holy shit why don't any of the retail city maps look that good
especially the lighting is much better than in the final game
well keep in mind, that when the beta/alpha was leaked, they pretty much restarted from scratch.
Plus that was an E3 build, to show fancy graphics

no they didn't. can we please dis-spell this rumor. the leak's storyline was disposed of LONG before it was leaked, the leak was a content dump that contained the E3 test build of the game and a ton of other dev content.
I really love this one. For me, it just can't get better then this.

You waited seven years to make a post?
Bravo.
How come this song hasn't been posted yet?
Wow, all of my Half-Life 1 mods are completely broken, and Cry of Fear is even more broken.. Thank you Valve!
i like how people rated him dumb
ok let me tell you this. all mods are indeed broken. if you boot them up and try to open the UI you will get a CTD and/or a DLL error, this is because valve changed the core DLL's pretty drastically last night, and as such mods no longer support them properly.
and do not respond saying "it works for me" unless you have been prompted to update to the new file format, because if you have not been prompted, you are one of the few people who have not received the update yet. it appears that some got it, and some didn't, as per usual with steam updates.
[editline]15th February 2013[/editline]
i have had the exact same problem with my mod. which uses the default half-life dlls, as well. showing that this is not something inherent to mod coding. i've tried copying the valve folder's dll's, i have tried extracting the GCF dlls, i have even tried using a mod's dlls.
[editline]15th February 2013[/editline]
unless your half-life prompts you to convert to a "more efficient format" on attempting to boot HL1, and then takes a few minutes to convert your folder into the common directory, you are not updated.
Yes, all mod's are dead, like Cry of Fear, etc...
VALVe has fucked up everything this week : firing everyone, fucking up the fanbase by fucking up the mod's... What the HELL are they doing???
it's probably ironic of me to say this but our best bet would be to not overreact and instead duck down for a little bit and see if valve fix it. if not then it's time to start dragging bodies out of graves.
I am sending a ticket to steam support because I really want them to notice this.
It's not only mods but it's impossible to play any goldsrc games because of the new steam client as well
as seen in these shots:

This is just part of what's wrong with it, I've got texture swaps and flashing textures as well in Half-Life 1 and Opposing Force.
Mods start using content from other mods so the weapon selection HUD is broken, weapons use sounds from another mod.

It was a tech demo, they put 10x more work into it than they would an average street.

holy fuck think of all the TFC players. TFC is going to fucking die off.

I've played the leak and I can confirm that the majority of the maps are in fact incomplete versions of the final maps. Some of them are still missing, some are only blocked out, others are near complete, and some sections are switched around, but for the most part everything was finalised and was in the process of being finished.

i can't tell if you're agreeing or disagreeing here but suffice to say valve were already in the process of creating retail HL2 by the time the leak saw the light of day. while i'm not surprised they turned around HL1 in a year i seriously doubt they could have made HL2 in the timespan between october 2003 and november 2004. there is a lot of work that goes into disc publishind and such that i seriously doubt would have been accomplishable in that time.

because it's more so ambient sound effects than a song. Like the man hack background sounds and sounds from the anti-mass spectrometer.
It´s a shame that we will never know how was the chapter cut that ended as Half-Life: Lost Coast.
It's not Valve's fault that your mods are broken; they have been very vocal about the upcoming changes making sure everyone was aware about what was happening. It's up to the mod developers to maintain and upkeep their projects.

yes because things that were made in 1998 and haven't had any kind of major update since 2008 totally needed changing. yep, this is totally the modmaker's fault and not valve's.
One thing I did notice in this Half-Life update is that the mouse feels a bit odd like they added smoothing or something, but I already got used to it. When going through loading times, instead of just having the text "loading" overlay, the screen turns black which is kinda jarring considering how many loading times there are.
I do like how you can switch the HD models on and off in the options though.
not to mention the fact that my mod (WHICH USES THE DEFAULT HALF-LIFE DLL FILES, WHICH I EVEN RE-EXTRACTED) doesn't work. it's obvious that mod functionality has been totally broken.
Does anyone know the e-mail for the Portal 2 team?
Does Portal 2 still HAVE a team?
Tested:
USS Darkstar
The Trap
Leaked ThreeWave CTF
All work fine with the beta.

this isn't a beta update. are you absolutely certain your half-life folder is in your Steamapps/common directory?
Sector Sweep is my favourite track. When it starts playing, it puts me back in a time when I played HL2RP, and hid from sector sweeps, or fought against Civil Protection units as they raided the bar my resistance cell controlled.

I know from playing them that Azure Sheep and They Hunger are also working fine.
this isn't a beta update. are you absolutely certain your half-life folder is in your Steamapps/common directory?
I am absolutely certain, I'm in "Beta - Beta" beta, I don't have D3D renderer and 1920x1080 resolution, I have a tick to toggle HD pack and addons, and Half-Life is in common folder.
i'm perplexed, for some people most mods are broken, for others they work totally fine, and for me i can barely boot any goldsrc games past the main menu whatsoever.
what the fuck

They're using the correct files now and everything seems to be fine again but Sweet Half-Life is still bugged for me at least at this part

just JUMP OVER already aaaa
EDIT: oh there we go, there's a patch the creator released just for that table shit. Works when I load my save but not when I load the map, whatever close enough.
I have a Half-Life 2 retail CD box set that I purchased in 2004. It is the one with Alyx Vance's face on the front cover. When I open up the sleeve on the front, I see a beta C-17 with metro cops wearing beta armor and beta citizens. Was this image changed in later releases? Does anyone else have this oddity?
i can't tell if you're agreeing or disagreeing here but suffice to say valve were already in the process of creating retail HL2 by the time the leak saw the light of day.
I was agreeing, in fact you basically said what I just said but in a different way.

Mine has that, and I got it back in around March '06, which is also my join date (gmod is what started me on the HL series and PC gaming in general)
Bit late, but I'm sad there was no love for this;

Look, Valve wanted to move to Linux this required updating and modifying all of their games to get them to work. They opened the whole process to the public back in December, you could have easily opted into the beta. Just take a look at all the HL1 issues that have been opened and reviewed since then. Obviously some of these changes are quite large and were bound to break any mods. And to those of you who think Valve doesn't care just take a look at Alfred Reynolds github profile, they are being very proactive about issues their games have. As I said before it is up to the mod creators to be proactive about maintaining their projects.
