My friend was asked if he wanted to pre-purchase Episode 3 when we were at Gamestop today, they said it was going to be released in 2013. I managed to sneak a peak, and saw that the date was 30. 06. 2013.
We couldn't believe it, and we still don't, because there are no news about this whatsoever.
So, why did Gamestop say that it's going to be released next year?
Considering how Valve is, any number of these rumors could have been true at one point, but soon became null and void.

What, are you saying an employee just wandered up and said
"Hello there young man, would you like to preorder Episode 3?"

He bought a game and the employee kept bugging him about preordering stuff and then when he suddenly asked if he wanted to preorder Episode 3 we were too interested to just turn it down. It was on their list of releases and everything.

I'd say the employee was just a dope.

No, I figured it was just something wrong on their end, but still... Gamestop doesn't usually do this, at least from my experience.
Recognise a particular robot voice in this?

They make up a release date to convince people to pre-order and just change it when that date passes. In June this year it was 31/12/2012, now it's 30/06/2013.
In 6 months' time they'll change it to 31/12/2013.
-snip, this won't end well-
lol guys i dont like ea am i cool yet

I've already seen this happen, so before anyone tries to connect this to anything Valve, the director of the movie called with Gabe to ask if he could use the GLaDOS voice for the movie.
Ellen McLain is indeed voicing this, and the director is a huge fan of Valve games. His dream project is to work together with Valve on a movie project.
You might have heard of the director, Guillermo del Toro.

And since it's still a long way off, however much people are willing to pay for preorders is basically free money for them.

They must know it's in production and they might've gotten the O.K from Valve to do preorders at a specific price, probably fifty bucks.

They don't have to know either. It just has to be a real game they'll pre-order for you if it ever comes out.

Then how would they collect the money for it?

The same way they take any preorder.

They took a DNF pre-order 10 years before it came out.
Pre-order Release Dates
GameStop.com works tirelessly with game publishers to ensure accurate release dates on our site. Occasionally, publishers run into problems during the production of a game and the release date must be changed. Sometimes dates move forward; more often they move back, and frequently they get changed more than once.
If a game is scheduled for release far in the future, the vendor may not even give us a date. In those cases we rely on the collective wisdom of our buying staff to estimate a date based on their knowledge of the industry and the vendor's history.
We guarantee that we will always post the best release date information available at the time of our posting. We know that you want that hot new game yesterday, and we want to be the company that gets it to you quicker than anyone else.
They don't actually need anything more than a guy who has power and heard a rumor to put it in their system.

The question is, did they honor that receipt?
The question is, did they honor that receipt?
Yes, and Gearbox also awarded him a big Duke collection on the same day. And the whole ordeal was recorded by ScrewAttack:

So the moral of the story is: You better pre-order Episode Three today, because it's bound to be worth it come 2022!
If Valve is working on a new engine for HL3/EP3, then it better have streamed loading like plenty of other modern games.
For a game that has immersion as one of the major things touting for it, it's quite the immersion break to constantly hit loading screens and sit through them. Not exactly a problem in Half Life 1 for me since loading screens feel more like framerate hiccups than loading screens with how quickly they go, but boy oh boy in Half Life 2 and beyond with how frequently load screens appear and how long they last.
I mean, it could probably be solved Minerva style by making individual zones/maps as small as possible, but an immersion-breaking load screen is still an immersion-breaking load screen.

It'll have all of that and a few groundbreaking things like the first source.
Lets brainstorm what those features could be...

I think we've already had lots of posts with what we want in source 2.
But hey, why not.

Definitely more human input, Valve was researching sign language a while back, and have been experimenting with things like this.
Maybe full Kinect support or something?
100% Guaranteed to be nothing but what the hell i'll post it anyway

It's funny because after all this joke shit nobody will notice once Valve actually does something themselves.

I'd like to think that's for a deaf character rather than input, I tihink that's the popular interpretation anyway.

Why would you post it if it's 100% guaranteed to be nothing?
