still desperately needs a hint of light from those slits in the diffuse.
Phongmask and VMT values are a WIP at the moment.
I think the metal should look more...old. I mean the vanila gravity gun looks like it's had some heavy use and this one looks brand new.
-wow, snip!- I'm late to the party on that one.
Damn it, that looks awesome, AR2, xbow or bugbait next!
Damn it, that looks awesome, AR2, xbow or bugbait next!
I wanna do the AR2 next 'cause the world model for that looks all around poop.
Oh please do that please. Fix the diffuse on the Ggun tho first come on.
Make it awesome and have the reload make sense instead of what we have now.
Also for the love of god don't touch the extended barrel on the Ggun. It looks so fucking cool right now and I actually feel like I've been robbed by Valve, for this amazing alternate design has been hidden under my nose this whole time.
I hope one day I'll be as good you are in 3D.
you're already in 3d
Ok, well, as said on the last thread, the Vortigaunts are going to be a artistic hybrid between the HL2/EP2 vorts, and the Half-Life 1 vorts. http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1216721&page=24 So I've begun sketching a design, I'm starting with the head. So here's version #1: -quick colored version What are your thought and ideas on how the Vortigaunt should look? What do you think of the first head sketch? What would you change about it?
I actually think since this is Half Life 2, the eye should be a bit smaller. I know it's not consistent, but we all know the huge eye in the center was just there to make headshots feasible on low late 90s resolutions. The thing is, the huge eye in the middle is a sign of inferiority imo. They're important individuals with a place in the universe and a say in its fate, but they still have bullet fodder design. Plus it looks really uncharacteristically cartoony. I'm not saying to shrink the center eye to human size or something like that, but maybe if the actual socket was the size of the iris you have shown here.

Remove that and it looks a lot less like a Vortigaunt. I also don't think they originated from a planet where people would be shooting them in the eye with bullets, and if they did, they'd still have their 3 other (or 5 other if it's like HL1 and my concept) eyes.
Muh fuh I didn't say remove it, I just suggested maybe tone it down.
Muh fuh I didn't say remove it, I just suggested maybe tone it down.
I don't mean remove it as in take it out, I mean remove it being that big, it just wouldn't look like a vort any more.
I wanna do the AR2 next 'cause the world model for that looks all around poop.
Make it sexy like this: [t]http://images4.fanpop.com/image/photos/14700000/combine-images-combine-overwatch-14723441-1024-1108.jpg[/t]
-snippity snip- Depth of Field with a low quality shader, and a not-working-well auto-focus system.
why does the L4D engine onwards have a weird halo around the first person weapon? Its something that's bugged me for ages.
Make it awesome and have the reload make sense instead of what we have now.
The reload currently makes sense.

HL1's was designed to look evil and scary because that's how enemies were expected to be at the time. By HL2 not only has that changed, but they are also allies. I would say either a HL2 style skin, EP2 style skin, or a mix of both (different vortigaunt races?).
Muh fuh I didn't say remove it, I just suggested maybe tone it down.
See how it looks a lot less like a Vortigaunt now? I mean the EP2 ones look morel like frog-people-things than aliens. So with mine I'm trying to bring back the alien look, while still keeping it HL2/EP2 reminiscent.
also improve the combine a.i. they need to be much much much much more smarter in this mod
The vorts should lean towards HL1 if you ask me, yes they would've adapted somewhat in the 20 years but looking at the HL1 vorts and HL2 the change is just daunting when you look at how body structure and skin color changed, it never ceased to bug me that the vorts lost a digit and their skin color changed too.. They were very heavy on their "chest" and that got ditched for a more smooth lean form. It's interesting that the dreamcast vort looks closest to the HL2 vorts.
also improve the combine a.i. they need to be much much much much more smarter in this mod
A.I. is dramatically improved through use of Alien Swarm (I know, I've played the mod). I'm sure they're gonna tweak it somehow.
why does the L4D engine onwards have a weird halo around the first person weapon? Its something that's bugged me for ages.
I'm assuming it's an unsharp mask thing.
Some quick ingame shots: [t]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/919003549354217006/6E87395D31AE2FFAD49C340DD615F78CEFE6F316/[/t] [t]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/919003549354214025/016DA0E051E051F97D7F05986AA01FD4748720CA/[/t] (click for bigger size)
that looks great, but, i liked the dirty grimy look the original had, it looks too clean, and the phong makes it look like plastic but i understand it's WIP
New gravity gun's looking pretty nice. How's the progress on the other weapon models?
What ever happened to that crowbar that someone was working on? It was from the V1 thread. It got textured and everything.
What ever happened to that crowbar that someone was working on? It was from the V1 thread. It got textured and everything.
i think it looked pretty ugly
What ever happened to that crowbar that someone was working on? It was from the V1 thread. It got textured and everything.
The one Zero Hour was working on? He still has it, as far as I know he still wants to stay on the team, but he's working on Black Mesa: Insecurity first. [editline]20th February 2013[/editline]
I'm assuming it's an unsharp mask thing.
The halos happen around every single model, at least on the Alien Swarm engine it does. I don't think that's just an unsharp mask
