That's almost too much. Maybe ease of the dirt a touch, and if possible make his eyes a bit bloodshot. I think a few cuts might look good. A few small ones on the cheek from a manhack.
source only supports up to 8192^2 though...
We can rebuild it. We have the technology.
That's the point. No matter how close you get to the gnome, none of the pixels in it's texture end up taking up more than one pixel in your monitor.
Pfft, you just wait until we get 32k monitors. THEN WHO WILL BE LAUGHING?
We can rebuild it. We have the technology. Pfft, you just wait until we get 32k monitors. THEN WHO WILL BE LAUGHING?
It'll be 3999 by then.
Seeing this made me remember that the gnome is a major character in the Half Life universe, so I'll get started on a 16384 x 16384 remake of the texture. Assuming I can do the face of course, I've only ever done stuff like cans.
mipmaps will make it still look like shit

I accidentally made a cyborg. [IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/H7Pmc.png[/IMG_thumb] And on that note, does anyone know how to import the face and the body texture without making, well, that.
mipmaps will make it still look like shit
I don't even comprehend to go so far as to look like no one ever before.
Some more Street War, Barney pics. *pics*
Too much dirt, tone it down, then it'll be good.
http://gamebanana.com/tools/4343 The shaders are broke with HDR but you guys could fix them.
We already have Parallax Mapping implemented into the mod. The only downside being that if you shine your flashlight on it, the shader won't work. [editline]6th January 2013[/editline]
The thick stubble you've created seems to be wasted with all that dirt. Clean him up a bit or, at the very least, make sure to give the rebels the same treatment.
His beard is still quite visible, but also take into account how dirty someone would be after being in a war for about a week (if not a little bit more). Yes, Rebels will also be this dirty. To those people suggesting more cuts, I still have to leave some room for more stuff to add on his 'war-torn skin' for EP1 (if we ever get around to doing that too).

eyes a bit bloodshot
A million times this. You cannot fathom how much the eyes can change a character's appearance.
This skin is still a WIP, there is a lot that will be changed still, bloodshot eyes being one of them, making the face shinier like he's sweaty is another. You also have to take into account that my life isn't made up of just making this mod, and I can't make everything at once.
Barney needs messier hair for his war torn variant. also. Would it be quicker to apply dirt as a decal or something ? I mean... you've got quite a few citizens to mess up.
Barney needs messier hair for his war torn variant. also. Would it be quicker to apply dirt as a decal or something ? I mean... you've got quite a few citizens to mess up.
His hair could be messier, yes, though I wanted to make it kinda reminiscent of the EP1 Barney skin in regards of 'hair messiness'. With the dirt, it's about a 5-30 min. job. Plus I work with lots of layers so I could easily take the 'dirt layer' from one skin, and put it on another. (note 5-30 min. is a really short span, as it usually takes me about 10-15 hours of work to get a face to look perfect).
mipmaps will make it still look like shit
you don't know what mipmaps are
We already have Parallax Mapping implemented into the mod. The only downside being that if you shine your flashlight on it, the shader won't work. .
Why didnt you mention this? As I will make campaign maps specificly for this mod if I get parallax mapping.
How's this for some bloodshot eyes? [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/zrkJ8.jpg[/img_thumb]
Seems overdone. It looks like the whites of his eyes are suddenly transitioning into meat. Try toning it down a bit.
This better? [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/ELeCo.jpg[/img_thumb]
This better? [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/ELeCo.jpg[/img_thumb]
Much
This better? [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/ELeCo.jpg[/img_thumb]
Much better, but he still looks like he fell trough a chimney. Especially for HL2, he is mostly wearing his metrocop mask. And you can't almost see the difference between his face and beard. just look at this dirty guy. e's a real good example

I also don't think he wore his mask in the street wars. He's been in a war for a week, I think he'd be quite dirty from that, even if he wiped his face off. You have grit, dirt, rubble, dust, ect. being blown into your face (and rest of your body) from grenades, bombs, headcrab shells, bullet impacts, ect., tell me why he wouldn't be that dirty, along with the other rebels.
Maybe Scars?
you don't know what mipmaps are
well i may have confused the thing i'm talking about, sorry but it's pretty much related, it still blurs the model textures even on the highest settings or maybe it just depends on your video card and settings
Not that i don't appreciate what you are doing here. But really doesn't look anything like a real dirty face, it's just so monotone all over his face. some dirt spots on his cheeks, nose and forehead. And don't use the same value for it, some dirt spots are denser and thus darker. i'm just starting to think you never seen a dirty face, or played in the mud when you where younger.
I actually think it looks just fine. You have to take into account that C17 is actually a fairly clean place; rebels aren't going to be wading through mud and dirt during the streetwar. The main source of dirt would be the dust coming off collapsing buildings, which are in abundance during the war. Believe me, when that kind of stuff gets kicked up into the air it will get fucking everywhere. You'll have less splotches of mudlike substance and more of the "coat everything with dust" look. What might help add a little more detail is to clear it up a bit in some spots like the wrinkles of the face. Take this coal miner (irony) for example.
