Got a couple of things I'd like to input to the thread: First, I think it'd be pretty interesting to have a ship with no med bay at all, but it starts with the healing bomb. Would probably be annoying and you're fucked if you run out of missiles, but it's an interesting idea, I think. Second, you guys know those small slug cruisers? Round, small things with sort of a tail. They're also purple. They have the O2 room in the bottom left corner, with no doors to access it. Why the hell would anyone do that? Who prevents access to a part of their own ship? Can't go in to defend it from boarders, can't go in to repair it. Nothing. My Anti Ship drone destroyed that O2 room, so I disabled the drone and just set my Ions to autofire the weapons. Took a little while, but it worked. Killed the crew and took no damage. :v: Lastly. I'm playing the Engi ship. Came across a Rebel ship with a defense drone (of no matter to me, what with no missile weapons), a single laser, and 1 shield. It couldn't pass my shields if it wanted to. So, this is my 4th or 5th jump in Sector 1, right? And this dinky Rebel ship can't hurt me for crap. So I set my Ion to autofire on the O2 room, then left the game running and took a shower. I come back, and not only am I unhurt, I won. Also my weapons guy is halfway to level 2, and the other system guys are halfway to level 1. In Sector 1. Not a bad run so far, but I've been bested when I was better off than this before.
Goddamn, the 2nd federation cruiser sucks total ass The only real advantages it has are the slug/zoltan crew member, which isn't so much of an advantage when you can generally buy/find these crew members while playing normally anyways and you don't really -need- them early game (where you wouldn't be able to generally get/afford them). And honestly, I'd rather have the rock/mantis you get with the A version. The Zoltan's ability is mostly a gimmick (it gives you one free energy bar, which is only useful to have one free energy bar. It doesn't give energy to damaged systems, the only time you'll ever actually -need- it, and it works with EMP'd systems but lets be honest - the only thing that usually get damaged by EMP are the shields, where you need 2 power bars anyways to power.). The slug's ability is nice, but also a gimmick unless you are in a nebula and have a ship focused on boarding/killing enemies. The weapons are terrible, mid-game it will be impossible to damage anything because they get out-gunned really really fast. If you happen to not be able to get any weapons till then, you are fucked. The artillery beam comes auto-upgraded to level 2 which is nice, but still kinda useless as that is a super cheap starter-upgrade to do. The worst part about it other than the weapons is the layout. Very small med-bay makes you basically fucked in a boarding party. It doesn't help that the tiny rooms and airlocks it has, make it really hard to deal with boarding parties as well. If they land on the front of the ship, you basically have to evacuate everyone out of there and to the back of the ship in order to drain O2 and open the airlocks, and those are some of your most critical systems, plus its where the medbay is located. Which by the way, you can't really camp out easily in the med bay because its super tiny.

Cloak only lasts 10 seconds [i]and[/i] you only have 2 engine bars, so there's not much hope of just avoiding any incoming projectiles. Pretty much no matter what you are going to take damage.
Had some spare money, so I decided to get this, any tips?

Run out, start fixing the door controls, then run back and heal. Repressurize and get on your way.
You are in the Engi ship which has the Medi Bot dispenser aug which heals you no matter where you for a reduced rate. Just tank the repairs of the door controls and you should be fine. Just put the power of the medi-bay to full and you will heal faster when out there.
At least he's not in a solar storm. Oh god the destruction.

I had a good run.

I remember my first run with the Zoltan ship I managed to end up recruiting 7 Zoltan. I'm almost positive that the ship would have been giving off lethal levels of radiation at that point. :v:
It's sad how much this thread died out. I guess the game's just getting too repetitive/old without any new content.
It took me around 3 weeks to get the crystal cruiser, after taking so long to get it I seem to be getting into the crystal homeworlds nearly every other run almost effortlessly.

I'll still play it every now and then, but it's had its 15 minutes and a lot of other good games are waiting on theirs.

Did they ever announce plans for more updates that add content instead of just bugfixes?

They're already okay with modding, so it seems like a logical step. Then the game's life will be extended by a long time just from the community.
They should do a massive content boost. Quad the amount of content. Then have a free weekend.
