Max Payne 3 was alright for the most part. There were a few things about the gameplay that annoyed me, though.
The game constantly advances itself, pushing you forward, if you want to or not. Every time you walk up to a door it could trigger a cutscene of max sneaking into the next room and a quick camera pan over the enemies. You never know when this might happen and it's really annoying. I often just wanted to scout ahead for more enemies to know if it is safe to go back and peacefully salvage weapons and search for collectables without getting ambushed but max's narritive would pester me to move my ass and then a pointless cutscene happens an all of a sudden I can't go back. I can maneuver max into a new room myself, I don't need the game to do that for me. just trigger his monologue and let me keep control.
Also, there's a lot less interaction with the environment which was one of the things that I loved about max payne. Running into a group of unsuspecting baddies, there was always some kind of reward for waiting and seeing what happens, while in MP3 every sequence starts with max behind some cover, baddies talking about how bad they are and then slowly walking towards your cover. EVERY TIME. I miss stages like the first (canon) level of MP2 where you can act in differend ways towards the disguised cleaners. I mean, the only interaction was "shoot" or "don't shoot" but even with this little, remedy still made it intriguing, like the dummy bad guy out of broomsticks and buckets rigged to explode if a trigger-happy player just rushed in guns blazing with th scheming baddies hiding in the back waiting for the bang. Also, atmospheric, narritive stages like the funhouse with no fighting and more storytelling and symbolism would ahve been nice.
Also, no dream sequences? Come on!
The gameplay however is really solid and pretty much perfected the 3rd person shooter. It just didn't feel very max payne-ish. It was more like some generic gritty action flick with bruce willis as a lead actor or something. Again, not a bad thing, but pretty far from the first two parts. which is a bid frustrating, since we spent 2 games establishing what makes the franchise only to have all this broken by the third one. This is something you'd normally do with the sequel or else you end up upsetting the fanbase.
i have some complains with the game too..nothing that keeps the title of "great game" away tough.
first, sometimes cutscenes were a bitch, every 2 guys killed, cutscene... felt like slowed down the game for me.
second, i didnt like some animations at all, like the default running was kind of jerky and the "sprint" was as slow as if i wasnt pressing the key. Some physics, also, felt so much better on red dead or gta iv, like the ragdolls.
They should have added a little motion blur too, it felt like it needed it sometimes.
Apart from this, i feel dumb for trying to make epic sliced jumps on gta iv now, i kind of feel like they need to be in every third person shooter.

I would love to play with you guys, but due my comps defectiveness, I would only be able to play for 5-20 minutes before the graphics card shuts off, and my mic broke a few weeks back.

Can someone help me?
Steam deleted Max Payne 3's shortcut so when I try to re-add the Shortcut to my Steam it doesn't let me. "Add selected programs" remains grayed out and it doesn't show up on the program list. Anyone know why this is happening? I tried repairing the Steam files (which it didn't allow me), doing a System Restore (which it, again, didn't allow me to do), and re-installed Steam (it allowed me this time) and it still doesn't work.
I don't know what to do.

So, I just decided to pick this up for my Birthday. Finished the Helicopter section. HOLY SHIT THIS GAME IS AWESOME. Only problem is my audio keeps going out of sync so right now I'm updating my drivers then it's right back into Payne.
