whole game was just mashing buttons
I had an idea that I think would add a bit to this mod.
Everywhere gordon goes, there's suit chargers. We never see combine or anyone else using them though.
Why not make a couple combine have an animation to charging something when gordon shows up?

I remember God of War was the first game I ever saw with QTE's. It was in the demo, during the giant water snake boss fight. I had absolutely no idea what to do, and couldn't react fast enough, because the idea of not directly controlling the game and being told to hit an arbitrary button was so foreign to me.

It's kind of hard to implement things like that within normal gameplay. If they didn't do that, they would just have to take the whole user interaction out of it.

There was this mod I played back in the day that reminds me of Day Hard. A combine soldier juiced his suit up from a wall charger and got drunk after some cops laced it with vodka. You then proceeded to have intense melee combat with a bunch of drunken wobbling zombines without the headcrabs.

You remember the mods name?
Judging by the progress on textures for Barney and the like, I'm horrified at the thought of what charples will look like.

I want those guys to look fucking grousome. I'm talking textures ripped straight from pictures taken at crime scenes, car crashes, and war zones. I want them to be fucked up to the point where posting WIP pictures on this forum would be a bannable offense.
Same with all the stock corpses.

I call not doing it.
I'll take some pictures of some beef jerky, then add a face- boom! :v:

Don't even add a face. Just a mouth hole.

I could sort of deconstruct the HD citizen and make 'gibs' out of it. Strip away the clothing to reveal burnt flesh etc. We could also make use of the bloody rebel skins from episode 2 as well, albeit better quality.
y'know i would like to see more destructable objects and environments in hl2
Only in areas where rocket launchers are though, otherwise it would be pointless.

Perhaps breakable doors like Left 4 Dead 2? Or would that be pointless?
Perhaps breakable doors like Left 4 Dead 2? Or would that be pointless?
In some areas it can be used for cover - shoot a hole through the wall and kill anything and anyone that's behind it.
A good addition to Half-Life 2 would be the dynamic ability to load new maps during gameplay - begin loading and setting up the next game level so that no "loading" screens appear. However, this would require some knowledge of the engine and probably crap up gameplay on lower-end computers.

it would require editing the source code
Alien Swarm already can handle level changes fast enough IMO.
BTW X already bind'd to this:

yes
Why do you use the shotgun to kill barnacles? That's over-kill, just use your crowbar, it saves ammo.
I personally use the pistol as if you swing too early with the crowbar it can still get some chomps on you.
I personally use the pistol as if you swing too early with the crowbar it can still get some chomps on you.
Are we talking about HL1 or HL2 here? In HL2 Gordon swings his crowbar at about 60 mph, with less than a second in between his swings. Unless you were really inept you wouldn't get chomped by a barnacle when using the crowbar. Though if it would take you too high up in the air, then I use a pistol, or the SMG as that seems to almost have the most ammo in the game.
