Subject: [Contact Form] A question on the Artpass maps.
Good day to all you fine gentlemenn. Hope all is well. With the introduction out of the way, I was wondering about the Artpass maps, and of course everyone's favourite axe-wielder The Horseless Headless Horsemann( Or Pumpkin Killer as we all affectionaly call him on the server before being stomped.
What sealed the deal on Youme's and 3dnj's map, so to speak? What special quality(s) did they have that other artpass maps didn't? Did the team have a list of stuff they wanted in the map to help decide on the winner? I would love to know as I'm starting on creating a map and any answer would help me pinpoint what makes maps fun.
Anywhos, on another note, was the Pumpkin Killer a idea that was already being developed before the artpass maps? Or did it only come in existence after? And if before, was there another Halloween map being made?
Yours sincerely, Mark.

Hi Mark,
We had some basic guidelines to determine the winners per the contest rules: creativity, use of assets, visual quality, and if the map was in fact shippable (they did the work to optimize the level after adding content).
It can be difficult to pin point down what makes any particular map fun. The scenario plays into that, the spaces in which players engage each other, the timing of respawns and run times, ammo and health, all of these balance the map between the two teams and make combat between them interesting in some way.
The Horseless Headless Horseman was conceived by the team when we were designing the Halloween Update this year. The ghost was a lot of fun last year so we wanted to build on that and try something a little different. The timing of YM's entry just happened to be rather fortuitous (and of great quality) so we opted to have him live there.

Hopefully, They'll give me the dimensions... Hell, knowing Valve, they'll probably just ship me the actual sets :buddy:
I just realized something. Gabe is the most sad person on Earth because He's the only one who can't send an Email to Gabe and receive a funny reply that will caught him by surprise.
There's always Chet...

"Dear Savannah, sorry I said we were working on something for you... Infact we were not, I was just keeping you busy, while we deleted your collection and reset your achivements, in all your games. Thank you for your time.
Robin."
No, seriously though: I bet they are going to give you something totally awesome :) 'Cause that's how Valve rolls
Edit: Meh... My bad joke sounded better in my head... CURSES! :monocle:
I wonder if Valve will give me something for having a hat for every class?
