Step 1: Start with the engi ship. Step 2: Acquire Fire Beam weapon. Step 3: Spam the hostiles weapons with your ion cannon. Step 4: Target the hostile ships oxygen and laugh as your all consuming hellfire banishes the souls of all who oppose you to oblivion.
Step 5: Encounter an enemy with 2+ shields and die like a bitch.
I just ion bomb + normal bomb their shields and weapons, then proceed to fire beam their shit and bomb their shit.
Step 5: Encounter an enemy with 2+ shields and die like a bitch.
The Anti-ship drone will come in handy on that occasion.
I'm a bit miffed that this game doesn't seem to be designed for higher resolutions--I get black bordering on all 4 sides of the screen in fullscreen 1366x768, and a lot of the backgrounds are laughably low-res (most noticeably nebulas). Seems like a big oversight for a game released in 2012.
It's pixel art game, so it's not very friendly with resolutions. I guess he could just do it the simple way and stretch it across the screen.
finally defeated the flagship for the first time.... with the stealth cruiser???
What. I just, What. First run, and Stealth Ship, and extra scrap (will never beat my Fed Cruiser 2nd run, after randomly finding two Burst Laser III's in the first two sectors, I maxed out systems after killing everything I encountered, bought a shit load of Zoltan for power, and then never bought anything except fuel. Beat the flagship with nine hundred something scrap.
Stealth ship rapes if you know how to play stop complaining about it not having shields, not like you can BUY THEM OR ANYTHING
I sent my five-man crew of Engis into a room full of fire for being fucking retarded. I figured death by fire is basically the Engi equivalent of Seppoku. Motherfuckers are supposed to have twice the repair speed, yet they'd take for ever to fix a damn yellow ship part. The AI alerted me to their low health, but it was the death they deserved. I clearly got the less mentally capable bunch of Engi guys, cause they were terrible. Don't even get me started on how they were all little bitches when a Mantis would teleport on the ship. They'd be slapping the Mantis whilst he's tearing them each a new metallic asshole. Having them have to run crying off to the Medbay to heal up and replace each other in turn for another beating. After every boarding raid, I'd have to open up the airlocks to drain away the Engi tears from the beatings they received. Terrible crew.
Stealth ship rapes if you know how to play
No, Stealth ship is only good if you get good drops.
any ship is good if you get good drops that's the problem with this game
any ship is good if you get good drops that's the problem with this game
Well, every ship should be good (as in playable), but at the same time they shouldn't only be usable based on lucky drops.
I found that as the Engi ship, if I get shields up to level 2 and some attack droids, I can pretty much get to the second to last sector just fine. Only threat is boarding parties, but they aren't common. Battles become the same old "Shoot Ion Cannon at enemy shield, take out their weapons room, let Attack Drone shoot the ship down" rinse, repeat. Still good fun, just a shame it doesn't have a bit more options for combat, to spice things up a bit. Still, a great little time waster.
Well, every ship should be good (as in playable), but at the same time they shouldn't only be usable based on lucky drops.
Well I disagree that the stealth ship is only usable on lucky drops
Well I disagree that the stealth ship is only usable on lucky drops
I mean from an ideal game design perspective. Obviously, they're not perfectly balanced as is.
I get boarded all the fucking time, I once went through 3 mantis sectors, each sector I got boarded like 4 times.
I either try and suffocate the boarders as much as I can (to make the inevitable close quarter fight easier for my crew members), or I lure them into my MedBay and kick their asses. Having that Droid that attacks any enemies on your ship also helps.
boarding drone with a ship of engi WELL FUCK
boarding drone with a ship of engi WELL FUCK
Blow up the enemy drone control, it just stands there and you can beat it to death with your puny rubber engi-fists.
but the fists just bounce off at hit the hapless engi
Jesus, you had scrap to spare!
early on I found the boarding drone and some ion weapons, as well as due to insane fucking luck I looted the stealth weapons augment, so i basically went to as many sectors as possible and killed everything's crew, I was absolutely swimming in scrap :v: pretty much necessary with the stealth ship though, I ended up replacing both default weapons as well as both default augments I even found a glaive beam (but I found pike beam to be better) :v:
Any cheats to unlock all ship types? Can't seem to find the races to unlock the ships ingame. I've played through about 3 times. Would be fun to play through with another ship (Engi ship is too easy).

Managed to kill the flagship/mother ship the first round but died in the second, stupid drones. Ion cannons don't seem to disable them when you shoot on the drone room.

It does disable the normal drones between power surges though.
