He's probably like "Oh shit man this is all my fault I'll do anything to help"
I'd imagine he wouldn't blame himself directly for the Incident, and instead choose to blame Black Mesa's administration, up until the Half-Life 2 story arc, where he'd feel the full force of it: Learning that it's effects spread all over the world, and that it attracted the Combine.
Then again, in HL1 he must've been like "what the fuck did I just do" And then he found out what he did at the end.
About to play the 2005 version of half-life 2 this christmas break. Fuck dat 2010 update. Made the game look different and I don't like different when it comes to my favorite game of all time. Seriously, look at this shit:

Now I'm not particularly hip to such lingo, but I'm pretty certain this means "one true pairing" and implicitly implies a romantic relationship in these couples. Hence, I invite you all to join me in mentally picturing Eli and Kleiner gettin' freaky in bed. It's clearly what the artist wanted.

Gina and Colette looks like men.
Who's the guy Gordon is with? Is he a rebel I don't remember?
You love Half-Ankh?
No, he hearts half-ankhs. Gosh.
No. He sees part of the companion cube, so he halves an egyptian.
No, its lambda-pupil, companion cube, 1 or 2 and an ankh
I want to see companion cubes, 1/2 of them get the key of life?
I can't stand most interpretations of Gordon Freeman as a person. He's either so noble and heroic, it it spits in the face his notorious, and flourishing killcount, or so egotistical and conceited, it shits all over his relationship with the Half-Life 2 resistance. There's never a middle ground.
What relationship with the resistance? Seriously, nearly every refugee or resistance member he meets dies. He causes the detainment/beating/death of an entire city block, tears the underground railroad apart with manhacks, gets Black Mesa East destroyed and brings gunships to the coast outposts. The few helpful things he does such as blowing up Nova Prospekt (killing all the resistance members trapped inside) or nuking the citadel (destroying an entire city) he does as guided by the GMan, not out of loyalty or whatever. All those rebels that flock to him during the C17 revolt are used as meat shields and health kit dispenser systems. They all throw their lives away so the mute orange figurehead who destroys everything he touches can reload without being shot at. Freeman is a callous motherfucker man.
Gina and Colette looks like men.
And so does Alyx.
I believe the interpretation of Gordon is meant to take place at an individual level. Freeman is like whatever each individual player wants him to be, that's why Half-Life doesn't have cutscenes and Gordon doesn't speak. Rather than characterizing Gordon they just let us rationalize his behavior and decisions the best we can ourselves. I think making public interpretations of Gordon does the game a great disservice since they conflict with our own. That's why I don't think a Half-Life movie should ever be made.

A movie based on the HL universe doesn't necessarily need to have Gordon (or any other already known character) in it and it would still be Half-Life. Also it would be "more friendly" for people who doesn't know anything about HL.

I wonder why anyone interested in treasures even bothers talking to him, because everywhere he goes, ancient cities and wonders are destroyed. Even places that aren't every archaeologists wet dream are torn apart. Like that Nepalese village.

I guided one rebel, who I named Kurt, throughout all of the war-torn City 17, protecting him as best as I can. When he did die, I had a funeral, resting his shotgun on his chest, only for a random Medic to swap his SMG for it. In Kurt's honour, I killed the Medic by launching a large cupboard at him.
Maybe you aren't even Gordon Freeman in HL2 and are just a guy who looked a lot like him. Everyone thought you were him so they sent you to fight.
Kurt and his shotgun... oh boy!
