Today, we are proud to announce that the Max Payne 3 Official Soundtrack will be available digitally on May 23rd. Composed and recorded by LA-based band HEALTH, the soundtrack features the song "TEARS" which is due for release as a single on iTunes on May 15th, coinciding with the game’s console launch.
“Working on the soundtrack to Max Payne 3 was a great experience,” said John Famiglietti of HEALTH. “Rockstar gave us the freedom to bring our own sound to Max’s dark story, and we’re really proud of the results.”
HEALTH’s unique blend of rock, powerful drums and electronic soundscapes lends itself perfectly to the score for the game. Taking influences from Brazil, Max’s native New York and the themes of the original games, HEALTH have put together a fantastic soundtrack that perfectly embodies the tone and the atmosphere of Max Payne 3. Distinctive arrangements unique to each level accompany Max on his journey through the game's locations, perfectly framing the game's epic action sequences and the dark and gritty story.
“By using a band instead of a traditional composer, we’ve created a soundtrack that sounds completely unique,” said Ivan Pavlovich, Rockstar soundtrack supervisor. “HEALTH have created hundreds of hours of amazing music for the game’s score, and distilled it into a devastatingly moody and atmospheric soundtrack album.
Excerpts from "TEARS" can be heard in the new Max Payne 3 TV spot and you can hear more of what the band have to say about the game in their exclusive Q&A with Pitchfork.
The Max Payne 3 soundtrack will also feature a new and exclusive track from São-Paulo-based Brazilian hip-hop artist, Emicida.
DJ mixes heard during Max Payne 3's Nightclub chapter were compiled and mixed by Brooklyn based DJ collective Trouble & Bass, and will be available free as a digital download following the game's release.

Just because companies like Infinity Ward make lots of DLC, suddenly if any other company makes DLC, they become the anti-christ.
Grow the fuck up, DLC like this has been around for YEARS. Would you rather they leave the game as it is after release?
Yeah but unlike Fallout New Vegas, you can actually buy/pre-order Max Payne 3 on Steam, so I don't think anything wrong is going to happen.
Russian MP3 got unique Steam ID and purchase information, maybe we have bonuses different from other countires, but who knows, it's 1C after all.
Everyone on the Steam forums are bitching about the DLC.
"OMG WHAT IS WRONG WITH ROCKSTAR CANCELLING PRE ORDER NOW!"
"WHO THE HELL CARES ABOUT MULTIPLAYER ANYWAY? IT WILL DIE MID SUMMER"
My piss went to a boil. The Steam forums makes me feel like I'm the only person in the entire world that plans to play the living shit out of multiplayer.

That's just SPUF. The way Rockstar is really pushing the marketing for it, it definitely will be recognized.

GameSpot has recently released a short documentary on the original Max Paynes.

Max Payne fansite Payne Reactor has a hands-on preview of Max Payne 3. The thing I've found about fansite previews is that they're usually more honest about any negative aspects of the game. There is also a preview of the multiplayer.
I want to clear a couple of fan concerns out of the way right away. Just because Max is in Brazil doesn't mean he's chilling on the beach in the sun with cold drinks. This game is dark, gritty, violent and rough! R* have reportedly mentioned its length at 7-10 hours.

I must admit that before I played the game I was a bit worried that this old run and gun recipe might have grown a bit stale. After all it's 9 years since the previous game. That worry is gone now though, the changes Rockstar have made are perfect, and it was incredibly fun.

The controls are fluid, and Max feels more weighty than the previous games (and perhaps comparable games). I was having a shootout with a couple of guys in a kitchen and shoot-dodged over the "kitchen island" in the middle of the room while I shot the enemy, it looked incredibly cool, and the way Max landed and got up from that looked flawless. You can feel him thump into things and get knocks. There was a few times where the transition animations failed a bit, but that was rare and it's impossible to cover ALL cases. Usually though, anything you do transitions perfectly into the next thing you do as can be seen in the Tech videos Rockstar have released.

The amount and quality of cutscene storytelling material overwhelmed me, positively. There's a lot of throw backs to the old games to please us fans just in the stuff I saw. I can't and wouldn't want to tell you what, but if you're an old time fan you'll be happy!
Lords & Ladies? Dick Justice?
I must admit I'm a single player person. I always play the story modes of games first, and I rarely play much if any multiplayer at all. I have put quite a few hours in Battlefield 3 online, but that's a rare exception. So when I heard multiplayer was added to Max Payne 3 I could control my enthusiasm. I always felt that it would be added as a sort of afterthought and not be that good. I was once again proven wrong. The multiplayer felt really good, and there's some really cool game modes that could prove to be good fun if you create a crew and spend some time here.
Multiplayer gives you a choice of soft-lock and free aim, and if you choose soft-lock you'll meet other people that chose that, giving you fair competition. The amount of options in multiplayer was huge, a lot of things to unlock. We kind of saw the whole unlocked set of options so we don't know the specifics of that.
There's also a whole shitload of other fansite previews at the end of the article. I think they may all be from the same event, so the recollections will be similar. Click the quotes here to go to the article:
The game challenges you as much as the previous two did, if not more. This isn't a game that loves and cares for you with an unnecessary drawn out tutorial, this is a game that throws you into the action right away, and keeps giving you more and more and more action that challenges you.

