not so sure about the mother but i think barney said something in ep1 about how gordon was raised by only a single parent???
i can confirm he wasnt an only child, pay attention to odessas dialogue with the vorts before you destroy the gunship
If what you say is correct then I must have missed out on all these hints. I don't remember getting that information from anywhere haha
For some reason I can only picture Gordon's family looking almost exactly like him, just in varying sizes. Thick glasses and HEV suits all around.
except his mother, i imagine gordons goatee, glasses and even a ponytail on a 50s woman in sunday dress
A HL1 and CS 1.6 update was just announced through the Linux beta group:

- Fixed clipboard not pasting enough characters under OSX and LINUX
- Fixed window title not matching the game you are launching
- Switched to using key scan code to better support alternate keyboard layouts
- Fixed double-click not working in the server browser
- Fixed keypad enter not submitting a console command
Via HLDS:
We have begun testing of Half-Life and Counter-Strike 1.6 on OSX and Linux. In support of this we have updated the dedicated server and converted it to using the new Steampipe system. You can access the new version via Steampipe right now, it remains network compatible with older clients.
To access the beta please follow the steamcmd instructions on our developer wiki, https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SteamCMD, Counter-Strike 1.6 dedicated server is currently available as appid 90 (and will continue to use this appid after full release).
The changes in this version are numerous (and some fixes are still in progress, I am looking at you redirect servers....). Under Linux we have moved forward to GCC 4.6 (from 2.95, heh) and are using a newer OS toolchain, so please do test these binaries on your machine.

if the next update does not fix the inability to disable HD models whatsoever i will officially lose hope in valve (and the video games industry as a whole) since i've been increasingly disappointed by their poor design decisions. it started with L4D2 and it's only got worse since then.
the focus of portal 2 purely on plot, instead of allowing you to experience as much or as little as you wanted (like portal 1), the retarded TF2 hat decisions, the destruction of the ease of modding with L4D2, (the workshop is simply too little, too late.) the decimation of any kind of news of HL, and now they're shitting on their star game by FORCING you to use a third-party modelpack that does not fit the art style or design of the game as a whole.
the world textures do not fit the HD models whatsoever, the voices and sounds don't fit either, and the replacement sounds that come with the HD pack sound like arse. i am thoroughly disillusioned with Valve as a whole, and now the fact that they're simply refusing to listen to the overwhelming community demand just spells nothing but bad tidings.
"but why do they need to listen to the community"
because this decision was absolutely stupid and the community is right and i have yet to meet someone who approves of forcing the HD pack
[editline]29th January 2013[/editline]
not to mention that this is the game that made valve. it is a relic, a shining pillar of game design and FPS games as a whole, it deserves far more respect and care than this.
i think you're getting too mad over something that's in beta (if you actually knew what steampipe was you'd know why this happened)
I'm just looking forward to Opposing FOrce and Blue Shift.
It's been far too long...
I don't get why people hate the HD pack so much, though I do get why people dislike it being forced. I dislike it being forced as well since I prefer custom skins and such.

It's because valve is literally making it the default look. Unless you have the original disk, there will be no way to get the original skins. Plus, the models valve has are buggy, and outdated. Yep. Even when they force models on us, they don't even have the courtesy to make them look good. Along with this, the new update will make it difficult, if not remove the feature to mod the original half life.
So basically, valve decided to screw us over in a one whole package.

Really? I haven't ever seen any of the things you've described, and I've been playing the game since 04'.
i think you're getting too mad over something that's in beta
So maybe the Half-Life 2 Mac update has simply been in beta for over two years and still has a chance of being fixed?
This wouldn't be the first time Valve has crapped on the Half-Life titles. Steam Blue Shift still doesn't accept any custom models (hence the need for Blue Shift: Unlocked) and still suffers from a widely known game-breaking bug within the opening chapter. Opposing Force still doesn't have its proper soundtrack. The HD Pack on Steam is still an outdated and broken version. These issues and many more have existed quite literally for over seven years now. Valve knows (or knew, they since probably stopped caring and forgot) of these problems, but it's clear that they're never, ever, ever going to do anything about them.
What you're merely brushing off as "it's just a beta!" has the very real possibility of becoming a lingering, unaddressed issue we'll be lamenting over in a decade's time.

i still feel that valve is making increasingly bad design choices and that they need to be pointed out so they can improve on them.
i guess i'm biased because my daily life is usually comprised of previewing something, then questioning and pointing out problems and facets of it. i should probably take some time off.

this is also my fear. especially after the messup that was the OB update for Hl2.

I agree with people hating it being forced, that is pretty lame. I was just wondering why people disliked the models. Though I guess that is preference and the bugginess

I'll eat my hat.
Also I imagine Ross Scott is going to be thoroughly pissed about HL1 being forced over to HD.

He uses Half Life Source for Freeman's Mind, so he's good for now.
No amount of compatibility settings, official patches, and fan patches will make Half-life WON work on Windows 8, it seems. It just hangs every time I start a new game/go to hazard course.

Could be the Godforsaken Linux update, it fucked up all my games, and I'm on Windows!

I'm pretty sure he was referring to a* non-steam version of Half-Life.
also in the sacrifice campaign for l4d2, there is a map with a tank inside of a crashed train, and the first thing that came in my mind while I played this was Super 8, which the teaser had been released some months before, I don't know if it was a just a coincidence or not... but I never saw anyone talking about this...
Late to aid on this statement, but does anyone remember the interactive teaser from Portal 2 for Super 8, as well? :v:

"oh boy! another mediocre follow up to a terrible shooter series from that phony hack company called Valve"
where does deathmatch classic come into things? I played it at a friends house and i don't see how it's half life.
where does deathmatch classic come into things? I played it at a friends house and i don't see how it's half life.
it's a tribute to quake
half-life was built on a modified version of the quake engine
where does deathmatch classic come into things? I played it at a friends house and i don't see how it's half life.
It doesn't, it's just a fun non-canon multiplayer deathmatch.
I'm pretty sure he was referring to non-steam version of Half-Life.
Yeah. Anyone think they can help me out?
I've tried the final patch for retail, the 1.1.1.2 Steamless patch, both ran as an administrator and the retail install in Windows 98 compatibility mode (and without). I've also tried running all of the HL exes provided by these installations in even more compatibility modes, to no avail. The only way I managed to find these patches was by googling "half life WON" and reading about them in YouTube comments. It's hard to find ANYTHING.

too bad its not that popular

It basically is multiplayer quake with different player models, and a crowbar instead of an axe(I think that's the original weapon). Its valves way of thanking ID for letting them use the quake engine.

I don't see any way to make the HD pack optional. It looks like Roger Waters has officially lost hope in Valve.
tis a sad day today now that roger has left us
