Oh please, Opposing Force is where it's at
I can't stand that style
because i'm different. Also, all the music in half life is pretty good. How can one choose? I mean Vortal combat was the loudest, but does that make it better than any of the quieter ones?

Kinda dumb but I had an oh shit moment when I heard this in Half-Life 1.
I love this one and the place which is played at.

OH and this GMan's "theme"
Found an interesting little oversight: [t]http://puu.sh/22Hc6[/t] The mapper forgot to remove the highway off-ramp from the under bridge map when they changed the surface bridge into a train track.
Wrong thread? (or not but it looks like you were looking for the enhancement thread).
Wrong thread? (or not but it looks like you were looking for the enhancement thread).
Nah I posted it there too because it's relevant to their work. It's relevant to this thread because people are interested in scraps from pre-release designs, in this case, the bridge originally being part of the highway before being hastily changed to a train bridge very late in development. That's just another piece of evidence they forgot to take out, the first piece being the Highway 17 map showing the road go over the bridge. The HL2 leak version of the map confirms that it was originally a highway bridge.
very nice find
the first piece being the Highway 17 map showing the road go over the bridge.
I never noticed that
i have sad news to impart. valve have updated HL1 to use steampipe. this is terrible news for three reasons. 1. mods will not work out of the box anymore. mod installers will go to the wrong folder. and any already installed mods will need to be placed into the new HL1 folder. that is presuming it still uses the same file structure and DLL's, which i personally doubt. 2. you will no longer be able to successfully share your PC with another person who has their own steam acc, as instead of being in steamapps/yourusername, hl1 is now in the common folder, meaning any change user X enacts will effect user Y. 3. i have heard rumor that the dll's no longer work with mods. i have yet to confirm this but i would not think it unlikely. truly we live in the darkest of days
I never noticed that
Yep, the very obvious bridge on the left side, you can see the road leading to and from it. I've always wondered why it was change, although the reasoning is probably something simple as "trains are cool" :v:

I already played Blue Shift Unlocked.
If you point out every misplaced polygon in any game, you're going to be there for awhile
I'll point out an incorrect texture under a door. map d1_town_01;setpos 202.247787 426.161377 -3263.968750;setang 11.967442 -89.727058 0.000000 map d1_town_01a;setpos 203.091187 287.597534 -3263.968750;setang 22.457289 -89.726204 0.000000 Also, incorrect balcony textures on d3_c17_04 (setpos -273.102081 -6343.997070 343.565369;setang -34.782764 155.885620 0.000000). Another misaligned texture under a door: map d1_town_02;setpos -3681.241699 -182.184708 -3519.968750;setang 56.776577 -152.317612 0.000000. Properly aligned on the next level where it is barely visible.
Seeing as we're still posting music, and this is the half life and portal thread:
Portal soundtrack reminds me of playing Portal for the first time in 2007.
ive always hated the whole techno soundtrack thing half life 1 and 2 had going but thats just because 1998 and 2004

The only thing in HL1 that strikes me as pure 90's that you couldn't really do nowadays is the green electricity bolts that shoot out when something teleports. Anything green and luminous looks a bit tacky nowadays; bright green radioactivity, green lightning, green LEDs in computer cases (or at least that yellow-green that you see a lot).

I mean sure, you couldn't pull it off today - no, you'd need fancy refractive shaders and the other stuff you see in half life 2. But it goes pretty far to show you that, okay, this is alien energy and is probably gonna do something pretty bad. The green radioactivity is unrealistic but such a trope of sci fi that it's hard to not do :v: And in the case of the music, I really enjoy the half life series soundtracks altogether. I'm sad Kelly Bailey left but I hope (am fairly certain that) Mike Morasky will carry on the trend of distorted electric guitars and sweeping synth leads.

Portal 1 soundtrack is one of my all time favourite soundtracks
Wow, all of my Half-Life 1 mods are completely broken, and Cry of Fear is even more broken.. Thank you Valve!
I really love this one. For me, it just can't get better then this.
