So close.
The first stage was a breeze. All you have to do is teleport people into all but one of the weapon rooms (leaving the triple laser alone; the missile room is first, then the ion room, then the beam room). At that point, all they can do to you is shoot their inky-dink Burst Laser Mk. II ripoff at you, and if you have at least 3-layer shields, this shouldn't be much of a problem.
I made a couple mistakes which most likely led to my downfall. For starters, I accidentally ended the first phase of the battle before I had killed off all but one of their crew. There were still two rebels left in the main body of the ship to mess with my boarders.
Second, I didn't realize that every single one of the flagship's systems (including its weapons) is completely repaired between battles. I didn't have my boarding party in the teleporter ready to go when I FTL'd to the flagship, and I teleported them into the drone controls instead of the triple missile launcher of mass destruction. Getting pelted with missiles definitely didn't help at all.
And no, I didn't get to the crystal worlds. But I did get the crystal guy good and ninja'd up before the flagship battle so he'd be nice and ready to kick some major rebel posterior. He and his Mantis buddy made a great team.
Cloaking device also would have been pretty useful.
You know what would be neat?
A tractor beam augment that reduces enemy evasion by a certain amount or percentage. Could perhaps be stackable.
I've decided the stealth cruiser is complete bullshit. Still, playing without shields is a nice twist. I wonder if I could pull it off with the rock cruiser, seeing as it has that armor augment...
Speaking of the stealth cruiser, this may be of interest

This game is hard, guys.
I believe that was my fourth attempt at beating the game on Normal difficulty as the Kestrel Type A.
Also, enemies with five-layer shields are just not nice.
[editline]Mantis Boarding Squad.[/editline]
I just beat a ship by doing absolutely nothing.
It was an auto-scout with no shields in an asteroid field. Before it could get a shot off with its Ion Blast and Mini-Beam, it was immediately hit in the weapons with an asteroid, taking its beam offline. Another asteroid took out its engines, and then another, its Ion Blast.
I just sat there and watched it get pelted to death. Makes me wonder how it could have been waiting for me in there, seeing as how it couldn't survive some fifteen seconds of the pelting...
[editline]Zoltan Boarding Squad. Awww yeah.[/editline]
Is it bad that I downloaded and installed Cheat Engine so I could use its speed hack function to powerlevel really fast whenever I run into a ship that can't get past my shields?
[editline]Repair Drone Boarding Squad?[/editline]
I now have a crew of five (four humans and a rock) who are all fully experienced in piloting, engines, shields, and weapons. :v:
I finally reach sector 7 for the first time, only to die due to mantis in a nebula
:suicide:
The flagship is pants compared to full mantis boarding parties.
>boarding party
>evacuate all air if i haven't done it already

So close to that 'enemy crew is dead' bonus, and yet, so many miles away...
That medbay is somehow able to heal the mantis guy at exactly the same speed as he suffocates to death at. :v:
Is this any good? Should I get it?

If you like spaceships, have a lot of tactics, and know how to multitask then get it.
It's worth the $10 if you have nothing to do or want to play at night, in my opinion.
Consider watching some let's plays so you can see for yourself.
This game is incredibly difficult but just as fun.

My fifth attempt to beat the game on Normal with the default ship goes up in flames.
I was not prepared for the boss fight, and I knew it, and there was nothing I could do about it. This game is freakin' cruel.

I blame my horrendous luck. I literally went through like, a sector and a half and got absolutely nothing to show for besides a bunch of hull damage.
I got this game a few days ago and have put some time into it. It's really damned fun, way more than I expected. My latest game, on the Kestrel, I had my O2 knocked out in a fight and for some reason it didn't power back up when it got repaired. So everyone except my Voltan who had no skills and a human who had mastered shield regen died due to no oxygen.
When I finally figured it out and got the oxygen back up, the very next jump I made I lost my Voltan to a plague. So my only crew member was my shield dude, who had to run to the bridge to jump and then run back to the shield room so he could recharge the shields.
I did this for 2 full sectors, using an anti-personal drone and a repair drone to keep the ship safe. When I finally got to the last sector, I had upgraded my ship as much as I could with my limited power and went to fight the mothership. I ripped through the first part of it without much damage taken, but dear God the drones in the second part. Those like 8 drone swarms are ridiculous.
What the heck.

My ship just got ripped apart by this auto ship and its beam drone after it completely disabled my shield with a virus. And this happened in the FIRST SECTOR.
If FTL is fair, nitrogen is highly toxic.

Then why are both your pilot and shield specialist 2-stars?

He could have hung around against some piece of shit ship and racked up the experience. It's definitely possible to get those max rank in the first sector but I have to admit I've never once bothered to try it.

Does the Rebel not advance while you're in battle? Or does it only move each time you jump?
Does the Rebel not advance while you're in battle? Or does it only move each time you jump?
Each time you jump essentially, with some varying factors based off of certain encounters and the nebula clouds that delay the rebel fleet.
Cheat Engine's speedhack feature saves loads of time when you crank it the whole way up while power-leveling on wimpy enemy ships. :v:
This is the whole entire reason I installed CE, btw.
This game is tough as nails. I'm playing on easy and I still suck :v:
It's fun though

Anyone got any suggestions? About the only thing I can do that I can see is sacrifice somebody to blow up this part of the flagship. They defend their shield generator rabidly, but the sensors I can get if I distract them - which takes out a hull point, which they then repair so I can repeatedly do it. The problem is, they heal up in their med-bay too quick. Obviously I can't take that out, what with it being a med-bay, but I can't pierce their shields with just my laser. On the other hand, they literally can't get past 1 of my shields.
I sacrificed my Voltan to take down the ship, then got destroyed on the next section. I unlocked the the other configuration for the ship though, so I used that and managed to barely destroy the 3rd form. With my Rockman still on the ship trying to destroy their missile turret. Whoops.
I failed to kill the boss with the default ship twice, then pulled out that ion/drone based one and beat the hell out of it/everything else. Two ion mk2's meant nothing could even shoot back.
I want some new content or a sequel of some kind.
Didn't the developers said they were going to consider opening the game up for modding post-release? Has anything come of that yet?
Damn... I was getting pretty close to upgrading my kretzel or whatever the first ship is called completely. I just got the achievement for getting 6 different crewmembers, but the achievement for surviving with 1 hp feels a bit too random to rely on.
I want some new content or a sequel of some kind.
Agreed. I love this game, I don't regret the purchase, but theres no enough variety in gameplay to keep me playing.
This thread still goes?
Aye. I do want some more content. It's not right that they'd release a game with such little content. a few hours or so and they could have at least doubled the amount of scenarios/options or designed more ships/weapons/types of crew.
