Yay the two are merged! Also, does anyone have a link to the Blue Shift Instruction Manual, the Half-Life Instruction Manual and the Opposing Force Instruction Manual so I can see those letters that were written?
Opposing Force diary entries can be read here: http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Adrian_Shephard
So, do you guys expect valve might give us a more diverse arsenal for the next HL more akin to HL1's variety, or you think it's gonna be just more traditional weapons again?

I hope they play around with more alien technology like in Opposing Force. So far HL2 has been pretty tame on the weapon front, I think the only new weapons are the Pulse Rifle and of course, the Gravity Gun.
Honestly I thought most of the extra guns in hl were a gimmick. I rarely used snarks, the hive hand, and a few others. I'm always sticking to the same 4 or 5 guns. Extra shit is just wasted time and code imo

You're forgetting the Magnusson Device, which of course was created by the great Dr. Magnusson.

I killed the shit out of the last boss with the hivehand. And don't tell me you didn't use the Gluon or Tau gun. Interesting weapons like those need to make a come back.
I actually used the tripmines and satchels a lot, and I was always confused when I would watch people and they'd be like "I never found a use for these"
So now there is no dedicated Half life thread anymore:suicide:

tripmines were awesome to use against the assassins. I can agree that snarks may of been a bit too situational for my tastes but I still got use out of them from time to time
One feature: Slicing.
This is purely because I saw the trailer for MGR: Revengeance.
I found on my last playthrough of half-life 1 I used the Shotgun and crossbow alot, and the 9mm on smaller enemies and occasionally the 357 for sniping.
I've found the same habit has carried over to HL2 and so far is working surprisingly well though I have to ration my ammo at times.
Updated OP.
So... what do you think is going to be on the borealis?
So... what do you think is going to be on the borealis?
Most likely tech that the combine or resistance haven't mastered yet.
So... what do you think is going to be on the borealis?
poop
So... what do you think is going to be on the borealis?
At least something to do with teleportation, though that doesn't mean the main project on board is teleportation. Teleportation could simply for getting the project from A to B.
So... what do you think is going to be on the borealis?
cake XD
I'd like to think Cave's stored personality among other things.
I'd like to think Cave's stored personality among other things.
It'd be cool but I doubt that'll happen.
I mean, Eli's dying words were pretty much to destroy the Borealis at all costs. There's gotta be something pretty important/evil on there if a dying man's last wish is to destroy it and if the combine are after it.
So... what do you think is going to be on the borealis?
The TARDIS.
If the combine tried to enter aperture science and was unable to, I'd imagine that something on the borealis holds the key to defeating the combine remaining on Earth.
What if it's a completely different story line? I mean HL1 ends and then HL2 picks up 17 years later, it's not inconceivable that HL3 could pick up later. They'd just have to do like a little opening movie to smooth out the loose ends.

"Yeah so [sp] Eli died [/sp] and the rebels were about to launch their assault on the borealis, driving the combine off earth after cutting their portal off aaaannnnndddd 20 years later."
I'd like to think Cave's stored personality among other things.
I think I read somewhere that an early idea for Cave in portal 2 would be him in a primitive personality cube thing, found in old aperture. He would be begging to die/be unplugged but you use his box to jump to a higher platform (Like the companion cube in portal 1).
If anyone could find a citation for this, I would love to read it again.
I wouldn't be surprised if the technology on the Borealis has something to do with whatever the multiple Caves were using to access the Multiverse.

the multiverse was a gimmick to explain the test chamber dlc, i'd be very surprised if it was that

Maybe it has Eli's other leg inside.
Found the Cave Johnson AI cube thingy dialogue I mentioned in my previous post:
Cave: Greetings, friend. It's Cave Johnson, CEO of Aperture Science.
Cave: Down here! [pause] On the floor.
Cave: That's right! It's really me. My entire living consciousness, for all eternity, inside a machine.
Cave: Alone. On a dirty floor. In an abandoned room. At the bottom of a pit.
Cave: My life is torture, please kill me.
Glados: We don't have time for this.
Cave: Hold on. Is that you, Caroline?
Glados: Yes SIR, Mister Johnson! I'll have that report on your desk by four–thirty! [normal voice, horrified] What. In the hell. Was THAT.
Cave: You were my assistant! The heart and soul of Aperture Science! You don't remember?
Glados: No, Mister Johnson. I DON'T.
Cave: See, the science boys invented me a machine to house my consciousness in. But that sounded DANGEROUS, so I volunteered you to go first.
Like a food taster, except with your soul! [chuckling] Guess they must've found a use for you after all. Oh! Which reminds me. I do need you both to kill me.
Cave: Come on, be a sport and kill me. All you gotta do is pick me up.
Glados: Sure
Cave: Plug's in the back of me. Give me a good pull, it should pop right out.
Glados: Okay.
Cave: Now, before you say no, I want you to remember that I've lived a full life. Also, if this helps seal the deal, livin' in a computer this long's made me crazy. That's right: I am insane.
Glados: I said we'll do it.
Cave: Wait. I suppose tellin' you I'm not in my right mind could sway you to not unplugging me. Let me round back on the important parts: in a computer. Ceaseless torture. Monster in the eyes of god. So why don't you get on over here and unplug ol' Cave.
Glados: If you don't unplug him, I will.
//Called when the player kills the Cave cube
Cave: Ho ho! I can feel myself shuttin' down. Man, this is excitin'!
Glados: Maybe we can stand on him to climb up.
Cave: Oh! Room's gettin' dark. That's a good sign.
I'm comin' for you, Caroline!
Glados: Mister Johnson? You need to shut up.
Cave: Ten–four!
Cave: Here I go! The great beyond! Valhalla, home of Hercules! I can hear them winged chariots thunderin' over now!
//Called if player lingers after using the Cave corpse to escape
Glados: Goodbye, sir. May whatever tests await you on the other side either support or disprove your hypotheses.
Cave: Thank you, Caroline.
Cave: Alright! Too much jawin', not enough dyin'. Here I go! Ah.
//Called if player lingers after using the Cave corpse to escape
Glados: I'd... appreciate it... if we never... EVER talked about that... ever again.
...where was it ever confirmed as 17? Its pretty much only been described as 10 or 20 years, but most likely 20 considering Alyx was 3 at the time of the Black Mesa Incident

Half life 3 will be a new story line but Episode 3 (the next game in the series) will not be.
