so any thoughts about e3?
yeah it's a pretty cool show apart from the conferences
[sp]there's nothing else to discuss, everything has been thought of and this year's expectations are low[/sp]

You'd think expectations would be at an all time high. They've finished Source 2, and they have the steam box coming. This is quite literally the best E3 to release some tech demos of the new engine at the very least.

Yeah, we know, but they said they weren't announcing anything this year.
They've finished Source 2
what
and they have the steam box coming
confirmed not to be appearing this year
steam box coming.
Why is everyone using the name "steam box". It's wrong. A journalist took the
name out of his ass. The name Valve uses for its mini pc is "Bigfoot".
And I'd like to know where they said that they have finished the new engine.

They (probably) haven't. Gabe just confirmed it was a thing they were making.

I know that. Gabe already confirmed it twice that they are working on a new engine.

edit:nvm they changed its name
edit:nvm they changed its name
I'll assume you originally said Piston.
edit:nvm they changed its name
If you meant Piston, it's the name of the Xi3 Mini-PC. Valve only invests some money in them, but they aren't developing with them.

I was using it as a general term. I knew there was a name for it, but I didn't know it.

Honestly, I'm glad that was cut. They could make that look so much cooler with a new engine. I'd want to see all of the crap inside it just spill out.

I think that was cut from the game also because at that time it was too much for the computers, they wasn't strong enough in order to perform that.
I perfer the Citadal Explosion in EP1... much more epic and unique.

I'm sure it wouldn't be too bad, since it's in the skybox and all...
That explosion doesn't do the Citadel justice either. It's supposed to be miles high but the pieces that came towards the player were like lego bricks.
New Half-Life beta starting soon.
Half-Life (1) Beta.
For OSX and Linux.

A button in a shack destroys the citadel.
Gordon, you tried too hard.

Would that be why my HL is updating?
Yeah what was with that, earlier I saw a paused update for 200MB+.
yeah people are saying their hl1 is updating..
someone said 100mb other 450mb but it didn't update for me
Installing the Half Life SteamPipe beta now, I wonder if it runs.
Yeah, you can opt-in to the new beta here.
It will most likely only have affect on people that use OSX and Linux. I doubt there will be many (if any) changes for Windows users.

The explosion effect wasn't part of the actual unused sequence; It's just placed in that test map along with the destruction animation. I assume that if the animation was used in the final game, it probably would've made the debris more subtle.
But I too prefer it all just being incinerated instead of being scattered around like some crazy Lego Creator shizzle.

An in-game shot too.
So I logged on today to discover that Steam decided to install the HD models pack for half life (for some reason.) When I try to use the deactivation link it tells me its not currently activated and re-installing the game did nothing. Halp :v:
While the huge citadel bits do look silly, I think it'd be cool to find an enornous piece of the citadel in the forest, and you have to send a signal from it or something.
