Just now I wanted to look up some HL2DM map strategies on the Overwiki, but it seems that there's only a list of official maps, without any real in-depth information about them. Considering how many people still play HL2DM online, I personally think there should be more detailed articles for each map about the layout, weapon placement, common strategies, etc. Anyone agree?
It's a medium-paced nonprofessional arena game; there's not much to say in terms of strategy. It's mostly just playing the maps enough to learn the layouts and knowing how and when to outflank people.
Reasons why people think it will be called Half-Life 3: -Gabe replies to questions that include that name -It's been in development a really long time It would be a really dumb move to completely ignore the trilogy structure that they made a big deal out of and it would be confusing to anyone who hasn't followed the ongoing saga of the game's development. A lot of people who just finished Episode Two would be wondering why there isn't a third one despite the constant references to "three episodes" in the commentary and in the press.
It would even dumber to have their new engine atop "Episode Three" considering its a 6-8 hour episode (which all the episodes were, Ep3 would've likely followed suit).
It would even dumber to have their new engine atop "Episode Three" considering its a 6-8 hour episode (which all the episodes were, Ep3 would've likely followed suit).
Episode has nothing to do with the length of the game. You know what would be actually dumb? Calling it Half-Life 3 when all they have ever said about the nature of the trilogy of episodes, new story arcs and the future of the series contradicts it. [editline]19th February 2013[/editline] They should have ditched the Episode subtitle, though. Aftermath, Outland and Borealis (or whatever ep3's previous title was) would have been much better. And probably have caused less confusion.
I'd prefer those original names too. Imagine you launch Steam some day and your Episodes got renamed to this.

Of course this doesn't really mean anything.
LETS NOT TALK ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT TO CALL IT EP3 OR 3 JUST STOP NO MORE.
Anyone agree?
not really. there's no stratagem or tactic that really helps you in HL2DM since boosting/bhopping is pretty much impossible and aiming isn't incredibly necessary. it's all a matter of situations and realizing when you've lost a fight or noticing who has the environmental advantage. it's far more situational than technique-based.
LETS NOT TALK ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT TO CALL IT EP3 OR 3 JUST STOP NO MORE.
True that. I mean it's obvious that it's going to be Half Life 2: Revengance.
The fact that it's called ep3.fgd kinda proves it's old. The next Half Life will be Half Life 3, not Episode 3.
Nothing at all even suggests that, other than random speculation by people who think because the game has been in development for years it will have to be called Half Life 3.
Gabe stated long ago that the episodic games were an experiment for the series. They were specifically meant so that a release would appear a lot more frequent. Tell me, do you see episodes on TV, that stop for 6 years, and then just start again? Would make no sense for them to call it episode 3 to be honest. My bet is that they developed all new content from guns-npcs-scenery, etc. The only way i'd accept an "Episode 3" slapped at the end of the title, would be if it was literally how HL2 Ep2 ended, with the same exact weapons and not much changes with the characters visually, on source 1, etc. Which would be very unfortunate. It's common sense really, HL2 was great for it's time. There is no way they are gonna make next-gen content, new weapons, use a new engine, and slap Episode 3 at the end, it makes no sense.
It will be called Episode 3 because it is part of the Half life 2 story arc, not a new story which it being called Half Life 3 would imply. Gabe said the episodic approach to development wasn't working, not that the next game wouldn't be called Episode 3.
LETS NOT TALK ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT TO CALL IT EP3 OR 3 JUST STOP NO MORE.
guys dont fucking talk about half life in the fucking half life thread FUCK STOP I mean I know we've repeated this subject like a jillion times by now but there's nothing left to talk about.
willerin i think the reason people don't want to discuss it is because it's a horseshit discussion with no honest answer
Everybody knows the next installment will be "Half Life 2 Rises"
Everybody knows the next installment will be "Half Life 2 Rises"
Half-Life Returns Half-Life Forever Half-Life and Robin
willerin i think the reason people don't want to discuss it is because it's a horseshit discussion with no honest answer
then people dont have to discuss it going into the thread and telling people to stop talking about something completly relevant to the thread is worse than just posting a new topic.
So how about this PS4 reveal tomorrow? Think we'll see any next-gen Valve games?
sources confirm next half life game is called half life 2: triple the boogaloo
So, isn´t new?
Guys, they aren't gonna call it it 3 anything. They are just gonna skip to 4, everyone knows gabe can't count to 3. Lets switch the conversation around. What was your favorite part of HL2? I loved the coast.
(Stars of Blood) I don't believe it entirely, concept artwork was actively being created between 2008-2012. That's a heck of a lot of time to just throw away.
It was already cancelled in 2011 because that was the time when the first concepts appeared. And if you work on a game, you don't let people make photos of an unannounced game. And you also don't hang the pictures into a hall, if it's a game in development.
So how about this PS4 reveal tomorrow? Think we'll see any next-gen Valve games?
What kind of question is that? Since they are working on a next gen engine, then yes, of course they will release games for those consoles, but there won't be any exclusive titles. And yes, if the engine is finished, then all games they develop are "next-gen", but that doesn't mean that we will see anything groundbreaking like Half Life 1 to Half Life 2 (Graphics wise).
There is SOB concept art from 2012, and I meant if we'll see anything tomorrow.
Yeah, there appeared new concept art in 2012. But the first concept appeared a year earlier. And if people were free to make photos, you can be sure, that they didn't continue to work on it. In an interview it was said, that those concepts were just some concepts made by them and weren't related to anything important. And ok, then I misunderstood the question with the next gen game. I don't think they announced any title.
I think he meant during the reveal.
A quick flash of Episode 3 during a montage of different games for the new console?
A quick flash of Episode 3 during a montage of different games for the new console?
Maybe something like this...
Half-Life Returns Half-Life Forever Half-Life and Robin
The first Half Life will be renamed "Half Life Begins" Half Life 2 will be christened "The Half Life" [editline]19th February 2013[/editline] And besides, its "Half Lie and Robin Walker"
What if they made Half-Life 2: Episode 3, then released Half-Life 3 six months later?
What if we all just not worry about something we have absolutely no way of knowing about?
Anyone remember how Episode One was orignally called Half-life 2: Aftermath? [t]http://users1.ml.mindenkilapja.hu/users/famous_games/uploads/half_life_2_episode_one_aftermath.jpg[/t] Do you think that it was considered as an Episode at that point? And What if the time that they have taken to develop the next installment gave way to 2 games? A shorter "episode" which would be episode 3 and finish off the events of the Hl2 arc or something, and then Half-Life 3 which would get released at a later time? Just some thoughts.
The leak says gluon gun oh baby yes
