I like how it would take like half a barrage from all of those rebel capital ships in the background to blow you up.
Which is another point for multi-ship battles. Have federation against rebels.
want.
I just bought the game and I love it :D I had hoped for a freeroaming game though, like a galaxy with thousands of planets where I could just explore.
Have a question, what happens if I wipe out the crew of an enemy ship instead of destroying it? Will I get more loot? Can I even loot it?
Was thinking of changing my tactic to just wiping the crew out while disabling weapons with ion guns in hopes that it would give better loot.
Get more scrap and better chance at looting ship weapons i think

The best way to kill off an enemy crew without boarding them is to have like 2 or 3 ion weapons and just spam their shields, weapons, and O2 scrubbers. The problem with that is that if their shields are higher level it takes a while, or if they have drones as well as weapons. Personally i try and have a couple of mantis men and a level 3 teleporter, send them to weapons first, destroy them and any crew around, get them back when they are at low health. Just rinse and repeat until everyone on their ship is dead.
Or actually, if you have breaching bombs or an anti-bio laser you can do even better. Both of those weapons wreck shit.
I nearly got to the last sector on my third playthrough, I was being cautious and always getting enough ressources to get a decent ship. I had a killer kombo with missiles, burst lasers and a laser hull. Unfortunately at before the last major jump some dude killed my ass off, he did not destroy me instantly. But my systems failed after a while, mainly due to some mantises fucking up my ship.
Addictive game so far.

Not related to your victory, but seeing this has made me realized that I have never once found a slug crew member.
So I just got the game and I've been having some good luck on my first run. I actually managed to get to the flagship.

But you can guess what happened next.

Oh well, still pretty good for a first run I think. Also, I can see now why everyone says this game makes you hate it, I was gritting my teeth many times, especially when my blaster managed to miss all three shots twice in a row.

I was stuck. I was using the engi ship and ran out of drone parts, so I got into an encounter and could only repeatedly shut down the shields/weapons of the enemy so they couldn't deal any damage to me. But, as I was out of drones, I couldn't deal any to them. Nor could I keep their oxygen disabled, as then the shields/weapons would have enough time to recoup and start dealing damage to me.
Eventually decided to just continually autofire the oxygen room and see if I could make it out somehow, but yeah, didn't work.
This game is so frustrating, but I can't stop playing!
I have a question, is the second stage of the rebel flagship the last one? Or is there a third stage?

There is a third stage.
There is a third stage.
Noooo! I've only ever made it to the second, and that was with 4 shields and a fully powered weapon system. I don't see how defeating the flagship is possible.
I've beaten the flagship and I can say that if you have cloak, the third stage is trivial. All you have to do is cloak when it uses its superweapon and it'll do no damage. The same tactic can be applied to the drones as well.
Why would you ever do a runthrough without any sort of weapons??

...Fuck.
Steal their ship
Why would you ever do a runthrough without any sort of weapons??
Class B of the mantis cruiser starts with no weapons. I'm guessing Oathness didn't find any either.
They should put a Reaper from Mass Effect on this. That would be fun.
I want the mantis ship so bad
I can't find the homeworlds though, go through every sector and nothing
I had a very good run yesterday. 3 weapons, 3 shield bars, 8 crew.
Then i ran into an engi ship, instantly giving me a mantis crew member for free.
Wanting to kill the crew rather than destroying them (for better loot), i sent a boarding party.
Those engi fuckers kept getting healed throughout the ship by their nano bots, and kept running away to the medbay only to return a few moments later.
Being frustrated, i sent a total of 6 out of 8 of my crew to try to kill 2 fucking engi's.
In my rage, i didn't notice their hull was getting close to 0, and i saw all of my crew on that ship get blown to pieces.
Having 2 crew left, i made the jump to the next sector. Flagship surprise!
To prevent boarding parties fucking up my ship, i vented pretty much every room on my ship to keep my leftover crew safe.
Then the flagship destroyed my O2....
So i found the stasis chamber and then i found the zoltan research crew and got the crystalline crew member guy who gave me the mission to go to the rock home worlds.
Then I had one jump left before the final stand and none of my options were the rock homeworlds
:(((((
I prefer the Engi ship so much over the Kestral ship, I seem to survive a lot longer. Although without drones you are pretty much helpless except you got some other weapons. Anyway I noticed that the ship heals your crewmates in every singlen room. That is great for fighting of intruders.
Also I died to the mothership, it was insane, I had no hull left due to previous battles.

I was in the exactly the same situation, that Crystal Cruiser eluded me once again.

Something interesting I found out.
If you have an Nvidia GPU, try forcing FXAA on FTL through hte Nvidia Control Panel. It makes all game sprites look much more smooth and less pixelart-y.
you might like it more.

Here's an example of what it looks like: http://niggaupload.com/images/75jXa.png
I found a rather funny bug, I was playing with the mantis ship just minding my own business and doing what mantises do, which is suddenly boarding ships and slaughtering everything. At one point I noticed a suddenly had an engi on my ship, which confused me as I didn't remember any event that would've ended with him on my ship, I just shrugged it off. A few minutes later, after another mantis fun time boarding party I suddenly had another engi just standing around in the cockpit with no explanation where he came from. Next battle, another engi appeared, and another, it kept happening until we reached the crew limit.
So apparently I have an infinite supply of these guys, everytime a crew member dies a engi appears in my ship's cockpit after a battle.
Speaking of Mantises and Engis, I was playing as the Engi ship when I got boarded by no less than six mantises.
Six.
Attacked my two engis.
In Sector two.
On Easy.
Okay, gg, brb killing self.
They should put a Reaper from Mass Effect on this. That would be fun.
I would but I can't find any Reaper pixel art/images that would fit and not look absolutely horrendous
I love the mechanics of this game, all the systems and subsystems are such a great touch, also navigating the crew around your vessel and weighting your choices.
How the FUCK do I destroy the flagship
I keep making it to the second form then DROOOOOOOOONESSSSSSSSSSSSS
Not sure if this has been posted before. But I found it useful.

This one seems very interesting. Basically allows you to delay the rebel fleet by attacking it, and you can set it to delay them for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, or 10,000 turns for each victory over the fleet.
I will clear the game vanilla first, and then install that right away.
