pretty sure that's the point of the level, to be actually really fucking hard
I found it a pleasant challenge, pissed me off having to do it multiple times but that reminded me of the old school gaming days a lot (despite the lack of quick save)
the whole level felt like it was a boss challenge in itself
edit: overall I really liked the level design for that reason, you had to actually learn the levels in order to get better and get past, something which is lacking from a lot of more recent games

Same here, but I don't have that trouble with machine gunner himself, rather than all of the cracha preto thugs. Typically because they'll get a lucky shot on me and I don't have any painkillers (usually right before the MG), or they'll hit me, but I don't have a clean shot during the painkiller save.
The bulk of my deaths have been caused by me falling into the painkiller save mode and I just don't have a clean shot at the guy who shot me.

The easiest way to kill him is to keep the barrett .50 cal you find just before the rooftop part. It kills the machine gunner in one hit.[/sp]

What can I expect? Never really played the first two games (never was a shoot'em'up kinda guy, much prefered racing) but watched the Max Payne movie recently. Am I doing it all wrong?

Well, the movie is a poor way to try and fill in what happened, as it is not much like the game.

You don't need to know much about the last two games as they aren't really vital to the story in this one.

The first two games have pretty damn good gunplay (albeit, MP2 is more refined), and while the stories aren't exactly.. [i]Unique[/i] on their own, the way they're delivered in the originals is what really makes Max Payne so different. The noir stylings, Max's narration and metaphors of the various occurences, the dark-yet-witty dialogue and events that occur. The third game is very serious with rare humor, but even the second game - more serious than the first, which didn't even take itself seriously - had a number of hilarious moments.
Something about them just makes the series stand out from the rest, for some reason. v:v:v
I was playing through score attack on the docks. I was doing incredibly well and was right near the end with a score of about 27,000, but then my game froze and crashed.