So would I recommend the game? In a word yes. You may be sceptical of this endorsement given that you are reading this on a Rockstar specific fan site, all I can say in response to this is Max Payne 3 is a game which has to be played to be fully enjoyed and appreciated.

At first I found myself dying quite frequently. I soon figured out I needed to make much more use of Bullet Time and Shootdodge, and I was happy I did - I never got tired of flying through the air shooting bad guys in the face (does that ever get boring?).

..creating a story-based plot within multiplayer while still using all of the same mechanics as the single-player campaign. Because of this, Rockstar Games has created the most immersive, action-packed shooter ever - not bad for their first try. When it was said that Max Payne 3 looks almost as good as it feels to play, Rockstar weren't trying to be clever - they were bragging, and rightfully so.

In my opinion the biggest stand out feature in the game is the gore. Whenever you shoot people, wherever you shoot them, you'll see holes rip into their flesh and blood fly everywhere. If you kill the last enemy in a specific area, the shot that kills them will go in slow motion and you'll see the bullet or shrapnel fly towards them and make a mess of their body.

The gameplay itself is, well, in a word: intense! Being a typical PC gamer and fighting with the 360 controller on free-aim I had my ass handed to me an embarassing number of times by the AI. Luckily, Max Payne 3 offers free-aim, soft-lock, and hard-lock aiming modes. After switching to soft-lock business started picking up! I have to admit that the game has a bit of a learning curve to it - for me anyway.

I can't help but feel disappointed at it being 7-10 hours long. I've played tons of games where developers said it was the length, and completed it in much less time.
Then stop rushing through it. Savor it.
you rush through the max games on easiest, not listening to the dialouge or watching the cutscenes
then you play it again on nightmare difficulty, and savour every second

It's 60 dollars for a 10 hour game with not so good multiplayer, plus 40 bucks worth of map packs.
Funny you mention it, then, because that's pretty damn close to COD and it's map packs. There is good DLC, but this doesn't seem to be the case.

You have no idea what the multiplayer is like.
There has been 1 or 2 map packs announced so far (I don't know exactly how many), and I assume it's not going to be $15, so no it's nothing like COD.
If you're not going to buy the game then don't fucking continuously post about how you psychically know how bad it's going to be and how insulted you feel by a company trying to do it's primary purpose, which is to make money.
They owe their fans relatively litte, as they do this essentially out of passion and a need to make a living. And they most certainly owe people like you absolutely nothing.
Grow up.

There are actually 5 map packs in total that are planned to be released.
There are actually 5 map packs in total that are planned to be released.
Well even then. The only reason map packs have become a bad thing is because they've been implemented badly in a couple of games and kick people who don't have them when they're in rotation, and because Activision charged $15 for them. If they're entirely optional and not overpriced, what's the big deal?
You can get all of the maps for like 15$. I'm inclined to believe Rockstar.
It's 60 dollars for a 10 hour game with not so good multiplayer,

says the person who hasn't played the game let alone the multiplayer yet.
10 hours for a game story is good enough for me, once you start pushing beyond that it feels a bit tedious, the exception for me is games like skyrim, new vegas, gta, where the game length stretches out due to free roam
When are the hard copy version of the MP3 comics being released?
Or is it still, "shortly after"?

Oh and for us on the UK side of things, the new multiplayer video is released at 5pm GMT.
June 1st is ever so slowly rolling along.
However 7-10 hours is pretty piss poor especially considering Rockstars record of churning out 20-40 hour tales of pure enjoyment and epicness.
7-10 hours, well that's COD length...
I'm not saying that every moment of MP3 wont be an orgasmic stimulant its just i'd like to play more of this epicness even if, say, as a compromise the gameplay was slightly less...orgasmic overall.
You might say as a counter argumet "but the multiplayer will give you more hours of enjoyment". Well, yes, but ultimately a directioned story driven experience in a game like MP3 is what i, and most of you are paying for.
A COD-like compacted corridor shooter where efficient killers are rewared with bursts (killstreaks) to make them kill even more effectively is fundamentally flawed. A lightweight multiplayer (when compared to singleplayer) is not an appropriate substitute for a deep and emotionally impacting singleplayer.
I know that multiplayer has generally been given favourable views so far, and i know that with each game they make, rockstar is trying to reinvent multiplayer to form attatchments and make it interesting but comeon this is max payne 3 i want to get drunk and kill people for a legitimate reason!
This short singleplayer better be so fucking good. If not, there will be no real consequences for anyone of any sort! Mark ymy words R*, mark my words.

7-10 hours is far from CoD length, 5-6 would be CoD length. And the first 2 games weren't even 10 hours long so it's already longer than the originals.

But think about it. The reason GTA IV and RDR were so long was because in between the missions that actually advanced the story, there was a hell of a lot of dicking around. You could get rid of all the missions in the main mission line that were non-essential to the story and you'd be left with a 7-10 hour game easily.
In a game like Max Payne where the story is the driving force of the entire game, you can't fill that out with other stuff. It would be frustrating and boring.
Oh man, I think we are gonna get some nice starting of the game by Max blasting his way out of New York.
And if we are gonna get some flashbacks to New York on top of that while in Brazil, it's gon be good. Also, what about the nightmares Max have had?

Such things, including the return of the little gimmick shows (Address Unknown, Lords and Ladies) have been hinted on Rockstar's Twitter and other places.
