Well damn, JJ just ruined the ending of Jaws for me.
Gabe says he'd like to work with JJ on a Half-Life or Portal movie!

OH BOY OH BOY

also
JJ "There's an idea for a game that we'd really like to work with Valve on."
Also a better quote: ""We're super excited about that and we also want to talk about making movies, either a Portal movie or a Half-Life movie." Newell said."
Movie or Videogame? Half Life three please.
"Are you trying to escape? [chuckle] Things have changed since the last time you left the building. What's going on out will make you wish you were back in here. I have an infinite capacity for knowledge, and even I'm not sure what is going on outside. All I know is I'm the only thing standing between us and them. Well, I was. Unless you have a plan for building some supercomputer parts in a big hurry, this place isn't going to be safe much longer."

It's funny/scary to think that the automated personnel of the Aperture Science Enrichment Center was able to stave off a Combine attack until Chell woke up.

I think "What we are actually doing here, we are recapitulating a series of conversations going on. We reached the point that we decided to do more than talk." Newell said is even more interesting
the player can watch the scene... but here, the player in charge just runs around the lab and throws around objects instead of paying attention to the story.
True.

I hope that doesn't mean.... Something else.

I'm fine with them having sex if it ends up in amazing babies. :v:
True.
of course it's true
because that's an exact explanation of a situation that a player can encounter
He wouldn't have said it if it wasn't true
I'm kinda disappointed they chose Portal or Half-Life over TF2 or L4D.

no way

You can't be serious.

I think TF2 wouldn't be well-served by a live-action film. I think it could only be done by the SFM crew.
Valve needs to conclude the HL2 story before they start making movies.
I don't really see a whole lot of opportunity to make a movie out of Portal. Half-Life is another story. It can be done, but for me it has to be perfect. Half-Life just has that type of atmosphere and story that only fits its own shoes, so it can be really easy to fuck it up. But Gabe's working on it too so I guess I wouldn't have to worry about that.
I'm also just aching for a real L4D movie, I remember how exciting and tense the L4D1 intro movie was back when it came out.

I feel that a Portal film could work quite well, it could be about the actual rise of Aperture and some of Cave's crazy ideas and all that cool stuff

Left 4 Dead was based on cliché zombie movies though. Making it a playable game was the selling point, making it into a movie would defeat the objective - plus we'd end up with yet another zombie thing to watch.
I'd like to see a Portal film revolving around the creation and activation of GLaDOS and the subsequent disasters and eventual abandonment of the facility. Might avoid some of the silliness that plagued Portal 2. I can't really see J.J. Abrams making a movie about happy squeaking robot buddies solving puzzles together.

If they had really good actors for the L4D1 cast, that would already be enough to make me watch it. It's not some "cliche zombie movie" to me, really, Left 4 Dead is the only exception I would make when it comes to zombie movies.

Left 4 Dead's framing device is supposed to be a zombie movie, so...
What caused the Xen lifeforms to appear across earth? Was it happening right after the Resonance Cascade, and over the course of HL1?
Half-life: Movie about how the earth was invaded and the 7 hour war. Epic fights between whole armies against the combine empire as well as a normal suburban family trying to kill a single headcrab. I can see this being filmed in the style of district 9, documentary-ish maybe?
Portal: Movie about aperture working on crazy science stuff and how it eventually leads to a sentient AI that kills everyone. It would explore the moral and ethical applications of science's limits. Would be interesting to see.

"Half-Life: LaMarr's Very Busy Day".
If they make a Portal movie, J.K Simmons has to be in it.

Episode 3 will be actually a movie, not a game

A Portal mockumentary might work too.
More on the movies.

"So, what do you make here?"
"Shower Curtains."
"Why does shower curtain development require seventeen thousand gallons of neurotoxin attached to a vaporizer that feeds into the facility's ventilation system?"
"...I'm not sure I understand the question."
If there was a Half Life movie, it should definitely be somewhere in the Half Life 1 area, there's a lot of potential there
