Fun fact. Mine arrived and I wasn't expecting it to. Oh well, sick day just got a little better.
Mandatory install on PS3, whelp.
i think rockstar should make gta5 basically like this game only you can jack cars and there's no bullet time (shoot dodge in gta would be cool as fuck, admit it).
the fact that you could only carry one longarm and that it's literally always in your hands means missions where you get a free ak are actually useful. the only gun you really have on you at all times would be your "pistol" (could be anything from a micro smg to a glock), and you'll find yourself discarding and replacing two handers/guns-you-can't-conceal-on-you a lot.
if you think about it that's kind of the way it is in real life, even in media. you'll always be finding the signature weapon of most characters being a pistol, probably some whacky custom job.
in my mind it really fits the profile because gta has always been about gangster shit, and normally gangster shit is carried out with concealable weapons, and the bigger guns you can't hide are for special occasions. whenever assault rifles and combat shotguns are involved in the media, normally they're all passed around beforehand. everyone would carry something they can hide at all times like a sawn off or a pistol and take the ak in addition.

That's kind of what I was expecting to be in GTAIV, with the duffel bag being a way to conceal several large guns. That would be pretty awesome, imagine walking towards a couple of gangsters that are guarding some door, pulling out an AK-47 out of the bag and start blasting.

I respectfully disagree, while I would enjoy the game, part of the fun of gta is being able to pull out a rocketlauncher wherever the fuck you are and just fucking shit up.
i think it's time we moved on from the juvenile "i can fit an rpg-7 an automatic shotgun an mp5 an m4 and 20 grenades in my pants" bullshit. also cheats
it would really REALLY improve upon the gameplay and give it a much more gangster feel if we had a system like that. having to actually manage your weapons and shit instead of being able to pass off an arsenal as your regular everyday crotch stuffer. also the who subterfuge thing. that's something that's always been missing in GTA.
in GTA you've always been able to be a plain old psychopath, not much else. in 5 i want the ability to be the cool operator type.

There's no reason to keep a game from becoming truly immersive and keep using outdated gameplay mechanics just for that.
and can you imagine the backlash? I'm sorry, even though "magic pockets with all the weapons you pick up" is a dated mechanic, it's also a key element of GTA gameplay. People got pissed off enough that we couldn't steal jets or tanks in GTA IV, how do you think they'll feel if we only let them carry 2 small firearms and 1 large firearm etc.
if there was to be any change, i'd prefer it to be more like red dead redemption. Still get a fairly wide selection, but you can't magically store every kind of weapon in your pockets etc.
It's hard to vote on just those outfits, when this outfit consistently takes the cake:

i don't think it'll fuckin matter. GTA is going to get stale if the next game isn't groundbreaking

I couldn't care less. If people only play GTA to fuck shit up and nothing else, they're playing the wrong game.
also it's far from a key mechanic.
the main mechanics of a GTA game are a huge world, a wanted system, the ability to hijack cars, lots of guns and lots of excuses to use them.
i might be missing something but that's it. hammer space is not among the things in that list.
another case to point out would be duke nukem, DNF only allowed people to use 2 weapons, that pissed everyone off.
I don't see why people can't just see games as well, games, and rather have the necessity of them being these super immersive, film style epic stories etc.
this isn't the place to argue it anyway, this is the max payne thread
also if you want to just go out and fuck shit up i hardly doubt a sweet new inventory system like that could hinder your ability to fuck shit up.
think about it, in all GTA games you really always had a melee weapon, a pistol, sub machine gun, shotgun, assault rifle, special weapon and explosive.
4 out of those weapons are always going to be bullet shooting weapons. i don't see what the problem is. sure you won't be able to carry everything to be ready for the apocalypse +1, but you'll still have the capacity to fuck shit up however you please, having the arsenal in your pockets isn't necessary really.

duke nukem forever was a bad/half-bad game altogether.
i'm just gonna ignore my own statement about this isn't the place to argue about it for a minute
I can see how it would still work, but I think it'd need to be less limited than Max Payne 3 imo. I wouldn't mind it, because I can definitely see it being fun in missions and stuff, it's more the free roam that i'd be curious about. It might work, and I can see why you think it'd be cool, but i'm more considering the backlash to sudden "restrictions" where restrictions weren't really as evident before hand if that makes sense
They should just make it an option. That would be brilliant.
It would be cool in GTA V if you could buy new holsters, starting out with putting it down your pocket then upgrading to holsters for two handed weapons and whatnot.
Wait a minute, is the game supposed to be out already? My friend just told me he finished playing the campaign. Was it leaked?

