It would be really cool if the game ramped up enemy's difficulty based on the players ship, even beyond the intended point. So, the more the player cheated, the more the game cheated.
Side note, the weapon pre-igniter or whatever it's called is completely overpowered; with the right set of weapons one could easily one hit any ship. Even with my not so good setup, fighting through the rebel fleet wasn't all that much of a challenge.
Pre-igniter is best upgrade in the game hands down.
Damn, I really gotta use my cloak more.Got to the final stage of the Flagship and was taking a lot of damage but my Drones and autofire weapons somehow managed to destroy it, just at the exact moment I lost my last bit of hull. A pyrrhic victory is still a victory.
RIP in peace Fenn, the best gunner in the whole galaxy
this game gives me more feels than that VN about lemons
I think that if the devs spent an hour or so making New ships, layouts and characters, we'd have about twice as many as everything.
Although i think that the most important thing the game needs is Multiple ship battles.
I'm playing right now, and being a nerd I named my first 3 people after people in Mass Effect (being Jeff, Kaidan and Ashley, respectively) and I just had a fight with the mantis. The cockpit took a missile, and I heard the beeping and by the time I looked over my poor pilot suffocated.
RIP Jeff Moreau, best pilot ever.
Playing this just makes me want to go watch Firefly
Making me want to watch Firefly just makes me want to go for a shooting spree at fox

Well, the game does tend to fuck your ass.
Just without the lemon lube.
First time to the flagship

The previous playthrough i thought you could wait until the flagship jumped so i was a bit confused when i lost.
you know what rules? when you face a ship who boards you with FIVE FUCKING MANTIS MEN and you just manage to warp away and kill them all without losing a crewmember, then find a load of scrap for free in the next beacon and repair your ship at a store and carry on like practically nothing happened
[editline]22nd September 2012[/editline]
I made it to sector 7 before dying this time, went up against some impossible to hit ship with stupidly powerful burst lasers and rockmen boarders
Best way to fight boarders early game when you have a small crew is to dump everybody in the medbay and then open all of the doors apart from the medbay ones. Regardless of the level of doors you have the intruders will run in, you can shut all the doors again and fight them easily whilst getting healed. Basically flush them out.
Whenever I try this early on my mantis intruders make a fucking run for the oxygen supply and fuck me over. I mean yeah it's a pretty solid strategy but it can have disastrous consequences if you're not prepared for them.
I like the way after 20 hours my first game is still my top score.
Using the stealth ship is a huge pain at the start, is it worth it at all?
Using the stealth ship is a huge pain at the start, is it worth it at all?
Considering the (low) amount of content in the game, anything you can do to make it more challenging will add playtime, which is good.
That was beautiful. Made it to the final stage of the flagship for the first time. I had overlooked some repairs so things didn't start out too smoothly.
No Surprises by Radiohead comes on to my shuffle on Itunes and everything starts going to absolute shit and just as it finished the chorus and went on to the instrumental sorta bit I exploded.
Watching everyone die due to oxygen loss and then the last two survivors huddling in one room as the ship explodes with that song in the background was amazing.
I wish there was a way to ramp up the starting gear as much as I would want, but the enemies would also become just harder at the start to compensate.
With the boss, you can....
- assassinate guns by teleporting crew in. Their isolation stops others from interfering, so a single rockman, mantis or crystal should do it easily.
- Damage the bastard, Jump out for some repairs, jump back in.
- Disable his drone control by shooting it, but to be honest id just keep fighting the shields.
Christ, the 2nd configuration for the stealthship is a cunt.
First sector I jump into I'm already fucked because the first shot i take hits my weapon bay and knocks out my beam, and while you're repairing/waiting for it to charge up you just get fucked, stealth gets knocked out. BLAH
All this game does is fuck me over. I finally get a good sector layout, literally civilian sectors all the way to Sector 8 and I instantly get boarded in front of a star.
Fuck you FTL stop fucking me totally.
It also told me losing is part of the fun.
It's not when I can't get past sector 2 anymore because of one cunt with the fastest rocket launcher in existence.

Losing is fun though.
Like Dorf Fort. The road to failure, even when nearly instantaneous, is great.
nvm got a weapon pre-igniter
wow my automerge

You have no idea how game development works.

Feels good dunnit?
First time I spotted the weapon pre-igniter I instantly popped a rock-hard boner.
It always bugged me when I'd completely dominate an enemy but he'd still fire first and take out like 1-2 hull points. It's a couple scrap but that shit is finite and I hate to lose it.

Losing is only fun when you learn something from the experience. That's the problem with the 'losing is fun' argument. Sometimes you just lose for no reason and there's nothing to be learned. That's not fun, that's infuriating.

Well to each his own in that department. I have plenty of fun even when I fail and don't learn shit.
FTL for example. I know pretty much everything there is to know about the game, and how to manage energy and repairs in the most efficient possible manner, but I still have fun when I lose.
Ahahaha eat my dick you rebel fucks I just beat your flagship.
Fuck I wish I had called my Ship the Normandy now so it would say "Thanks to the valiant efforts of the Normandy SR2 and her crew".
Red-Tail will have to do :v:

I love you crew, you are the best crew ever <3

I like to picture Lord Beckett's death in "At World's End" every time I lose spectacularly.
Ah fuck it, got to the last form of the final boss in the type B stealthship but then I got fucked over by the crew invasion and missle/laser spam
Almost had him :@
Wow... Fed Cruiser with 2x Burst Laser II was a cakewalk (on Easy).
