Heavy Laser II or Pike Beam.... Decisions decisions...
I'm messing around with the .dat decompiler and modding my ship so it's incredibly OP. I changed the Mk 2 laser burst to shoot 10 shots at 5 damage a piece. It's hilarious.

Have One of them V2 if you can, but having both v2 is a little dumb. They will ravage the enemy shield. your last drone slot Doesn't realy matter so much. I used the defence robot man. Get a drone arm. Keep the weapon you start with till the end of time! But you'd still need two more weapons. Upgrade your Medical bay sometime. The aug that ship comes with means that 3x healing is pretty much lvl 1 healing on the rest of the ship. It means that your crew has an advantage in combat because of regenerate+ it's convenient because you don't need to send people back and forth. get zoltans. abuse energy wealth

Or, perhaps add another option so you can pick to truly allow the enemy to surrender, or only do a fake surrender.

I love how, even if a game doesn't have modding tools, we find a way to mod it because we want to.
So I had two rebel scum trapped in their medbay while my boarding drone walked around and wrecked their systems. I shot out their 02 and they were forced to stay in medbay to heal from oxy loss. Well, it didn't work, mostly because I had an ion cannon. It didn't last long enough to kill them outright, but it kept bringing them closer and closer to death while the drone destroyed rooms and slowly destroyed the hull. Sucks to suck, rebels.
Is there any way to make events that give you a crew-member of a specific race, and a name from a list. I want to add a simple one where the party stumbles across a derelict shuttle, and discovers a crewman from one of many Star Trek vessels (So, you'd always get a human, and they'd have names like James Tiberius Kirk (if that fits), or any others that were on the name list.)
Fuck yes. Stealth Cruiser unlocked! Also I've made it to sector 6 in The Torus without finding one. single. goddamn. drone. Luckily Ion Blast 3 + Burst Laser 2 is a pretty good combo. Ok, wow. [t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/shityeah1.png[/t] The first form of the Flagship nearly destroyed me. But after that I managed to get a full repair and take out the next two stages with relative ease.
Gotta love all the "miss" at sector 8. Just gotta love it.

The rockets are pretty accurate until the last few sectors and they always go through shields. Also, I didn't get a picture of it, but if you cloak your outline is the rebel ship outline. anyway 8/10 am gonna play with again
Currently doing a Engi ship run with nothing but fire and ion weps, disable shields, light the ship up with Fire Beam and Fire Bomb, disable weapons and send in anti-ship drone to tick away at the remaining health, currently at sector six without a single enemy getting past my shields. I've saved three Manti from slavers, and they're currently my anti-boarding party, by sector 8, I should have enough defensive strength to take out the flagship easily.
This game is addicting as fuck but I can't make it too far I think I managed to make it through like five galaxies or whatever before getting fucked over. I unlocked the engi ship but it's too defensive. The ion cannon thing is good for knocking out shields but I'll stick with the kesteral to begin with because it's just a little more agressive [editline]20th September 2012[/editline] Also I can never tell what to buy or what to use

Getting that volley in to disable or damage enemy weapons is incredibly useful, and will sometimes mean you can get an enemy ship destroyed before they have a chance at shooting you. That thing that fixes your hull every time you collect scrap is also very useful, and if you have the scrap laying around it never hurts to upgrade subsystems to their "two-bar" versions.
I almost beat the boss with the Type A Zoltan ship. Had a fully combat ranked 2man mantis hit squad, 4 Zoltans split between the lvl 3 shields and fully powered weapons (1 on each fully ranked), a fully ranked human pilot (that I only put on pilot in sector 6 because I finally realized a Zalton pilot has no race bonus effect), and a fully ranked engi engineer. Weapons were Level 3 blaster (5 shots per volly!), a pike beam, a heavy ion blaster, and a smart bomb. Drones were lvl 1 defense and a boarder. I didn't understand his jumping mechanics and jumped to the point I thought I could fight him at only to find that he jumped to the base, not was prepping to jump to the base :( Side note, weapon pre-igniter + zoltan shield + sbomb + pike and halberd beams = enemies dead before they can penetrate your backup shields.

Disable their shields and keep sending drones in? I just bought a drone control thingo [editline]20th September 2012[/editline] also medbays are useless almost, I never keep my powered in battles
Finally beat the boss with my trusty Torus. One defence 2 and two anti ship 1 drones, and two ion blasters. I literally didn't take damage after sector 5 until the boss. Managed to beat it up without needing to repair. My reward? The Federation Cruiser, aka the Osprey. The played a round with the Osprey trying to get the type B straight away. After getting a defence 2 drone quite early on, I got the achievement for using only the laser to kill an enemy on a low level unmanned craft. Didn't upgrade my weapons up until sector 5 for the second achievement. This was going well, so I didn't upgrade my weapons at all. I bought another defence 2 drone and upgraded my laser and shields fully. I managed to clear the first two stages of the boss, taking me down to about half health. No repair systems in range, so I went man mode on the final stage. Boarders and fires ruined my day - but it was fun getting that far without ever buying or using a new weapon.

I also can't make the flagship an unlockable since we can't access the UI code.
If you manage to kill the entire crew of a ship, but not destroy the ship, you should be able to either pilot that ship also, or steal things like power/weapons/augments.

Just going to point out that someone should seriously spend some time making new Layouts. Perhaps recolouring Ships too. Maybe someone could make Paint jobs and layouts seperate? Could it be that hard? you could also probably resize some of the other ships you come across and use them.