Console versions are out, PC version isn't.
I just checked Wikipedia, really, 2 weeks between console and PC releases?!
Rockstar sure knows how to spoil a good story to the original playerbase of the game...
holy mother of fuck is the multiplayer fun.
i think im going to spend all two weeks of my summer break playing this shit.
[editline]21st May 2012[/editline]
That doesn't work in GTA V because the style of gameplay is probably going to be significantly less "run and gun"
how? so what if there's less emphasis on shooting. you do that sort of inventory system you'd be bringing gta into a whole new era. as well as opening up shitloads of opportunities.
Fuck yeeeeeeees it's here, at last!

The last thing GTA needs right now is more realism. If anything, it should be sillier, like San Andreas.
Making it so you can only hold 3 weapons would not be "bringing it into a new era", it would just make the game more restricting. And making an open world sandbox game more restricting is about as backwards as you can get.
The last thing GTA needs right now is more realism. If anything, it should be sillier, like San Andreas.
No it doesn't. GTA isn't supposed to be silly, the only game that was silly is SA and it definitely wasn't the best in the series. Saints Row is supposed to be silly, not GTA. I'd rather have them make GTAV even more realistic than GTAIV, silliness isn't what GTA is about, that's the Saints Row role.
you obviously havn't played any of the games prior to gta iv....
they're all silly, in gta 2 you had a fucking chain lightning gun
have you even played gta 3 or gta vice city? gta 3's story is so fucking "silly" compared to gta iv, same with vice city, but in vice city the weapons were great you had things like chainsaws and shit.
gta iv was the only one with a real emphasis on "realism"
edited: kept writing gta v instead of iv
they're all silly, in gta 2 you had a fucking chain lightning gun
I've played all of them and they were all better than SA. Sure, GTA 1 and 2 were crazy, but that was when GTA was just a game where you blow shit up and there was no story or anything in it. Since GTA3, GTA has been about a well written story, a well made atmospheric setting and making a world that's a living parody of our world. San Andreas failed in almost all of those things. Vice City wasn't very silly, neither was GTA3 or any of the Stories games.
Saints Row is the silly crazy open-world game, not GTA.

I don't mean Saints Row level of silliness. I mean it should generally be more lighthearted and just a little more focused on fun than realism. Personally, I think GTAIV is as realistic as it should get. Ballad of Gay Tony was a step in the right direction.

gta 3, well written story? yeah right.. the story is so racist and poorly executed that it's funny just how bad it is. "Now go kill all these people and steal all these cars while I go have lesbian sex", paraphrasing but still, that's pretty much what you get told to do at one point

No one ever says anything like that in the game. And no shit it's racist, that's the point, GTA is all about stereotyping the living fuck out of everything.
[editline]21st May 2012[/editline]
Either way, the story in SA is far worse even than that.

so it's about being realistic, but it's about stereotyping the living fuck out of everything at the same time...
your argument is getting incoherent. Also, as a matter of fact that is said in the game, as I said it was poor paraphrasing, but I specifically remember it; it was that asian lady that you have to work for, forget her name.
the reason i'm not addressing your SA argument is because that really comes down to a matter of opinion. I thought the story was fun, engaging, but you can't tell me the rest aren't silly and over the top. GTA IV was the tamest of them all, by far. even then it still had the GTA charm to it in parts, and the typical story arc where things start of fairly small time and get blown completely out of proportion towards the end, it just lacked the variety that previous games had to offer, like chainsaws and flamethrowers and jets and jet packs and dildos and golf clubs and you get the picture.
so it's about being realistic, but it's about stereotyping the living fuck out of everything at the same time...

When the fuck did I said it's about being realistic? It's not, but a bit of realism does wonders to make the game more immersive.
[editline]21st May 2012[/editline]
And I'm not an argument.
