No, it wouldn't . It would still suffer from the problems it currently has.
- Only 1v1 encounters, which is dull and repetitive. it CAN be unique if the enemy has radical weaponry and bording parties add to flavour... but you're likely to do all this in Two sectors. after that it's just more of the same plus shield strengh.
- Limited crew variation.
- No interesting or special systems/rooms... like a hacking sub, a hologram emitter, a prison, an auxiliary version of a current system, a mini unit creator* , armory,
(*mini units being characters that take half the space of a regular character and probably weak/ uncontrolable with only one function. Such as combat robot spiders, organic spiders, baby mantis, repair spiders etc)
- Limited augment system. we should be allowed more- but have ones that conflict with another. Also we should be allowed More varied augments and ships with unique limitations. Like Organic, self repairing hull that limits the shields.
- still little ship variation (both playable and non playable). We need distinct classes of ships. Huge Battleships with more than one layer of deck, Carriers, destroyers. lighter ships that travel in groups of two or three. But more importantly new weapons. Like Ion beams , weapons that overload shields rather than bring them down. swarm missiles. radiation beams, powerful weapons which don't pick a target (like the boss's weapons) etc
nah it'd be better
umpteenth play through and still haven't beat the game.
Try to get and use the engi ship. That was my first (and I think easiest) victory.
Took me a while to figure out I can kill fires by draining OXYGEN FROM THE ROOM ITS IN
:v:
That's kind of how fires work though.
I was seriously expecting any boarding parties to get pushed out of airlocks if they were exposed to the vacuum of space. I was sorely disappointed when that didn't happen, but obviously it would defeat the purpose of using boarding parties to disable ships because they would be easily countered.
I still mostly use airlocks to get rid of boarding parties, kind of frantically opening doors behind them as they go.
And it should be open world
And IMHO permadeath should be optional if it was open world. I know you will disagree, but it isn't as fun starting with a tiny weak ship and 10 hours later you have enough scrap for a super mega death battleship and you die a few minutes later because of some random event. Starting with the weak ship again would be frustrating and boring.
I'd hope that a huge expansion like that would eliminate most of the less fun random deaths. So, they could keep permadeath, but it wouldn't be as frustrating.
Was doing so well, then made a stupid fucking move and traveled to a star that only had one way back: the star I'd just come from.
So I had to teleport into rebel infested space. I fended off the first rebel ship, but then when I traveled to the next star, the rebels were there as well (as the two stars were close together and there was no other star I could escape to).
I got fucked up the second time. They one-shotted my O2 room and Droid room, so I couldn't send my boarding drones to screw them over. I was pretty pissed, I thought Ion Beams disabled weapons systems, but the rebel ship could still shoot missiles at me. It normally works that their weapons are disabled, but I guess missiles are unique or something.
Engie ships rules, a shame I died in such a retarded fashion though.

Ion weapons only take 1 power off per ion damage afaik. Usually you have to pound them with 2-3 consecutive shots to disable all their weapons depending on how they have them powered.
Ion weapons deal certain amounts of Ion damage. The more Ion damage an Ion weapon deals, the more power bars it will remove from a system when that system is hit.
e.g. with an Ion damage of one, striking a weapons system will only remove one power bar from the enemy's weapons system.

god dammit
I had two ion cannons in my last playthrough but I could only power one and power my main weapon
that and my drones were weak as fuck
[editline]2nd October 2012[/editline]
Also I beat the flagship with the engi ship too. You need an anti ship, defense and something else drone if you want to win. Dem missles COMIN ATCHA NIGGA
Also I had an ion blast and a MK III burst lazer which was the brunt of my offensive, as well as a boarding party.
Ladies and gentlemen, may I present:
I just want an auto-save, man. Or at least save without quitting. It's just common courtesy.
Manually copy your save game folder of FTL.
If you auto save in rougelikes you've missed the point
Well I finally beat the game, The fine crew of the Genesis won the day, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel and Tony Banks, Collins personally killed 4 mantises with his fists.

Again, I request this because of the game's stability. Not because I want to be able to reload a save when I'm dead. No-one seems to get this.
I think Dungeons of Dredmor has auto saves, but they are removed when you die. I think FTL should add that.
If you auto save in rougelikes you've missed the point
True, but still he can have his saves in a manual backup.

Most users don't experience problems in stability if you want to use it for that or a auto save function it's up to you.

it's stable. Not one crash yet.
I hate that I'm the only one getting this. Then again, I'm probably the only one who alt-tabs with it.

You're using full-screen?
I would've gone window if I actually could choose resolution.
I would've gone window if I actually could choose resolution.
I wish the window could be resized. It feels so tiny on bigger, high resolution monitors.
I would've gone window if I actually could choose resolution.
That's likely your issue then; I play in windowed mode and it's incredibly stable even when I alt-tab out of it a lot.
I'm a bit miffed that this game doesn't seem to be designed for higher resolutions--I get black bordering on all 4 sides of the screen in fullscreen 1366x768, and a lot of the backgrounds are laughably low-res (most noticeably nebulas).
Seems like a big oversight for a game released in 2012.
The Man of war is MAJESTIC mid-late game so long as you get a crew of 4 or 5 or more and an Ion blast 2
Actualy ion blast 2 is my favourite weapon. you will never feel inadequate in removing shields after it
Just tried the game, probably the hardest game ive ever played.
Latest patch can lick my fucking dick, Mantis can't be healed anymore.

Jesus, you had scrap to spare!
Step 1: Start with the engi ship.
Step 2: Acquire Fire Beam weapon.
Step 3: Spam the hostiles weapons with your ion cannon.
Step 4: Target the hostile ships oxygen and laugh as your all consuming hellfire banishes the souls of all who oppose you to oblivion.
