Vortigaunt Zombies, which should exist.
Do you really think a Vortigaunt would let itself be killed by a headcrab? They have those crazy hand lightning spark things.
How do people get stuck in On a Rail? The only annoying part for me was the slowly raising elevator surrounded by soldiers, and that was easy enough once I saw the ladder up the side
Maybe it's because I suck, but I always find myself at low health. And when soldiers start bringing turrets and all I can do is try to throw my paper grenades at them while tanking damage with what little health I have. But nonetheless, I did beat it. Currently at the conveyor belt part.
Apparently the Combine use Gonarches as a method to create Headcrabs for their canisters (At least that was the plan in the HL2 beta). So they would probably diminish the population. Also I think that Poison Headcrabs and Fast Headcrabs were genetically modified Headcrabs created by the Combine, and the Combine also modified normal Headcrabs not to grow into Gonarches as they would cause obvious problems. What I find strange is how Headcrabs were already adapted to latch on to Human heads, unless they were already adapted to latch on to Vortigaunt heads (very likely) and Humans and Vortigaunts have a more similar physiology than we think. But if this is the case where are all the Vortigaunt Zombies, which should exist. So many questions.......
None of the 'crabs are modified, JSYK. According to Marc Laidlaw, anyway. Also, Vortiguants are able to defend themselves well. That may be a "story-line" factor in it. Besides, we didn't get a Combine zombie until Episode 1, or a military zombie until Opposing Force. And I don't think we ever got a Security Guard zombie... Regardless, there's a lot of NPCs in Half-Life that haven't got a zombie model or took a while to get one.

Big maybe though.
Headcrabs can potentially survive off other things other than just humans or intelligent species with heads in their efforts to become Gonarchs. Take Lamarr for example. Kleiner has had her debeaked and keeps her on a diet of what I suppose is composed of various fruits, like watermelons. And after Lamarr hops into the teleporter with Gordon, you can see her pouncing for birds, which shows that she can still eat meat and stuff despite being debeaked. Makes wonder if they're going to bring Lamarr back somehow. I thought she was gone for good in Half Life 2 after she got teleported away But lo and behold, she somehow made her way back to Kleiner seemingly unharmed. All in all, I like to look at Lamarr as proof that Headcrabs have more survivability than they seem to show...at least when they're not looking down the barrel of a shotgun or getting splattered by crowbars.

The first time, she was teleported into the Wastelands, probably right outside City 17. And, because she was involved in the teleporter incident, it's not too far-fetched to say she may have teleported similarly to Gordon, and possibly ending back in Kleiner's lab. This time, Lamarr was launched inside a rocket into space. Perhaps the rocket could fall back to Earth and she could survive, but the odds of finding the nose cone are slim.
Oh God, I'm only a little bit in the Questionable Ethics chapter and I'm already drawing parallels to Metroid.
The Vortigaunts and the headcrabs didn't meet until the colonization of Xen

I assume that Lamarr was one of the things that also got teleported back.
The Vortigaunts and the headcrabs didn't meet until the colonization of Xen
No, xen was previously uncolonized by any form of life until the nilanth went there to escape the combine, when he went there he brought a lot of pests from the place he came from (also the place the vortigaunts come from) which includes headcrabs.
No, xen was previously uncolonized by any form of life until the nilanth went there to escape the combine, when he went there he brought a lot of pests from the place he came from (also the place the vortigaunts come from) which includes headcrabs.
Where did you learn that?

And what about those little plants that hide when you get close to them? They feel pretty native to me.
they aren't
they aren't
i cant wait to see the compelling evidence youre basing that on
-oh-
Why would he need that
to provide evidence for his argument also is it the fad now to type as if were in a chat room with no capitals or punctuation, because were just that edgy and we just dont care
2cool2pressshift
Motherfucking thank you. I really wish we still had the smartness system, to deter that shit. For some reason, it's really become a pet peeve of mine. If you're in a chatroom, then it would be fine, but this is a forum. Take the time to use some basic grammar and apply capital letters and periods and whatnot. [editline]2nd January 2013[/editline] Anyways, just because nothing is native to Xen, doesn't mean that whatever was there had to have been brought over by the Nihilanth. Granted I have no idea how else they would've gotten there, but I'm just saying they might have gotten there by some other means.
i cant wait to see the compelling evidence youre basing that on
I know I'm reposting this, but. http://www.valvetime.net/threads/info-received-from-valve-only-no-questions-discussion.1298/page-22#post-1994259
The Xen Controllers were part of the Nihilanth's support network, and they relied on the Nihilanth to throw them around where it wanted them to go, so if there are any left, they are probably stranded in what would not have been their natural native environment (nothing's native to Xen). However, without access to a steady food supply (whatever it is they eat), they may well have simply died out.
That means not even those fauna are native, they are highly likely just pest's or a source of illumination (or maybe food) the nilnanth brought with him when he colonized xen.

Same. The thing is, it really wasn't a pet peeve of mine until only a few years ago. I suppose I've just gotten used to people making shitposts while doing it, so my mind has basically connected the two.

Is this a grammar discussion thread now?
You know actually, what if Gabe has been waiting to release episode 3/HL3 in 2013 because of the fact it ends in three, and that it would fit the name or w/e
to be honest Half-Life is classic game, it's like a squeezed lemon, this game is ran out of ideas, the end. What if the next game (The Third game) (The first two are Half-Life series and Portal series) from VALVe will be absolutely different, a new title, more global in terms of plot, like it was between Alien and Prometheus.
No. Episode 3 has been delayed because VALVE DUG THEMSELVES INTO A HOLE. So few people realize this. VALVe has always made it open that they like free reign over their ideas. They hate being boxed into something with no way out. They don't want to jump the gun and get too far ahead of themselves. And Episode 2 did just that; they jumped the gun on the series plot and now they're stuck there. They've locked themselves into Borealis, big huge secret power and an Arctic setting. And it's not just a trailer this time, like with Episode 2, this time they can't retcon it, or keep it as preliminary ideas and subject to change. And they know that they have to stop this in HL3/EP3, because if they end it in a cliff-hanger of "what will we do with this new technology?" It's just gonna start it all over again.
How ironic would it be if aliens invaded earth before HL3 comes out.
