Reminds me of how I absolutely hoarded drone parts (this was on the play through that I finally beat the Flagship with) to use with my repair drone for the Flagship fight. I had about 50 drone parts by the time of the fight.
I used 3. And won.
You guys might enjoy this. Someone made a mod to improve the low rez backgrounds
"The only thing this mod (or should I say reskin? Not sure about the nomenclature) does is replace the background graphics. That is planets, sun, stars, galaxies and the nebula. No other textures (ships etc) are being modified.
Please note: For the added backgrounds and planet, I had to modify the file events_imageList.xml (append is not possible in this case). Keep this in mind if you use any other mods that altered that file."

Instructions are on the page, I'm going to download it
Planet without glow = no download.
Okay whatever
Enjoy your low res nebulas
yeah sorry the lack of glow is a deal breaker.
anyone have that concept art of the originally planned higher detail ships?
personal choice w/e man
the glow is cool I'll admit, the original fourth planet looks better
if only it had glow... if only :C
tbh I just don't want to see the eyesores which are nebulas
DAT
COMPRESSION
but you missed the best thing about the backgrounds
There's not much wrong with the backgrounds I'm just sick of looking at the same ones
Now all we need is a high res ship, and UI mod
Nostromo ship texture
Mantis models are replaced by xenomorphs, which can quickly infest rooms of your ship and produce facehuggers which, if not killed immediately will hide themselves onboard and eventually impregnate one of the crewmembers.
protips for killing xenomorphs: fire, blowing em out the airlock
ohgod
damn, proper modding support for this would be awesome

it's always good in 2d games, since things are usually simpler and anyone can create their own sprites
Okay whatever
Enjoy your low res nebulas
I will, no point in having high res nebulas and low res everything else IMO.
This game's really cool, but I seriously fucking hate it sometimes. It's like, you can be the most skilled motherfucker, you can make contingencies for almost everything that you can run into, you can get the most badass rag-tag crew of misfit soldiers and freaking Xenomorph physicists, but then some dude will show up with a laser the size of the Statue of Liberty's head, he'll kill all your dudes, set you on fire, then toss your writhing body off a cliff and laugh while he does it.
And you can't prevent it no matter what the experience taught you, so you can't even rely on trial and error. It's the game's biggest flaw that strategy and intellect can just go right out the window if you're not lucky enough.
As I say, I really like this game, but the luck-based portion of it can be totally infuriating.
What really annoys me is that the AI is so poorly coded that the game relies on you having buff health and enemy having OP weapons to make a fair game.
[editline]17th October 2012[/editline]
Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's bad, in fact I think it's good they managed to balance it, but still, it kinda sucks knowing whether you're fucked or not just by looking at your opponents weapons and other systems.
If they ever add MP you're gonna have huge problems fighting against the human with equal equipment to yours.
Currently I've got the HD backgrounds, extra character names and DiversityMod installed.
Diversity mod edits some of the weapons appearance so it's easier to tell what weapon blast is hurdling toward your ship.

Anybody else hear about Star Command? Looks like the next game I buy.
Yeah, gonna be great when it releases in 2014.

Yeah. As a player, lock down weapons and shields and you win. AI just targets all over the place

If luck isn't in your favor, why not FTL out of there?
The game isn't designed for you to be able to win every fight. There's a chance you'll run into stuff that way outclasses what you are prepaired for, even if you've had a lot of luck. In these situations, just jump out and escape. It's why the "FTL charge time" is a major feature of upgrading your engines - its not there for the hell of it, its there because it increases how quick you can escape when you run into an unbeatable situation.
The only "you are fucked" situation you can't avoid is the final boss - but that is something that is expected you are to prepare for, and that you attack on your own accord (instead of just running into it on a whim).

Unless your engines get hit/you're in an ion storm/the guy at the helm dies. Which, heyo, are all based on luck.
If luck isn't in your favor, why not FTL out of there?
Because it takes time, it doesn't save my crew if they've been killed (which can totally fuck up a build and basically just delay the inevitable), it doesn't immediately fix all the damage that's been dealt, and I may or may not still be on fire, low on oxygen, and without functioning weapons. All these problems can effectively kill you every time you make a jump, unless you're so absurdly lucky that you don't run into anyone at all for the entirety of the sector.
If you upgrade your engines, you still might not be able to get away before severe damage is dealt. And, come the final boss, you are literally fucked. You still need to spend a fair bit of scrap if you want to upgrade the engines to the point where you can jump away as soon as it goes awry, which it usually does right from the start for me.

this too
Beat the game on Normal for the first time, using this;
[t]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/559830147993472523/BDD01BDB254304D33AB42E7E21EF41B18BED557C/[/t]
Humans are weak.
I need to start trying to unlock ships because it simply ain't working for me beating the game with the two ships you get earliest :v:
I like the fact that a lot of the game is based on luck. Even though it is kind of annoying, it's what gives the game it's replayability and not knowing what's going to happen and how you're going to deal with things.
