Do you have to put all the Power into the engine for the dodge to work or can I just leave it to the minimum for other stuff?
Putting power into engines just increases the dodge chance. You've gotta have at least 1 bar to dodge though, + a pilot.

So the more power I put in it, the higher the dodge?
So the more power I put in it, the higher the dodge?
Each power bar increases it by 5%. Also, if your engine guy levels up (crew can level if they work on one job long enough, like pilot / shields / weapons) you get another % bonus
Actually managed to take out the first stage of the Flagship... until the clusterfuck of clusterfucks of drone orgies.
Damned drones.
I got the Red Tail, I didn't get far with it, but I'll try again later.
Victory once more. Got real close at the end. Oxygen was running out, engines were burning, sensors were down AND I had boarders.
My entire knowledge of the English language was devolved to "Holy Shit" as the battle came to an end.
I ended up with a path that went: Civi, Hostile, Civi, Civi, Hostile, Hostile, Civi, and of course Hostile for the last one, so it was evenly split.
And through all that, I came close to destruction multiple times by suns and pissed hostiles. Not once did I get a Weapon Pre-Igniter and not once did I think victory was even possible.
Yet, despite my continued pessimism, I managed to blow that Flagship off it's shit.
Victory feels good even after it's already been achieved before.
That rebel flagship. Holy shit. Destroying it was probably the single most satisfying moment I've ever encountered in a video game.
I used a teleporter to send some dudes in to take out the crew (and the weapon systems) for the flagship's offensive gear.
When that thing can't shoot at you the battle gets a lot easier.

For me, I focus on fucking up shields, then boarding, then drones (switch those two on stage two), have beams sweep across weapons, and from there get engines and the cockpit, lowering evade, depending on if you plan on burning everything, or if you want to draw attention away from Shield and Engine repair, either set destroy O2, or not, your choice. If you're using hull beams or whatever, have those focusing on empty rooms (unless you really need to wipe out those drones.) That rapid fire Ion weapon worked wonders, helped against the shield for sure, and on stage two, it saved my ass :v:
Due to various things, this is the first game I've played in a while and enjoyed. :D

After seeing you could buy the soundtrack here, I bought it right away.
Bleh, got the rock and mantis cruisers in a single run with the Red-Tail, then got into a stalemate with the final boss when my entire boarding crew died. He had no weapons and I couldn't get past his shields.
Well that was stupid. I found the Damaged Stasis Pod, got it to a Zoltan research station in Sector 6, and the crewmate was all like "hey man take me to the rock homeworlds."
THE ROCK HOMEWORLDS WERE NOWHERE TO BE FOUND WHAT THE FUCK

I had a run with two stasis pods, no Zoltan Research Station.

I even ran into a third crystal ship encounter later on, picked the weapon instead.
Almost had the rebel flagship.
Had it on like 1 hull health and he uses a FTL :suicide:
On the first stage?

you know there's 3 stages and it warps out between them right?
zoltan ship sucks

Fuck really?
Fuck really?
Yup. The first stage is fairly easy, second stage spams drones everywhere, third stage boards your ship with half an army.
Just completed a boarding+ion-only run. Suffice to say, the flagship was an intense fight.
The first phase of the flagship was pretty hard - the presence of the crew + the level 3 doors + the level 3 medbay hampered my boarding efforts.
I lost the first of my boarding Mantises in the first, not-well-thought-out teleport.
I used an ionbomb on the medbay after realising home much of a terrible idea that was. This allowed me to kill off the whole crew in two or three teleports.
After I killed off the crew I had to keep the missile gun and the doors disabled so my boarding drone could take out the systems one by one - while keeping up my Mk2 defense drone whenever I was hit with a barrage.
It took ten bloody minutes for that drone to finish off the first phase, as the stupid thing hit the O2 systems so my mantises couldn't help.
The second phase was surprisingly easy. I took out the drone systems first, so that phases surge attack didn't really happen too often.
The third phase was very intense.
I ran out of missiles early on. This meant I couldn't keep the triple missile launcher disabled, unless I could get a drone to breach the room.

That super shield would become the bane of everything I ever loved. Made me run out of drone parts really fast.

Out of drone parts, I guess I'll send my mantises in for a few seco--

My mantises were trapped. There was no was I could get them out. So they suffocated.
The only way I could do damage was by sending in men. But I had no boarding teams.
So I sent in my engineman and my pilot.

The flagships hull was critical - It was time to send in the final boarding team.
They wouldn't be coming back.

RIP Allison, Debbie, CY Heng, Davion, Jill and Bloch.
Gave their lives for the good of the Federation.
;_;7
Total run time: about an hour and a half. probably half an hour just for the flagship battle.
Beat the game on normal with the Kestrel. Had two Burst Laser II's and an Ion Bomb. I'd nuke his shields and then blast them to put them into perpetual disrepair. Then I'd get to work on everything else.
Just had my most OPed run sofar. I used the engi ship with drone recovery, 3x attack drone and 3x ION cannons. Everything died in seconds, including the flagship.
Fire bombs are crazy effective against the flagship if you have a boarding party. The AI that takes over when the crew is dead can repair systems, but it can't put out fires.
Just leave the O2 alone.

Mod idea: If part of your crew is on the enemy ship and your ship is destroyed, you can attempt to kill the crew and take over the ship.
Bought this yesterday and playing until 7 in the morning. It seems really hard (which I figure it's supposed to be). I played it on normal a load and the furthest I got was sector 5 or 6. I played it once on easy and I got to the boss, but he blew me up on his drone phase.
Any tips on playing with the Kestrel or Engi cruiser? Or even tips on unlocking some of the other ships.

There are some specific requirements for certain ships, if you want to spoil yourself then check wiki.
Farm as much as you can in every sector and if possible kill enemy crewmembers but leave their ships hull intact, you get more scrap (possible weapons?) that way.
Wow, just came to the flagship for the first time. The first form was pretty easy, took him down in a couple of minutes and only lost 30% or so hull (which I then quickly repaired with my hull repair drone, god I love those), but the second form was just horrible. I mean he's supposed to be damaged, I blew up a pretty good piece of his ship, and yet suddenly he throws out a billion drones at me and has full shields and all weapons except for one.
I think "Ok, this won't be a problem. I got full evade, full shields and a defense drone so those drones shouldn't do much damage as long as I keep all systems repaired." It worked for a while, I drained about half of its health. Then suddenly BAM, got a boarding drone who wrecks my shields and kills my 2-star shields guy, and I have almost no chance of killing him since almost all of my crew are Engi. After that I just become bombarded by all the drones and the ship itself, killing off my systems almost all at once while I still have to deal with the fucking boarding drone.
It's amazing how quickly the tide of a battle can turn.
Playing FTL with Eve music ohmygod
