Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series - My every day life

I really didn't grind at all and I'm up to what I've been told is the second last dungeon and am getting absolutely destroyed.
Apparently I've just been lucking my way through the game so far. I kept wondering why I'd always found just the standard shadows in a dungeon way more difficult than the final boss. Turns out i'm lucky.
An example of this was when I fought [sp]Shadow Teddie[/sp] and ended up soloing him after a single Mabufula wiped out everyone but Yu. Turns out i'd inadvertently walked into the fight with an ice absorb persona and due to the boss' AI being very skewed towards spamming Mind Charged ice attacks after wasting time trying to silence me meant that the only attacks he ever actually damaged me with, which were those Heat Waves (or whatever they were called) left me on like 30 HP, i'd immediately be healed back to full.
Ended up running out of SP fast and just finishing him off from half HP with rush mode, stopping only for those charged hand attacks.
This kind of crap's been happening to me all game apparently and i'm only in my late LV 50s and up to [sp]Adachi/FogGodGuy[/sp] and getting completely wrecked.
I'm going to have to do a lot of grinding now.
As I said, I'm well aware other MegaTen games are more difficult by rather large degrees, but even having played some of those I prefer a more relaxed play.
Can't knock you for that. Maybe I just enjoy punishment more than I thought
So, what the fuck is wrong with Yukiko, she only attacks now. Only, straight up, attacks. I even switched tactics to heal/support, and she only, fucking, attacks. What the hell?
That's why I just set everyone to direct command.
Oh goodie, she used Agidyne, it's not like Yosuke is at critical health or anything
Try playing Persona 1, where you spend hour after hour running through samey-looking corridors. The story and music are still good, but god if it isn't tedious.
But even other than this, I'm reminded of how nuts the soundtrack was back then.
You try listening to this for more than 15 minutes straight:

Why aren't you using direct commands?
So, is Nocturne pretty good?

Pretty good? It's amazing. Though rather brutal, despite it being rather frustrating I'd call it a must play for RPG fans.

P4U Socal regionals top 8 on right now.
Why aren't you using direct commands?
This, I can't think of a reason why you wouldn't set every party member to it.
The PS2 versions of P3 don't have Direct command. Only Persona 4 and P3P do.
Also, there is people who ignore that said option even exist, be it because they didn't pay attention to the tutorial or something else.
But yeah, if you have that tactic, enable it on everyone. It'll save you lots of troubles and tears. (marin fucking karin)
Well, up to this point it's worked well enough for me, the characters have been otherwise intelligent. Except when Yukiko broke for several months.
Just beat Persona 4 [sp]True Ending and stuff[/sp].
The game is actually very manageable if you simply invest into support skills for everyone and grab a persona with a lot of nulls, absorbs and Evade Elements :v:
A lot of the time, I feel the enemy's undying frustration when all their attack either miss, get blocked or get eaten for health. Then top that with Defense Up on allies and Attack Down on Enemies.

And it's gonna take me fucking forever to get used to.
Oh yeah, not having direct command is a scary thought.
Golden spoiled me so bad with that.

There's a lot in FES for me to get used to, not just the AI control.
So do you actually use Chie in your party? It seems like her useful abilities (God's Hand) don't come in until somewhere past Level 60.
I think that's supposed to be a little secret about her, she gets over shadowed by later joining characters.

I try, I really do. But near the end, she just started falling behind. She doesn't get any stronger Bufus past Mabufulu, and like you said, her strongest melee move is God Hand, which comes a lot later. In Golden, she does eventually get an amazing move [sp]called Dragon Shuffle, which basically Heat Risers the entire party.[/sp]
But man, she can end up getting crazy crit chains and her Follow Attack is an instant kill. That and she's such a cutie.
I still miss her old voice so much.

i can't stand the thought of my chie being injured in battle
I do like her Galactic Punt, though. It always seems to kick in just when I need it on the enemy I'm most worried about.

Downing two guys then having the third, weaknessless one, get punted out of the fight is always a treat.
I still miss her old voice so much.
I missed it at first, but the new one's somehow grown on me. I might even like it more than the old voice now.
mmmmeeeeeeeerrrge

I had absolutely no problem using her as a teammate for the entire game. Then again I'd always make sure I am at least 5 levels ahead of the boss. Honestly, grinding in this game didn't feel like a chore to me at all, in fact I found it fun.
Also Chie = best romance option.

And that's without mentioning "The Answer" dungeons.
Wich reminds me: I've been stuck in P3FES's "The answer" for like.. a year. The boss rounds are reardedly hard in comparisson to the regular fights in the previous floors, and those are already hard enough.
And now that I got so used to P3P (I managed to get a copy working with an emulator) It's even worse. I think I'll never be able to finish it.
Yeah after I beat Persona 3, I started The Answer, and just felt eeehhh.
Then I just watched someone on youtube.
Did you guys fight the contrarian king in P4 in yukikos castle? that was a frustrating as fuck boss fight because the rampage attack wipes out your entire squad unless you had slime with resist physical(I didn't) or were lucky enough to pick guard at the right time.
The thing that Golden will spoil you with the most? Being able to choose inherited skills in fusions.
I swear, I spent like 40 fucking minutes re-making fusions until I had all the skills I wanted inherited...
I don't feel that Persona 4 Golden spoiled me with choosing inherited skills. [sp] Devil Survivor did that for me. [/sp]
As for the Contrarian King, I got incredibly lucky with Shuffle Time and got Null Phys really early so he was drop-dead easy for me on my first runthrough.

I actually liked it, it's just that's it's so hard, specially if you played The journey in normal/easy. And the lack of Direct command makes it worse.
I haven't looked for any spoilers yet, I still have a bit of hope that I'll finish it one day.
I dont remember having any trouble against Contrarian King, but mind you, I was on easy :v:
