You don't get into it instantly, its at the end of hte "sector" you jump into

How do you unlock layout B for certain ships? I looked at the ship guide and it only talked about unlocking the ships themselves

Finishing two of the three achievements nets you a layout.

I'll go down in history as his worst crew member, oh th standards i aspire to.
I find the lack of proper crew equipment kinda sad. The game would be way funnier if you could equip your crew with gas masks, guns, explosives, repair kits and other things.

I wish this was minecraft release style and we knew that eventually the game would cost more and have more content.

An armory would be an awesome addition to ships. Where if your crew hit the armory before teleportation or fighting boarders, they get a combat boost.
This game is evil, I was doing well for once and had an all civilian one nebula run to the finish. Near the end, and the exit is too far from all the other systems. Cheap.
Zoltan cruiser sucks so fucking much oh god.
My first win was with the Zoltan Cruiser

Has anyone found a really optimal build that can beat the flagship pretty easily? I've only ever been able to beat the first form and die from bot rape on the 2nd form.

Engi ship - 2 ion blast IIs - 1 fire beam - 1 defense I drone - 2 beam I drones - 2 rockmen for beaming em in.
Pre-fire aug, 2 auto-reload Aug's (15% + 15% = 30% increased reload speed + 19% from my engi gunner)
You'll also need cloak for 2nd and 3rd stage.

Try to put as many points in shields/engines as you can. Spam ion weapons then use beams or if you don't have that use missiles. Upgrading doors is also useful so you don't get raped by boarding drones. Weapons that help you kill most of the flagship crew before phase three is also kinda important.
