The muzzleflash gets lost a bit in the low framerate (damn fraps) but the fire and explosions still show up fine.

So because this guy wants to have a cross between hl2 and hl1 vortigaunts that means he's going to completely turn the mod around and become Fakefactory?

Eh I was really seeing what was available.
But since it seems that character modelling is apparently the only thing open I really don't have much to do.

There's openings for everything. Sound design, mapping, coding, skinning.
It's not like we're ONLY looking for someone to do character modeling. The more help we have the quicker the mod gets done.
If you guys need anything multimedia like an intro clip to go with the Valve one, I'd be glad to try to put something together. But I assume that would have to wait until later, wouldn't it?
I think some of the sounds could use an upgrade too.
Oh, and I'm slowly retexturing the doors. I have the first skin done so far, and Corgi liked it. Basically I'm learning how to texture and if Corgi likes it he'll use it. I'll see if I can get some shots of the door tomorrow.
New footstep sounds could go a long way

Late, but I actually kinda liked the shotgun fire and AR2 alt-fire sounds. They make the weapons feel heavier.

I think it's theoretically possible, but if you're doing animations for swimming I don't think you'd be able to use your gun at the same time as playing the animations, so that would require redesigning large sections of the game to accommodate for a fairly minor detail. It's a neat idea for like, Garry's Mod or something though, and maybe it could be a little optional tag if you want to make the underwater sections a million times more difficult.
If you were going to go as far as recoding shit to allow underwater animations, you could always have a one handed swimming animation, and you gain a bit of spread + recoil

No spread or recoil increase, that's never how HL's gameplay went. Weapons always have their regular spread, whether you be still, running, jumping, etc. The only weapon that's different in that regard is the AR2 which gets really 'jumpy' if you try to fire the entire case in one burst.

It's just a suggestion if they wanted to add it, the one handed animation still makes sense
