The world height is 256 blocks. How tall are you planning on building?
The world height is 256 blocks. How tall are you planning on building?
Buildings typically stop at 160 blocks.
I'm running out of ideas for how to build the keep inside the walls. Any suggestions?
Build nonfunctional but neat looking cannons.
Build nonfunctional but neat looking cannons.
How would I go about doing that? It sounds like a neat idea
How tall are you planning on building?
Well, I've played a Half Life mod called Hazardous Course 2 that had a giant obstacle course tower in it that I wanted to recreate in Minecraft. That line in the distance is the tower, which extends into space. Considering I can only go 256 blocks high, I'll probably drop this ridiculous idea.
My server, used mcedit to flatten some of the land but the rest was done block by block by me and a group of mates. We started the project last Saturday so we're still in early days. Did you not work on the middle or did it not load yet fucking amazing work that's just beautiful
Gadzooks!
How's this grass texture I've started on? Not too sure about it myself.
How's this grass texture I've started on? Not too sure about it myself.
I can tell that it will tile like a motherfucker. The key is not leaving out details, while including details that blend in. Take that large light green shape near the center, at first glance you can tell that it repeats four times, and with further examination, it repeats 9 times. Edit: I see you changed it. You can't see much at night, but doesn't tile at much.
And if you're showing off a new texture, don't take a screenshot at night. Because you can't really see the texture. Because it's night. Seriously, why do so many people do this?
Building a generic office block style thingy. Not sure if I should add more floors, or how the hell to handle getting between floors. Texture pack is CoterieCraft, by the way. Not right now, but considering using that method someone mentioned a couple of threads back to splice it into a new tekkit world.
I'm thinking of trying to make the Nali Castle from Unreal in Creative. [t]http://liandri.beyondunreal.com/w/images/NaliCastle.jpg[/t]
Ah yes, you could easily make that castle! Do it! Spent most of my Sunday afternoon working on my desert-temple thing. Shot of the outside, looks fricking horrible at the moment. I may need to use world edit to possibly cover the temple outside in sand or stone.

A shot of the inside. I got a little jumping puzzle to reach the next level.

And a shot of the ceiling to the sky. Eventually I hope to place a garden at the top.

So uh, about the height limit. I went into creative to see how high I could make up. I got way the fuck up above the clouds. Didn't download a mod either since I decided not to bother with it. I could have gone higher except I stopped. Is the height limit infinite in creative only, because if it is then perhaps I can build that enormous ass tower I posted before (albeit with less of a challenge since it won't be in survival).
Nah, it's only 256 blocks by default I think you can set it higher but higher height = more blocks in a chunk = slower loading and worse performance
Is it possible to have an entire world be only one biome?
Is it possible to have an entire world be only one biome?
Yes, if I remember right, Sethbling made a MCEdit filter which allowed you to change the biome on your world. Other then that I don't think it's possible. I'll try to find the link to the filter.
ya thats possible, the server i was on a while ago changed the entire map over to tundra biome i just finished this massive cathedral on westcoast mc server, i'll put some pics up in a while dont have time right now
Nah, it's only 256 blocks by default I think you can set it higher but higher height = more blocks in a chunk = slower loading and worse performance
As far as I know, the height config in the files doesn't affect performance, because it doesn't generate the land higher, just allows you to build taller. There's mods that do both, however.

Despite that apparently Anvil does use cubic chunks for storage, I'm pretty sure it still uses floor-to-ceiling sections for loading.
I'll wait until I buy my computer before I build my Hazardous Course Fitness Tower to space. At least then if any lag does come with it, I'll be able to handle it.

We're making a new spawn since our old one looked pathetic next to our other builds.
Well, I finally finished my Nether Castle. After about 2 months of furious Obsidian mining and running from Ghasts, I finally managed to complete it. I have christened it "Castle Creepskull." I also constructed a massive tower out of obsidian with a stairway inside it that leads to the Nether's ceiling so that I may mine up there to. Probably never going to build something so Obsidian-reliant like this in survival for a looooooooooong time.
How did you get those ice blocks to the left of the last picture in survival? [editline]13th October 2012[/editline] Just googled it. NEVER MIND
