I really want to see Barney's fate in Episode 3/HL3. We last saw him during EP1 just before the ending. He wasn't in EP2. It would make sense to see how Barney adapt to his new life on the run.
It might just be my old fanboy self getting excited but I still don't see any patch notes and it's been at least an hour.
Wouldn't valve at least tell you what happened to the original game?

he was in episode 2
he was in episode 2
Only in voice, and AFAIK Marc confirmed it was a mistake.
Citation:
I'm not sure, but when this was first pointed out, I think I concluded that a level designer had randomly triggered one of Barney's congratulatory lines among citizen lines in the garage shop area after you conclude the final strider battle. If that's the one you're talking about, then it was...an accident. Personally, once I heard about it, I pictured him hiding inside one of those crates in the area.
What it be...?

Also Counter Strike seems to have been updated as well, at least on the CDR. Marlamin, thoughts or insights?

It's probably something to do with the OSX/Linux ports being made.

Seeing as it was updated around the same time as other goldsrc things, It may be reasonable to assume it's just a linux/mac test/beta for goldsrc, if not the half life one.

I just noticed I don't have a crosshair in episode 2...
[editline]25th January 2013[/editline]
I want my damn crosshair back!
Woo, fixed it, wonder why it was off in the first place...

GoldSrc games are currently being surprise-ported to OSX and Linux. At the time of posting, Half-Life has been ported and confirmed working, and Counter-Strike is only missing a launch configuration and then that will work on OSX/Linux as well.
Expecting the other GoldSrc games based on the original HL to get ported soon as well.
EDIT: And yes, that app is related to the porting that's been going on.
Half Life being on 3 different OS?
probably more than that because of consoles
[editline]25th January 2013[/editline]
unless you count the console os's as just branches of linux

Restart steam. That's what I did, and it works for me.
Does HL2:DM crash for anyone else?

Barney? Phhftttt.
I want to see Lamar's future in EP3! Remember Gonarch/The big Mumma from Half-Life 1 on Xen? Yep... well that's the final formation of the lowly head-crab. I want to see Lamar, as being one of those, a big belly sack being supported by four legs. I can picture it now, Kleiner would probably have to put a leash on it or something.

Lamar, all grown up!

Do we know how a Headcrab turns into a Gonarch? How long does it take?
Restart steam. That's what I did, and it works for me.
yes it worked, but now HL folder (with the mods) is in the common folder, and the mods doesn't show in my library anymore
About to play the 2005 version of half-life 2 this christmas break. Fuck dat 2010 update. Made the game look different and I don't like different when it comes to my favorite game of all time.

EXTREMELY LATE I know, but apparently valve had texture issues. Tweak a few things in the vmts and the skies are back to normal! and for the lazy I'll upload a fix for this

Wasn't Lamar in the spaceship that you launch at the end of Ep2?
Wasn't Lamar in the spaceship that you launch at the end of Ep2?
the rocket goes through some time loop and he re-appears near the end of Ep3 as a Gonarch. You then have a Gonarch companion for the last bits of the game
Do we know how a Headcrab turns into a Gonarch? How long does it take?
I can't remember where I heard it, but I recall something saying that extremely few headcrabs make it to the Gonarch stage of their lives. It could take hundreds of years, as the headcrabs would have to feed off their hosts for however long until they have the sustenance to mature fully, not to mention the many dangers of dying on Xen.
Plus the fact that there's a massive missing link between Headcrab and Gonarch. We've never seen any headcrabs larger than a watermelon, we have no idea what comes after that or how long it takes.

I remember hearing that too, pretty sure it was first revealed in "Raising the bar".
And I forgot about Lamar in the shuttle... damn. There's always some cheap way around these things :P

I remember in Opposing Force, at the start where Adrian wakes up after being rescued by a scientist, that along the corridors there were three people on stretchers. One was badly wounded, the other had a head-crab on his face, and then the next was a fully fledged zombie. After a while one of the scientists said "fascinating, I wounder what the next stage of mutation looks like" (or something very similar). But your right, I don't think we were ever shown it.

Here's the scene I was talking about

The "next stage of mutation" is of course, gonome:

Gonome is after a headcrab zombie since it is more powerful than a regular zombie.
Just a heads up to anyone who may be confused: Half-Life on all platforms has been updated to enable the HD Pack by default. However, you cannot disable it. Also, these still aren't the fixed models. Valve are using the same broken, unpatched models because they refuse to update them with Gearbox's patch.
Also also, because of the way Valve implemented the HD Pack on Steam, you can no longer use custom models in normal Steam Half-Life, so you can't disable the HD models by brute force either.
I have to give Valve credit: when they decide to fuck over their own games, they really pull all the stops.
So HD half-life is now canon? I bet BMS Devs will be happy to hear they chose the wrong path when it came to recreating HL1 stock over HL1HD items :v:

I don't want HD models they look shittier than the classic ones to me
Good thing I backed up the GCF files, because even though all my games have automatic updates disabled Steam started downloading the new Half-Life anyway.

So first they fucked up HL2 and now they are doing same to HL1:suicide:
