I am confused, new generous person at valve or what?
As said earlier, I think it's an intern job.
As said earlier, I think it's an intern job.
It's not an intern job, Valve doesn't have internship. The people working at the front desk aren't really into games from what I read.
Just tried to send an email to Valve using the thing on their website. I enter the code and press send, but there's no confirmation that it's been sent, it just changes the verification code, so i tried it a few times because i had no idea if it had actually been sent. I hope i haven't just accidentally sent the same email to them several times.

It's a contract job.

Send it manually through your email. Much easier. If you need someone specific's email we most likely know it c:
Do you guys just ask for this stuff?

no.
I'm a junior web designer and developer who's currently in college and I thought that I'd drop off a suggestion for a new steam web API feature:
There's already a way to add users to a friend list using steam://friends/add/*profile*, I think that this could go a lot farther by putting in some arguments that allowed web developers to control what category the users were added to and what nickname they'd have when they would be added.
I was creating a web plugin for greasemonkey when I thought that it would be neat to add people with links that placed them into a tf2outpost group and gave them a nickname that included the names of the items they were selling. However there doesn't seem to be a way of doing that at the moment without using external programs or steam plugins. My suggestion is to make a link/api call in this kind of format
steam://friends/add/*profile*/category/nickname
So for example a link from a trade page, say someone was selling a scrap metal:
The script would create a link by first adding /TF2OUTPOST, getting the list of items being traded then append them at the end of the URL.
The result would be this:
steam://friends/add/76561198043294727/TF2Outpost/Scrap_Metal/
Which would ideally result in the user being added to the friends list in the TF2OUTPOST category with the nickname "Scrap Metal" as shown in the image below.

Other ways in which this could be useful:
-User goes into a steam group, sees another user they want to add, a second add button provides a link to either add the user into a custom category or add them into a category named after the group.
-TF2 Warehouse bots could be added into their own category to keep friend lists clean.
-Games could give users added through them categories through buttons listed as "Add as game buddy", making it easier for users to keep track of players they like playing games with and which games they share.
Thanks for reading this email, I hope you think that this feature would be as useful as I think it would be.

Sent to the Webmaster.
Now to wait for an answer.
So after hearing about the latest "improvement" to HL1, I decided to snap and email Gaben.
I know it's not going to get anything accomplished, but it still feels good to yell at someone to alleviate the rage.

I'm surprised "A pissed of Steam user." is the only unnoticed typo I made considering the fact that I was kinda seething when I wrote the letter.
you sound like a huge asshole and all of your complaints are just whinings with a stupid sense of entitlement
just yell into a pillow or something if you're that mad about video games

Yes, none of those complaints are valid. I have no right to complain about the fact that I bought a game I liked with my own money just to have it fucked with by the company I bought it from. I mean I bought the game, but what a fucking jackass I must be to call it MY game. Besides, I should have considered the possibility that Valve would ruin the game when I bought it. Shit, this sort of thing happens all the time! Why the hell didn't I think about it?
Not like it matters, I shouldn't be worrying about something as stupid as video games. How could something like video games EVER be important to someone?
Although it certainly isn't something worth killing yourself over, I have to agree. I don't really like the fact that the content in one of my all time favorite games is getting edited and replaced without my permission.

valve didn't 'ruin' anything, you're just on the super minority bandwagon that thinks so. the hl2 skybox problem is only for certain computers, the tf2 thing is completely subjective (hint most people don't care), same applies to half life
[editline]26th January 2013[/editline]
hell none of that half life or hl2 shit is even noticeable to the average player

You haven't even played HL with the HD pack on have you? They aren't just Hi-Def models, it changes a few of the guns around (Glock is now a Beretta, Mp5 is an M4) and not to mention the pack is broken and doesn't even work properly.
What annoys me about it is that its a major content update to an extremely old game. There is no reason to start updating it and changing the look of the weapons and NPC models after 15 years, the model pack was included as an option and it should stay one.
Yes, none of those complaints are valid.
Nailed it.
valve didn't 'ruin' anything, you're just on the super minority bandwagon that thinks so.
My opinion is unpopular, therefore I must be wrong.
the hl2 skybox problem is only for certain computers,
And if you happen to have one of those certain computers...? I know it's fixable, but I think the fact that the problem went completely un-addressed is ridiculous. Like I said, they put all this effort into doing an update that created problems and didn't add anything to the game except a shitty HDR system.
the tf2 thing is completely subjective (hint most people don't care),
Most people didn't care about the guys projecting an economic crash in 2009, I guess they were wrong too.
...oh wait
same applies to half life
Then the average player must have the observational skills power of a cocker spaniel.
Nailed it.
Oh man you burned me there XDDDD
Noodle, what reaction from these forumgoers did you expect/ want when you posted in this thread?
It seems like you're fishing for something. Like you want to change our minds so we can get you your day1 TF2 and your 2004 source and your HL1 98 models back.
We can't help you. You can. You can turn off HDR IN THE MENU. You don't even need to open up the console. As for TF2, sorry dude. I mean there's the occasional "classic playlist" server with all the new weapons and hats disabled with nothing but the disc maps, but I do reluctantly admit they aren't always around. Half Life 1 is the trickiest. I'm certain there's going to be a fan patch at some point in the future. That's how this community works.
It does suck that these changes have been for the worse as perceived by many. I myself despise the HD models that Gearbox have authored. Having said that, I can't really sympathize with you when this is how you choose to bring your point across. Not many of us can.

What bugs me is that you shouldn't even have to worry about this in the first place. You would think Valve would think twice before forcefully shoveling a bunch of broken shit into a 15 year old game.
My opinion is unpopular, therefore I must be wrong.
It certainly doesn't help your case that you were basically bitching and moaning about it. You could have calmly explained why you disagree with certain changes Valve has decided to make, but instead went about it in the most immature way possible.
If someone criticizes my work in a calm, respectful way, I will listen to what they have to say. However, if all they do is say: "You're a fucking idiot for doing (x decison) So fuck you, you fucking piece of shit cocksucker."
I'm not even going to consider what you have to say. Infact, I probably won't even read the whole thing, no matter how valid your points may be, simply because of the way you chose to express it.
[thumb]http://puu.sh/1SEMh[/thumb]
I'm not trying to "troll" you or whatever, just listen. What's Gabe supposed to do with this e-mail? I mean, even if he took the time to read it and agreed with everything in it? You said it yourself, your opinion is unpopular. He's not really in the market to cater to a minority. Plus, I'm sure he gets e-mails like this all the time, there's no doubt in my mind yours would get the delete button pretty quickly.
If you really care about these issues, word your e-mail more calmly, and maybe offer possible solutions to these issues. Something more along the lines of "Hey Gabe, I don't really like HL2 on the orange box engine. Is it possible to have the option to play it on the original one? Also, I'm not a fan of cosmetics in TF2, maybe we can have a 'vanilla' cvar or something. Thanks."
That said, probably a good idea to e-mail TF2 specific things to the TF2 team.
To be honest, I can't imagine Gabe being the go-to-guy for ANY of those complaints.
My opinion is unpopular, therefore I must be wrong.
But you are acting like your opinion is right. If Valve doesn't see it as ruining the game and a minority does, I'm thinking they'll cater to whichever one is the majority and whichever one they think is the best option, and the fact that you see TF2 as being ruined doesn't count for much since, as you even said yourself, your opinion is unpopular. If a man makes food and 99 people like it but 1 person doesn't, does that suddenly mean he'll do what the 1 person wants when it will contradict the 99 others? Especially when that one person is being an arrogant asshole?

I seem to remember a couple pages back some one asked for Lan part prizes and they said no.
