Would it be warez if I asked where you got that, or no?
Valve doesn't care if you download alpha/beta stuff. afaik.
Image doesn't work...
Would it be warez if I asked where you got that, or no?
I'm guessing it might be from this guy on Reddit. He's the guy who had that alpha disc a while back.

He has no idea how to convert the disc to ISO nor does he know how to upload.
He might be "terminated", like Shepard was. Maybe all he needed to do was trigger a worldwide revolution and destroy/utilize the technology on the Borealis; after that, they could leave him to die on the ship. Much easier than putting him in stasis.
I really like this idea. But not because of the prospect of Gordon's death. No, as the ship begins to sink, and him and Alyx are moments away from certain doom, Gman will do his standard "freeze-time to-talk" thing. Only, he discusses Gordon's "contract", and how now that Gordon is of no use to him, that he is suddenly worthless. I'm imagining him taking a darker, more sinister to e of voice aswell, as if he really took enjoyment out of the inveitable death of Gordon. Gman would then "cut him off", so to speak, and begin laughing as he left. As time resumes, yadda yadda Gordon and Alyx escape the ship happy ending bwoo.
Wow, i'm actually playing the alpha right now. It's a really small window and you play with ESDF instead of WASD. [editline]8th January 2013[/editline] Lots of debug stuff too [editline]8th January 2013[/editline] Found this in the alpha disc: HALF-LIFE Synopsis The Portal Device is a dimension-spanning gate of unpredictable power, constructed in a decommissioned missile silo. So far no one has ventured through the Portal, but there has been a steady flow of odd creatures coming to our world. You are a weapons research scientist who has never touched a weapon—until now. An accident in the Threshold’s power core fractures the local fabric of spacetime, and hordes of creatures begin spewing into our world through the fissures. Monsters are everywhere, and your co-workers are dropping like flies. You head for the surface but the usual routes are unpassable—damaged by the disaster and infested with monsters. The silo security guards are in a state of primal terror and looking for someone to blame. The obvious scapegoats are the scientists. Namely, you. In your flight to the surface, you acquire a device which means the difference between victory and annihilation—but you don’t realize whose victory, until too late. As the Portal experiment’s first human subject, you are cast into the alien world to confront the ultimate horror…to cut off the invasion at its source. In Half-Life, you won’t just go head-to-head with an alien boss—you will fight it from the inside out.
Probably gman assuming its original alien form while you watch. I don't even know how possible it is in the current source engine, but that's my bet.
That would probably be just a few model transforms with some shaders similar to how they did all the material magic in the HL2 opening. What I mean is something like how Portal evolved from a simple game mechanic to an engine tool, along with Left 4 Dead's Nav Meshes. One such example is in this scene in portal 2. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/MAAWn.jpg[/thumb][thumb]http://i.imgur.com/VGjFZ.jpg[/thumb][thumb]http://i.imgur.com/cw6qb.jpg[/thumb] Here you can see that the chamber slides in from the right. In hammer, making entire movable rooms is very difficult to compile, compared to the technique they are using here. The actual chamber is very far away from where the moving parts are, and the square hole contains an entity that uses the same technique the portals use. This way they just move a model with this portal parented to it, and turn it on to make the player assume that the room moved. Left 4 dead's nav meshes went from being a simple way to have zombies know their way around the map to becoming the way their AI bots in TF2 function. F-stop may be the technology they were looking for, because it is the only project they did that they are keeping private.
I can imagine if quiver is still being developed (the mod I was talking about earlier), this half life alpha will be plenty helpful for the them. Seeing things I didn't know about before in the alpha.
Would it be warez if I asked where you got that, or no?
I believe you've already found it, but for everyone else, I'm going to err on the side of caution and not link to it. However, Neo Kabuto did link to the Reddit thread with the guy who uploaded the disc, i.e. it's public. I imagine the Half-Life news sources will catch on to this soon and perhaps mirror the download themselves. In the mean time, here's a video I recorded of the tech demo levels from the alpha:
Nvm, I figured it out.
It's kind of odd knowing now that all those old demonstrations of Half Life were all basically just heavily pre-scripted filmsets on the same map. By the way, is there that one room with the Duke3d/Doom-esque "Level end" button somewhere on that map? I remember an old Half Life trailer ending with the player getting into a dead-end corridor and pressing on a Lambda-logo'd button like they were at the end of a level in Duke3d.
wow i wish i had this half life alpha im usually really good at finding this type of shit on my own but im not having any luck here
how do you resolve the graphics drivers issue
Delete opengl32.dll (the one that's in the same directory as the executable) and run the enginegl.exe version.
wow i wish i had this half life alpha im usually really good at finding this type of shit on my own but im not having any luck here
Seriously. I can't find it either.

A shame that the modern model viewers don't work with these old models. Edit: I like the alpha MP5 fire sound, much better than the retail one to me. Also, is it okay to post pictures moderators here and in the general ingame screenies thread?

you can add me < if you can't find the download link
garry says posting download links are fine You can find the alpha here http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/1665n3/update_finally_got_a_copy_of_that_half_life_alpha/ eventually I'm gonna move my thread from sensationalist headlines into here, and we can take the alpha discussion to there, since I imagine it's going to carry on for awhile and it'd be nice to have it's own thread.
Oh my god, i never thought this day could happen. TOO MANY STUFF TO SEE.
The ebay auction's been removed for violating ebay's ToS. Poop.
Today is a great day for Half-Life fans.
I just downloaded the two files and I dont know what to do with them. How do I even install or play it?
I just downloaded the two files and I dont know what to do with them. How do I even install or play it?
You can extract the .BIN, i used Universal Extractor.
Out of curiosity, what ever happened to Follow Freeman?
I contributed to FF a little bit, I ran the forums, was primary QA, and a mapper. Basically the two leads of merciless development started to get discouraged due to the competition brought on by Synergy and Obsidian Conflict. The final nail in the coffin was when Synergy got on steam. The two went on to tackle other unsuccessful projects. I haven't been in contact with them for at least 3-4 years now.
