Probably a little too big, since it's impossible to prevent mobs from spawning without making the streets look like crap.
Solution to mob spawning: Half blocks in dark areas.
I wish I had the patience to make something that intricate.
I think a lot of the time it's just dependent on detailing. When I build things, I tend to either build the frame and fill that in or build around it in a way that's aesthetically appealing, or I just build the basic structure (like a square cobble building, plain stone brick tower, etc.) and then go back later to detail it. It's not too hard to give a flat wall some visual interest. For example, if you look at the castle, you'll notice that a great deal of the visible detailing is just buttressing along the walls, along with windows, crenellations, and roofing. Each thing on its own is simple enough to add, but their cumulative effect is what gives the highly detailed look.
I just finished working on a scale replica of a mormon temple in Alaska. I'm not Mormon, I just thought the temple looked cool. In case it's hard to tell, the top picture is the real-life building and the bottom picture is my replica of the building, rendered using Chunky with the Soartex Texture Pack
This is a village me and my girlfriend found near by this complex I've been dicking around with for the past few months. [img_thumb]http://i49.tinypic.com/wrf8tl.jpg[/img_thumb] The roads were un-even and half sunken in, half of the town was sinking into a ravine and they were constantly under attack by creepers. So me and her fixed it up, filled in holes and paved the roads, added a fence around it, light posts, added pastures etc. Kinda proud of it, even though it was mainly minor fixes. Just looks nice, y'know? Edit: Also, sorry for the shitty image quality, blame tinypic.
You should use stairs to make the windows look thinner.
It wouldn't work; for that effect you'd need to either make the windows way shorter than they are or you would have to have vertical half-blocks which currently don't exist. Speaking of that, of all the decorative blocks they could have added, vertical half-blocks make the most sense and yet we have not even a hint of them being added. Upside-down stairs and slabs are certainly nice, but this seems like the next logical step.

While we're at it, corner stairs would also be useful.
[t]http://i.cubeupload.com/Qubmid.png[/t] The first part of a very large project. I'm taking a ton of pictures (one after every five minutes of work) and I'm eventually going to show a time lapse.

These are really inspirational, thanks for your hard work. I'm stuck on the 360 version because my computer is an a-hole. I like to try to take what I can from these designs and apply them to my world.
I actually still have the map sitting somewhere. I'm thinking of starting a worldpainter thread so we can all just throw our maps on there. I make a dozen worldpainter worlds a week and some I wouldn't mind sharing.
Please do

Decided to give that rendering program a go, and because my PC's specs are quite bad it takes ages to render things. Here's a 600x600 render for you guys of my private server. That bastard took 7 hours, I'm doing another now at 1000x1000. I'm only rendering about 6 chunks this time, rather than about 30 like a tit. Looking good so far, I'll post it once it's done! [editline]12th July 2012[/editline] Here it is after an hour and 30 minutes. [t]http://puu.sh/HY89[/t] My mate wants it in his resolution so I'm doing it at 1280x800, I'll post that here too when it's finished.
Back again, after about 5 hours of rendering I think it's nice enough. [t]http://puu.sh/I5zZ[/t] It's 1280x800 and I think it looks pretty damn good!

Back once again, got another render for you guys. It's at 1280x800 again. [t]http://puu.sh/Idzt[/t] Just a random ravine on my world, was curious how the lighting would work like that so I thought I'd test it and this was the result.
Your texturepack makes it looks like ass though. Also a bit too much on the lighting.
It's my favourite pack, the OCD pack. I have a real problem with my OCD and this really helps :v:
How does it help?
My OCD makes me make everything symmetrical. All the blocks in that pack are symmetrical which really helps.
Here's a town I built. It took around 5~ hours over the course of about 3 days.
My OCD makes me make everything symmetrical. All the blocks in that pack are symmetrical which really helps.
My OCD says you should use a different texturepack to render with
Installed VoxelSniper on my server, result of me playing around for about an hour over the past two days. [t]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/577835582150156708/48BF2DFC62535B1B81BB3CFB29E2B6B705B1B091/[/t]
