Beat the game, [sp] It was badass when the music started to play while in the airport[/sp] to say the least it was amazing.
Fucking spoilers everywhere, I'm getting the fuck out of this thread. Zips, tell us how optimized the PC version is if you get a review copy. Also PM it to me because I'm not coming back here until the 29th.
Chances are, if I get a PC copy it will be through Steam same as everyone else. And given that it's what, 35GB, I'm sure others here will actually have it long before me depending on when (or even IF) it's added to my Steam list.
My thoughts, not on gameplay or anything, just themes and the like. [sp]Rockstar seemed to make this game a bit too morbid I thought, pretty much every mission for the first few hours ends with Max chugging Pills and Scotch back at his apartment and wondering if he should put a bullet in his head. What the hell? What happened to John Woo being a password and the crazy lady in the apartment with a shotgun, what happened to Lords and Ladies? Too damn Dark I thought. I get that Payne has always been a dark game, but it was also based on John Woo kickass movies, and while this game amps up the action to the Nth Degree, it just got so damn dark. I did love his insights into the situation however, some were very witty.[/sp]
Using the LAW is great in Payne Killer, it doesn't kill them usually, but it'll send them flying as a Ragdoll. I managed to hit Passos with a rocket, he went into bullet time and proceeded to shoot the fuck out of me as he flew threw the air.
Also that song on the [sp]airport[/sp] level really made it in my opinion. It was so cool to have it kick in just as you are getting ready to kick somebody's ass
That sounds intense and badass as fuck. Can you use this to sort of rocket jump your fellow Payne/Passos?
I wouldn't know, Payne starts off with dual Ingrams and Passos gets the LMG .30 (But you can loot guns pretty quickly) And seeing as I got the LAW from a pre-order, the chances of Max or Passos picking one up is slim.
Are you guys playing with Soft Lock or Free Aim? Did anyone else kill that naked prostitute in the favela? :v:
I know that the game will still be hard, but I feel as if most of the difficulty console users are facing is created just from the use of the controller. Max payne is just a game more suited for mouses and keyboards.
Are you guys playing with Soft Lock or Free Aim? Did anyone else kill that naked prostitute in the favela? :v:
I've been playing exclusively Free Aim
Are you guys playing with Soft Lock or Free Aim? Did anyone else kill that naked prostitute in the favela? :v:
Free aim all the way, screw soft locking.

Similarly there will be difficulty in movement to a degree on the PC. With an analog stick you can move really fluidly, and in a game like Max Payne that's really essential. On PC, you have WASD, meaning you move in four directions and that's it. There are advantages to both controllers and mouse and keyboard etc etc

I'm terrible at console aiming but I have a couple of friends who I've seen play other games on my PS3 and can do great. It's just a matter of becoming accustomed to something, I suppose. For most of us, the mouse just feels more accurate.

the multiplayer spawns in this game are laughably bad
Holy fuck the end of the game is frustrating. It seems like Rockstar just thought "How many enemies can we throw at them without lagging the game?" luckily I died like ten times and ended up with them giving me three free painkillers on top of the two I already had, so I was a lean, mean, painkiller-popping machine for the finale. [editline]17th May 2012[/editline] The multiplayer is a lot of fun but it seems like half of the guns are just plain unusable. The two-handed SMGs are really bad for the most part, and the 1911 doesn't have the capacity to kill people before you need to reload. If you miss two out of the eight shots it gives you, the remaining six can't kill a full health enemy. Basically you need to roll things with high capacity to be able to do well. Low-capacity will kill you more often than you'd think.
Fuck this game I can't play it without the game freezing fuck
I think a lot of the problems game developers end up having with gameplay balancing issues is that when they get testers, the testers all end up wanting to play the same way. When you make a tactical game for example the testers want to work tactically and they end up not doing crazy run-and-gun shit which ends up happening when the game goes retail and it becomes a problem (rainbow six) I think Max Payne's playtests were all focused on cover and Red Dead Redemption style playing because when you go online and play like that it works, but it doesn't matter because the guy sprinting right in your face with an ak will win almost every time
game glitched out on me pretty funny, I was in bullet-time trying to take out a room full of paramilitary, shot one guy who was crouching right in his hands, he bounced up and flew across the room slamming into an air con duct
I think it takes too long to level up
I think it takes too long to level up
It takes like, four hours of play time to get to Level 8, whereas in something like Call of Duty or Battlefield it would take closer to half an hour. I'm inclined to agree, it takes too long to level up.
I think it takes too long to level up
this isn't call of duty. the levels are meant to mean something unlike call of duty where they're just numbers
this isn't call of duty. the levels are meant to mean something unlike call of duty where they're just numbers
how is the leveling system any different from Call of Duty? You level up, you get guns, and then when you use those guns you get attachments for them. The only other thing you get is appearance options for your characters in Multiplayer, and those never really get seen by other people unless you're MVP. The reward system is almost identical to Call of Duty, it just takes a hell of a lot longer, and so people assume it takes 'skill' instead of playtime.

In Call of Duty, you see someone who's rank 60 or 70 or whatever the fuck they are, noone gives a shit because it takes a day of sitting on your ass and playing to get there.

Sorry, if I see someone at Rank 40 I'll say "wow that person needs to go outside more often" not "OMG WHAT A SKILLED BADASS" There's not even that big of a difference in XP if you do good or average. A good player will rank up slightly faster, but really, all having a high rank means is that you've played for awhile. Just like Call of Duty.
I've just remembered a funny glitch in single-player. I don't know what happened but as Max was landing on the ground from a Dodge, he touched the ground, then lifted up into the air while on his stomach, doing a back-flip, and then slammed hard as shit back into the ground. Looked hilarious with the physics.
Sent an invite to the Facepunch crew, once I finally figured out how to find it.
For those who've played it, how fun is the Payne Killer game mode compared to the deathmatch, and Gang Wars modes?
For those who've played it, how fun is the Payne Killer game mode compared to the deathmatch, and Gang Wars modes?
It's kind of frustrating, since whoever's Max Payne the longest is going to easily top the scoreboard, and you need like three people shooting at him at once to kill him. Basically, it's fun if you're Max, not so fun if you're not.
For those who've played it, how fun is the Payne Killer game mode compared to the deathmatch, and Gang Wars modes?
Payne Killer so far has been my favorite mode in multiplayer. If you want an idea of what playing as Max is like, imagine the hardest difficulty in the game, then add really crazy AI, and make the kills feel 100x more rewarding [editline]17th May 2012[/editline]
It's kind of frustrating, since whoever's Max Payne the longest is going to easily top the scoreboard, and you need like three people shooting at him at once to kill him.
I don't see how else you'd expect to win, Max/Passos is easy to take out if you can hit them from behind before they can take their painkillers. Any easy way to take them out is to stomp on them after they do a shootdodge. Just run up at them, you'll be harder to shoot when they're on the ground. One thing I don't like about Payne Killer is that the maps don't compliment it too well, shootdodging and bullet-time arn't as effective when you're being shot from several different angles and distances. But it still feels super-rewarding when you shootdodge off a catwalk and kill two guys as you're coming down.
