Sheet, I had almost forgotten how sexy those combine APC's are.
Ah, didn't check the domain when i said "I don't see anything saying it isn't canon". My bad! As for the turrets/cannons/artillery on the blueprint I wonder if it was intentional or just because the used USS Newport News as a base for the blueprints. [t]http://images.wikia.com/half-life/en/images/5/5e/USS_Newport_News_MainDeckAft.jpg[/t]
The turrets are kind of hard to miss, so i don't think they would of left them on if they didn't want them.
So I found this CG Set, it's pretty sexy:
Damn, I'd love to see more of those kinds of renders. Source just doesn't do the Combine and their tech justice.
Damn the ingame model for the APC-s are terrible. What happened to the driveable APC-s though?
That portion of the game was cut because playtesters complained it was too slow.
I fully expect Hl2 ep3 to look Better than the latest xbox 360 games without requiring a better computer. With better art assets than those games. I was actually both surprised and impressed with how good black ops 2 was and i expect valve to do one better.
Sheet, I had almost forgotten how sexy those combine APC's are.
I personally thought they were quite bland, but that render is great.
Damn, I'd love to see more of those kinds of renders. Source just doesn't do the Combine and their tech justice.
Lets hope source 2 will.
That portion of the game was cut because playtesters complained it was too slow.
Damn Valve playtesters always ruin things that sound interesting.
Damn Valve playtesters always ruin things that sound interesting.
Yep. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=C4cfo0f88Ug edit: Video tags wouldn't work. edit2: Apparently you guys didn't get the joke.
Damn Valve playtesters always ruin things that sound interesting.
Well i can also believe that fast moving buggy car is more satisfying to drive than slow apc. "The APC was originally to be a player-driven vehicle. Playtesters found that the slow movement was not as satisfying as the Buggy, and it was recast and used by the Combine forces only"
Yep. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=C4cfo0f88Ug edit: Video tags wouldn't work.
I always thought that was just a disconnect between marketing/animation and the actual game developers.

But it seems fast when the combines drive it
the APC's engine sound is really sexy somehow
The apc looks like it can barely carry 1 person.
Out of curiosity, what ever happened to Follow Freeman?
The apc looks like it can barely carry 1 person.
magic non-euclidean portal technology inside, the thing can actually hold an entire battalion
You know the wheels are really big, right?
Isn't this also maybe older combine apc?
You know the wheels are really big, right?
[editline]3rd January 2013[/editline]
Isn't this also maybe older combine apc?
Yes, as said in the wiki that the image is from. http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Armored_Personnel_Carrier
The beta APC still appears ingame, during the uprising a few destroyed ones pop up at certain points.
Out of curiosity, what ever happened to Follow Freeman?
Dead due to lack of interest, and a damned shame too since it looked to be the most innovative, especially after the gutting of Synergy for the Steam release. [editline]3rd January 2013[/editline] Also, holy shit, people still play HL2CTF?
Out of curiosity, what ever happened to Follow Freeman?
What's Follow Freeman?
What's Follow Freeman?
This
This
Hmm, what a shame that it never got finished.
This is quite interesting, has anyone tried it? In the chapter Point Insertion, remains of that feature can still be found near the rooftops: in the map d1_trainstation_03, when the player jumps on the street (with god mode enabled) and reaches for the two APCs that finished their course on the right, using the "Use" key will trigger something. In the Xbox 360 port of Half-Life 2, the screen turns beige, controls for it show up, and they can be driven. On PC, the player will only find themself under the vehicle, and nothing more will happen.

IE: Get down to ground level, kill a few of those cops (Or Alyx does), hijack the APC and flee to some rebel camp. I don't know.
