I tried this game, pretty cool.
I've yet to beat phase 3 of the boss though.

2 fast firing ion things (the one that starts with engi ship) + fire beam + 2 attack drones (and 1 defense drone for missiles) = So much rape. At-least for me it did.
Got about halfway through, had a decent attachment with my five man crew. But then we ran into a mantis ship. Ion cannons disables the shields, weapons, and the doors. A boarding party destroyed the medbay and the cockpit. Then a massive missile hit the main battery and the Kestrel was no more.
I stood up, saluted my dead men, and sang Эй, ухнем!

Yeah, even if the number of empty rooms and layout is fixed, I'd like to be able to shuffle rooms around to put them where i want them, maybe having size of room dictate any bonuses, in a 4 square room things being more effective than if they were in a 2 square room etc etc.
Imagine a coop version of this game.
Co-op version of this, but its a space station and periodially events happen, solar flare, nivasions, pirate attacks....

But a co-op version of this still in a ship but instead of "run the fuck away: the game" you patrol one extremely large sector that is randomly generated.
Now should Everyone control one crewmember on a single ship or should everyone have their own ship and have a small fleet?

Both. You can either choose to man a ship or join a friend to control a crew member. If you control a crew member, you should get upgrades like a ship can get.

or maybe you still control one crew member but if you board and take out the crew of another ship or find a derelict you can bring it into your fleet for another player to control.

Fuck, I managed to use the Engi ship all the way to beating the Flagship the first time. Then as they left, I realised I had a huge fucking fire in my Medbay and the surrounding areas.
I had no chance. My crew couldn't heal and it was spreading with everyone already on low health. Never underestimate the value of the Medbay.

Yeah, there's actually a few close by. Pretty sure my door controller was on fire too though so it may have bought some time but I'd still be pretty fucked.

This is why I adore the fire beam. It's morbidly satisfying when you set fire to over half of a ship, especially when it's happened to you before.
I am so horribly bad at this game. I play on easy and I have only gotten to the boss stage two once, where I had two bars of hull health left...

This is either good or bad, I can't tell which.
Nerd[sup]3[/sup] made a video about this game, then I learned it was released on my birthday. Insta-buy.
It's great but hard as shit. Wish there was some sort of training mode with less constraints, but you can't reach the last stand, so you can have mindless fun.
I guess I'll probably use cheat engine to fuck around with the game at some point, just for shits and giggles. The game is amazing, and it's really one of the only games with a lot of annoying constraints (fuel, missiles, drone parts, rebel advancement in each sectors, energy, etc) I can totally play for a long while without ever getting bored of it. The design is just amazing and every time something bites you in the ass you know it's your fault (like how I made my way through five sectors without a rocket launcher, then found myself facing a ship with four fucking shields, with no way of getting through it because I only had laser weps).
This game does need modding support or a lot of expansion though. It's great as it is, but I feel like the fun factor is going to slowly diminish as I find out about everything. I wish you could also unlock very big ships like the flagship, where you have separate stations for separate weapons, a way bigger crew, etc.
A cool addition would also be the ability to physically upgrade your ship, further than a shield that looks more opaque and visible guns. Being able to add a second control station to each room that requires manning would be rad, as you'd be able to have two people working on the same module, at the same time. That, or having armored parts so some areas of your ship are more resistant/can't be breached, even though module damage is still possible.
There also should be an option to buy the exact number of cells you need for all of your equipment to be turned on at once, and see the exact price for it. I know you could just make the math yourself but it would still be neat.
Keep getting destroyed at the flagship, no idea what I'm meant to be going for that would be most effective as he repeatedly pounds me in the ass with rockets.
Got to the second phase of the flagship. How many drones does that hoe want to send out?!
Seems like the only way to do that phase is disabling the drone control, shame my bloody ion bombs kept on missing.
